2024-25 NBA Thread: Big weekend for Halliburtons (157 Viewers)

Isn't a bad calf strain what caused Durant to rupture his achilles his last year with the Warriors?

I understand this is the finals, but if they medical team is saying he has a high risk of that happening then the team and doctors need to protect him from himself.

The Inside Story, which appears to be a 4-part series on the Inside the NBA cast, one episode for each member of the show, is pretty great.

TruTV, if you haven't seen it

Any good articles or stories on them?
I recall from ESPN: The Magazine a story about Jerry wanting to turn over the franchise to his sons but there was the sense that they were both "Fredo's", and conversely Jeannie was really and deeply intelligent. Jerry said that she was everything he wished his sons were.

And of course, Jeannie was dating Phil Jackson, and Kobe thought of her as "a big sister". That gave her quite a bit of leverage against her brothers.

And Jeanie fired one of her brothers who was originally at the same level she was (but Jerry gave her the final say on everything).

Interesting - from Windhorst on the latest Hoop Collective podcast. Our very own Manchester City.

“In late April, TWG Global announced a $15 billion capital raising effort and they wanted to create a fund that they would use to invest in sports. $10 billion of that money was invested by Mubadala Capital. Mubadala is Abu Dhabi. You guys have heard me talk about Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi’s deep interest in investing in the NBA and American sport. Mubadala Capital wouldn’t be able to directly buy the Lakers but certainly they couldninvest in something to buy the Lakers. TWG Global has a lot of investors. I’m not saying one piece of money goes to one investment… In their press release from two months ago, they said that they planneed to “build up sizable stakes in a range of sports assets in the years leading up to this investment.” So, they announced a $15 billion raise with $10 billion from Abu Dhabi to invest in sports assets. Two months later, they buy the Lakers for $10 billion. I’m just pointing that out.”

If I didn't hate American billionaires as much as I do, I would say this is deeply problematic.

Wow - huge news.

The Buss family are selling the Lakers to Mark Walter (TWG Global).

That came out of nowhere.
The Buss children make the siblings in "Succession" look like "The Waltons".
Didn’t even realize there was another one than Jeannie. Any good articles or stories on them?
Did you not watch the HBO show?
Season 1, loved it but haven’t got to 2 yet since I heard it got cancelled. Don’t recall the sons in season 1, but since my post I remember the story about Jeannie firing one of them and how I thought that was odd.
