2024-25 NBA Thread: Finals court designs NBA ordered off Temu finally came in (148 Viewers)

Mark Cuban, Shaq and Bronny's dad want to own an NBA team together. I know one for sale if somebody wants to get word to them for me.

TIA.
Did Cuban sell all of his interest in the Mavericks? I don't think he did, but would imagine he would have to,
I believe he still owns 27% of the team.

Correct, he would have to sell the remaining 27% before buying another team in the NBA.

But he wants to. And there's one for sale. And he likes the PNW. And its weed.

boston favored by 4.5 tonite. they have been favored the first 4 games on spreads between 6.5-9.5. i’m a homer, but i can’t see boston covering. i won’t say i can’t see them winning, well maybe i will. i just don’t know how they replace tatum and not sure psychologically where they are. who takes tatum’s 40 minutes and 20-25 shots? KP looks corpsey. maybe PP?
Paul Pierce?

Unfortunately for BOS, Brown has had a net rating of -15 and KP a net rating of -13 in the Knicks series so far. Brown hasn't looked the same as he did last playoffs and Porzingis is struggling to play with his mystery illness that won't go away. They should probably try to get more minutes for Kornet (+46 net rating), Pritchard (+16), and Horford (+15). Tatum had a good game going last game, but he wasn't very efficient the other games (-4 net rating overall). They will probably have to use Hauser to give the other guys some rest.

I absolutely love Cuban.

But about 36 months ago, he sold out his "beloved" Mavs to the POS Adelson family.

It was either for the payday, or "he didn't want his kids to feel the pressure".

Whatever the reason, if he'd sell his own Mavs down the river, why do you want him buying a team you love?

the guy did revive a moribund franchise that was more or less a laughingstock of sports. he gave Dallas life again.

were the Bucks in position to sell (please, yes) i'd be thrilled to see Cuban buy them.

Furls nailed it.

I remember the Mavs before Cuban bought them. They were a mess. The Ross Perot Jr. era was a hapless period of attrition that saw many moves but never any sustained success. Cuban comes in and did he fire the coach right away? No, he trusted his acumen and experience and his patience was rewarded.

In an era where NBA owners liked to stay in the shadows, this guy was at games sitting with fans, traveling to games, changing the culture of the team. It was refreshing!

So he made a business decision to sell and sell at a gigantic protfit. Sometimes you know when to walk away and who knows, maybe he had other reasons for selling than making a 3 BILLION dollar profit on his investment.....maybe Cuban hates the state of Texas and its politics and knows he doesn't belong there? Lord knows I couldn't wait to leave that idiocracy.

As for Portland, the list of local candidates to buy the team is short and the best option - Uncle Phil - has said NO. So the buyer will be an outsider, most likely. I could see Cuban partnering up with Shaq and LeBron (he has said as much) and buying an existing franchise vs being the ownership group of an expansion team. Cuban also won't want to pay the expansion fees that come with a new team.

Plus.....Nike is here and LeBron has a lifetime deal with the shoe company.

This isn't the dumbest idea I've ever had.

He ones them for over 20 years and turned that franchise into a consistent winner. This wasn't some pump and dump.

Is there any local talk at all of the franchise moving?

Maybe we can jump on a conference call with Cubes tomorrow? He could help us get to that second comma.

No, though that is the major worry of 978,145 goofy looking hippies who are terrified of being Seattle 2.0 and losing their beloved team to Omaha or Little Rock.

I *THINK* the NBA learned their lesson in the Super Sonics debacle. That was a terrible look for the association. They don't want that happening again.

With Seattle and Las Vegas getting new teams through expansion, I think Portland is fairly safe from relocation as those would make the most sense geographically.

But, the new owner will have to commit to a new arena and this city is impossible to work with. And, as I said earlier, outside of Phil Knight, the list of billionaires who live here is short. Very short.

So.....I dunno man. I worry it could happen but I think it would be a very sad day in sports if it did. The city loves its team. It's all we really have. There's steep hisotry here. Many Blazer players choose to live here after they retire. It's a special place. It's a WEIRD place. But it's also a beautiful place and the relationship between city and team has been a wonderful one since it got here.

I lived in Vancouver, Washington off and on during the 70s, including that championship season

Then some decades in Seattle (including their championship season), before the debacle happened.

I want the cities to keep their teams

Seattle and its powers-that-be, like Portland sounds to be, are very, very incompetent

He did.

And then he sold them to someone he knew who would be terrible.

I'd gladly vote for Mark Cuban to be President. Love the guy.

But he hung a fan base high and dry. And he was smart enough to know he was doing it.

Whatever reason he did it I think was probably good for humanity.

But certainly not good for his beloved Mavs.

Not a pump and dump at all One of the greatest owners ever.

It would be great if he still was an owner.

But he's not.

There are a number of different reasons why that could be and why he sold it to an obviously terrible ownership group.

I don't know why, but he did.

How many people were approaching him with a giant check at the time?

Guy made a business decision. He's not married to the franchise the way Jerry Jones is. I'd take Cuban every day of the week and twice on Sunday over 99.99% of sports' owners out there.

Loyalty died a LONG time ago.

And does 20 years of great ownership really erase selling to bad ownership?

If Joe Lacob sold the Warriors to Donald Sterling (or insert whatever horrible new owner you want to put in), that sort of takes some of the shine off all the wonderful things Lacob did.

Certainly makes it harder to trust him going forward if he wants to buy a new team (which would be ridiculous cuz you just owned one and let It go)

I agree. He's awesome.

Like I said I'd love him be the next president. If the money he made off the sale of the team helps make drugs a little cheaper for Americans I think screw Mavs fans, that's awesome.

Or whatever he used the money for it's awesome I trust him to do great things with it..

Good half of ball. Celtics putting up a fight as I expected they would. I think Knicks got a little complacent for a bit there in 2nd quarter.

Cuban is one of the five greatest sports owners ever. Weird that people have takes that not only isn't he top five (or maybe ten), but think he was bad? Lol.
