2024-25 NBA Thread: Finals court designs NBA ordered off Temu finally came in (41 Viewers)

While we’re waiting a week and a half for the next finals game, figured I’d get some input on the next nba draft type thing that I can run.

I’ve got two options for an all-time nba draft /ranking.

A - an all-time draft where we make different teams for each decade/era as well as an all-time team. Similar to what we did a couple years ago, but with a slight twist.

B - a consensus player ranking (like what’s been done for TV, books, Pink Floyd songs, albums, etc) where everyone submits their top 50-70 lists and I reveal the consensus rankings and we all make fun of each others lists. This one might be easier to do during the summer months.

I’ll try to also do something for just the 25-26 season later in the fall before the season starts if work doesn’t kick my butt again.

B sounds easier for everyone and will probably have more participants

Either but always prefer drafts.

That was my thought too.

You had me, finally, at "we all make fun of each others lists."

Signal quality is gaining in strength on the rumor of KD to the Spurs. I'm generally in favor, but have concerns over possible extension terms. And meanwhile, I think Wemby is attending a 10-day silent retreat at a Shaolin monk temple in China.

Curious to see how the three guard rotation of Fox-Castle-Harper will evolve too. Having two out of three of these guys on the floor at all times, theoretically, is probably going to overwhelm teams with weak benches. ...I should probably reel back discussion of Harper to the Spurs, as it's not a lock that Nico Harrison will select Cooper Flagg with the #1. I mean, stranger things have happened, right?

I have a good feeling about 2025/26.

They should flip Fox and some assets to the Bucks for Giannis. Giannis and Wemby would be so much fun to watch. Put somebody at PG who can shoot better than Fox for spacing.

There's a lot of concern about fit with Fox-Castle-Harper, but I want to wait and see what develops. It might be a Toy Story island of misfit toys, or it could develop into a glorious freak show, the likes of which we have never seen.

Fox is about the age where John Wall started precipitously falling off (when a speed-only guy loses 1/4 of a step, it's over), and Wemby is always going to be a walking injury risk given his size and play style. The window isn't as open with this group as Spurs fans will want to think; they should strike while they have the opportunity.

I'm hoping for more of a Tony Parker-like career trajectory (top-12 in MVP voting 5 out of 6 seasons after turning 28). It could happen.

Love how the Knicks had no real plans in place when they fired Thibs. They reportedly asked permission to talk to Udoka (Hou) and Finch (Min) and were rejected by both teams. Also love how the Mavs haven’t done the same thing with Kidd.

I guess Knicks haven’t asked Mavs about Kidd yet. I’m guessing all those rumors were just Kidd trying to get a big raise/extension.

What the heck? Why would Houston let them talk to Udoka? He's been there 2 years and massively exceeded expectations. That's comical to even ask.

Sounds like you're not familiar with James Dolan

Why does the NBA spread these games out so far even when no travel is involved?

They really know how to kill momentum.
It really is awful. And stupid. And dumb.
I have to assume it has something to do with international viewing or social media or something. I’m sure they have some formula for how to best monetize it. Actual American tv ratings do not seem to be a huge driver of the nba’s decisions and they still got a huge amount of money from the networks, who must be seeing the same thing, that broadcasting the games works as shoulder programming to something else lucrative. Would love to know the real details.

Seen a crazy stat today and I am not sure if it is true.

Since 1947 when the finals started only one team has had a former, future or current player play in every single finals.

The Knicks.
You mean that every finals that has ever been played had at least one player who played for the Knicks at some point in their career? Finding the wording of this a little confusing for some reason.

Exactly. They are the only team in the league. I didn't verify it.

Jenkins, ex-Memphis, is just sitting there.

he's a good coach, no? feels like they over-achieved and then cratered with injuries and stupidity.
Supposedly Jenkins and Mike brown are on the radar. Something seems to have been a little off with Jenkins. Not too personable (even by nba coach standards…) and it does seem hard to believe that the grizz would have fired him unless there was some significant disconnect. He got his teams to overachieve a lot of times or least properly achieve for the moat of the rest of the time.

ESPN and The Athletic both had articles about Jenkins and his cold war against the analytics dudes in the front office. Memphis is centered on analytics--they hired John Hollinger away from ESPN awhile back to build a staff from the ground up.

The front office guys would give Jenkins a detailed gameplan with no room for adjustment and they believed his only job was to get the players to buy into the system. One of the bullet points was getting the ball out of Morant's hands. Not so surprisingly, no one bought into that.

A little more 1st quarter offense than the 1st 2 games. Dort is hitting everything.

Haliburton has passed up some good looks this quarter. I get what he is doing, but passing up a decent short mid range floater/layup for a kick out hasn't worked so far.
