2024-25 NBA Thread: OKC - Memphis series moved to Quibi (8 Viewers)

Wow, Bucks signed Gary Trent Jr for one year at the minimum. Another great minimum deal signing for them.
Milwaukee 3 vet min signings:
Gary Trent Jr
Delon Wright
Taurean Prince

That's about as good as a team could realistically be expected to do in vet min level free agency. Also makes the upside draft selections of AJ Johnson & Tyler Smith a lot more palatable.
That is good. All 3 are worthy of decent NBA minutes and can play a role in the postseason.

Surprised nobody has signed Tyus yet. He’s a great second unit PG with the ability to hold down the fort as a starter if needed.
I assume it is because he is still waiting for starter money and/or starter minutes. I bet he ends up back in Washington on a two year contract with a third year team option for something like $18m a year.

It would be nice if Denver could get some players like that. Instead they are throwing away two roster spots on Hunter Tyson (who at least has an NBA skill of shooting) and Jalen Pickett (who has no NBA skills). Plus they continue to have the highest paid assistant coach in the league taking up a roster spot in DeAndre Jordan - which I wouldn't mind so much if they could spend a couple roster spots on NBA players elsewhere. Plus Holmes is out for the year - that is 4 roster spots on players who can't/shouldn't play.

I always like Delon Wright...but there's something missing. And all the short stints team after team makes me feel like all the teams think the same thing.

Finishing around the rim is such an underrated skill that we take for granted in the nba. These dudes in summer league can do all kinds of **** to get to the basket and then cant make a shot from 2 feet away

Hollinger has a really good article on The Athletic about Team USA and their adjustment to FIBA. He also doesn’t really see it for Embiid - I think AD needs to start. It’s a good read, I’ll post it here when I’m not on my phone.

Good article.

I like the US second team better for the FIBA game more than the starters.

Starters - Curry, Jrue, Tatum, LeBron, Embiid

2nd unit - Hali, Edwards, Booker, Bam, AD

I bet AD ends up starting by the time we get to the knockout round, and assuming Durant is good to go I think he’s in there for Tatum.

I’d put Edwards in for LeBron too.

Curry, Jrue, Edwards, Durant, AD
Well we all know there is a zero percent chance of LeBron not starting. Edwards is an incredible player but I like Booker more for the shooting in FIBA
Plus, LeBron’s been the most consistent starter so far (consistently good - Embiid has been consistent too just not good).

The Bucks basically replaced Beverley, Crowder, and Beasley with Wright, Prince, and Trent Jr.

I suppose that’s a slight upgrade but still nothing to get excited about.

Crowder and Beverley aren't NBA players at this point. Beasley and Trent Jr are probably a wash. Prince is a good 10th man type and Delon Wright is a legit backup guard. I think it's a big improvement for a team that only had like 6 NBA players last year.

Uh oh, you’re all in trouble. Bronny had a good game and hit a couple threes (including a big one down the stretch). The A blocks on First Take and Get Up and Undisputed are all set for tomorrow.

Plus, I just found out the nickname for the next great Laker big, Colin Castleton, is “White Castle”!!

Some say the Lakers summer league players aren’t ready for the league. I say the league isn’t ready for the. . .

Sorry, couldn’t do it. Even after the historic first win of the summer by the Lakers.

Westbrook traded to the Jazz who are going to buy him out then the Nuggets are going to sign him (presumably on a one-year minimum deal).

I've been low on Westbrook for a long, long time (pre-Chris Paul trade), but I think the Nuggets could be a great fit for him if he can continue to humble himself some more. The last couple years with the Clips he was still mostly the same player he ever was offensively from an ego standpoint, still thinking he was MVP Russ, but defensively he was much more locked in. The idea (granted, this is completely unfounded and pretty unlikely) of him being a 20 mpg player that focuses only on what he still excels at, fitting into that Bruce Brown role from two seasons ago (pace, swagger, a little bit of D, and a secondary ball handler), makes this intriguing to me. If it doesn't work, they can trade him at the deadline with what I think is their last second rounder and he can go play in Greece or something. Low risk, moderate reward play.

I see we are on to the bargaining stages, GBKev

Shooting problem solved.

That's fair. :crying:

Jazz just love trading for Westbrook and immediately waiving him.

Don’t the Hornets keep doing that with Reggie Jackson too?

They need to put some respect on the Rockets name. Putting the sorry *** Clippers above them is a joke. While I don't see them improving their win total by that much in the West, this team is going to be an OKC type problem in 2025-6.
Who’s their superstar?

Sengun is up there but it's really a core of 8 solid contributors with a lot of upside - Alpe, Amen, Jabari, Jalen, Cam, Tari, Sheppard and FVV guiding them.

Idk man that seems like a perpetual 10 seed to me.

I like a ton of their players, but not having a true superstar is gunna limit their upside IMO. Maybe they can make a trade, maybe someone will make a big jump, but hard to compare them to OKC when they don’t have a Shai.

It could be a bit higher than that as constituted. If they could bring in a bonafide superstar in their prime then they'd be a title threat.

I hear you that's why I think it's either 25 or 26 when they make that jump and a few of the guys come into their own. I'm not convinced Jalen Green will ever be that guy even though he has shown flashes. Probably best to package him and picks for a stud because I'd hate to pay him Franz Wagner money.

Yeah? Well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man.
