2024-25 NBA Thread: Game 7!! (157 Viewers)

And I think @Instinctive is trying to say that it’s not just that the Luka trade was a bad basketball decision that turned him off, it was how they did it and how they treated Luka and the fan base in the process. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong).
Nope, thats it. Written like someone who read the post vs assuming thy knew what it said. But then, youve always been (well) above the bare minimum level of thoughtful :)

Ok so I tried rooting for the Thunder through the WCF and just couldn't get into it. So I guess we'll try the Spurs when next season starts and then either abandon it altogether or crawl back to the Mavs and just hate our moronic new ownership until I'm too dead inside to remember.
Stop complaining about the trade and move on. Teams make awful trades all the time and you got to luck into the first pick.
While I understand the sentiment, I would posit that nobody has ever made a trade like this before. Even Kareem had already won a title at least, and it's not like the city loved him. More importantly, the reprehensible behavior and treatment of the traded player during and after the deal is something I have never seen, nor heard of, before. I am strengthened in this claim when anyone I respect on basketball knowledge seems to feel the same way, even the hated historian of basketball Bill Simmons didn't have a worse one.

And you obviously don't understand the emotional connection to the city and with Dirk. But that's ok - fortunately, I didn't ask you! (or any other randomly-show-up-only-for-the-playoffs folks) I think some people, especially those who may consider me at least a FBG friend, may care about the journey. For others, you can scroll by or even use the ignore feature.
It wasn’t even the worst Luka related decision a team has made, give me a break.
Man it's like I type into the void. Who is claiming the decision was bad? Have I said "ew it was a bad decision?" Lol

You don't have to respond if you don't want to.

Don't worry, it's like that in this thread. I posted that Anthony Edwards isn't Michael Jordan and there was a huge argument about semantics even though everyone agreed with me. 😉

As per the Luka trade, I think both teams are happy with where they ended up. Luck, rigged, or otherwise.
I think the “semantics” you mention was your previous iteration/alias posting a bunch of incorrect information from Chat GPT.

I forgot about that part. That part I'm on board with, lol. That was a fun, funny, and friendly conversation.

I guess the part I'm complaining about was when I was told that Jordan didn't win his first ring until he was 28 which was somehow supposed to invalidate my statement. But the guy who mentioned that seems like some kind of player hater, so meh!! 😁
You picked the Kicks...

Paradigm shift and all

Are you suggesting that you picked the entire playoffs 100% correct? Would love to see your perfect bracket.
I don't do 'hot' bad takes

That's your lane

Sorry, Em

That was the old Eminence. This one is better.

They are going to trade KAT or Bridges (sign and trade) for less than they paid.

KAT will be impossible to move in this economy.
Only team I could see pulling the trigger for KAT is the Suns (for Durant). He’s best friends with Booker.

I'm not the king of the mortgages or anything but it would probably be advisable for the Suns to dip below the tax line sooner than later.

With the Thibs news, every winner of the coach of the year from 2018-2023 has been subsequently fired.

The guy who won in 2016 is still with his team. Probably because he's the best coach in all of sports.

Only in the NBA season, in the Olympics he is a Van Gundy.

Kind of BS that the Olympic coaches in basketball don't also win a gold medal. Kerr would look so good with one of those around his neck to compliment all his championship rings.

I’ll root for the Pacers but OKC just looks so good.
Same, especially since I'll be in Indy for Game 1 this Thursday. Still trying to figure out if there'll be a "watch party" somewhere in downtown Indy. I'm sure there will be. I'm staying downtown and even if there isn't a watch party, I'm sure the bars down there will be hype. Should be a blast!
Ugh, looks like the **Official** Watch Party is at Gainbridge Field House. Tickets are only $5 through Ticketmaster but I don't think I want to be cooped up in the arena. I think they may have opted for this route because there are thunderstorms predicted for Thursday through the weekend.

I think I'll just go find a fun bar downtown. They have a Tom's Watch Bar there, and I've been to the one in downtown LA and it's awesome.

Knicks are going to do something really stupid in the next 6 weeks. Can’t wait.
Isaiah Thomas enters the chat
Was he ever affiliated with the Knicks?
Yes, I have tried to forget the era but the awfulness is burned into my memory.
Are you sure???

It was not pretty (talking below about Isiah not Isaiah , two different players)

* Hired as a President of Basketball Operations
* Made a poor trade to get Eddie Curry which caused him to lose out on draft picks Lamarcus Aldridge and Joakim Noah
* Sued for sexual harassment of a Knicks employee after he fired said employee
* Case was settled for $11.5m
* Thomas was then installed as head coach by the brainless James Dolan who demanded evident progress
* After showing very little if any "progress" Thomas was then signed to a multi year extension by Dolan after which his team nose dived out of the playoffs
* After another year of dismal play, he was replaced as coach after registering a .341 winning percentage as coach.
* While still on the payroll as a "consultant", he was barred from ever talking to any of the players for fear he would undermine the new coach

Didn't think of this one and definitely possible as they're reportedly prioritizing getting a center. I think the Suns are all in on getting some of their draft capital back from the Rockets

I hope the Knicks don't hire Thomas. He isn't a good coach, he wasn't good in the front office and he is a scumbag as a human being.

The NBA is better when the Knicks are relevant. Please don't ruin it Dolan.

No, contary to popular belief, he didn't ever actually win Coach of the Year but he was Executive of the Year last season.

But unlike Kerr, has no rings as a player, coach nor a gold medal. Keep trying, Sparky.

The only coach who will sign up for the James Dolan experience will be one who needs a rebirth or a lifeline back to NBA relevance. He's a petty, thin-skin little man who isn't going to be able to pull a big name.

He also wasn't handed a 50 win team and the greatest shooter of all time out the gate and then gifted KD to cake walk to 2 championships while blowing a 3rd.

Nor did he luck into playing in the NBA with 2 of the greatest modern dynasties and handed 5 rings as a player so he could skip earning his way up the coaching ladder through the college ranks by taking a mid-major to back to back NCAA Finals.

Brad Stevens is a basketball genius. The other guy is just lucky.

Sure, he took on a team controlled by Danny Ainge and did.....OK, I guess? No rings as a coach, no rings as a player, inherited a team Ainge built and had to hand it over to a real coach to get a ring.

Your emperor has very little clothing. Mine is covered up in rings and medals.

Nope. Just hard work, making something out of nothing and knocking on the door for several years with a bunch of misfit toys.

Tell me again, how many coaches have lost an NBA Finals after being up 3-1?
