2024-25 NBA Thread: “the sun will still come up tomorrow”, Bucks fan says in city that hasn’t seen the sun since September (21 Viewers)

Really need the Clippers to fall out of the 6th seed, don't wanna waste a first round series on them.

I expect the Warriors or Twolves or maybe both to pass them.
Don't think progress in that direction will be made tonight. The Lakers are pretty banged up, I don't know that they'll pose much of a challenge for the Clippers - particularly given Luka's current shooting difficulties, if he even plays.
Nailed it.
With Rui out and Reaves hurt early, the Lakers bench was huge in this one. The two 2-way guys played awesome tonight - Trey Jemison was +19 in 22 minutes and Jordan Goodwin was +14 in 21 minutes. Lakers need to cut Reddish and sign Goodwin to a full contract. Love that guy.

I also think they should dump Len and sign Jemmison or Koloko so they can be on the playoff roster.

Oh, and on Friday, this team Portland is abusing in Cleveland beat Boston in their gym.

This is incredible. Portland wasn't supposed to win more than 22 games and now they're toying with the league's best. This is just stupendous!

Is it weird that I want the Pistons to stay 6th? I don't think they win a first round series, but I like their chances against the Knicks much better than the Bucks or Pacers.

Best team in the NBA down 12 to Portland at the half in their home gym. Ya'll, we are watching the next dynasty emerge in real time. What a great time to be alive in Oregon.
:<_<:

They have the best record in the NBA.

I was curious how often the team with the best record in the regular season won the NBA Championship, so I googled and found this:

Of the 78 championships, 35 of them were won by the teams who had or tied for the best regular season record.

It is even crazier when you take the top 3 teams from each conference. It is like all but 3 or 4 teams ever.

The other almost universal measuring stick was winning 40 games before losing 20. Only 4 teams in league history have beaten that trend . . . meaning 95% of seasons the eventual champion won 40 games before losing 20. This year, only CLE, OKC, and BOS qualified.

Well, it didn't go the Blazers' way in the end, but it is official:

This team is dangerous.
The Cavs have not played well on Mitchell rest days. Trailed late in 2 of the 4, other 2 were close, and none were against good teams. Scheduling purposes, makes sense, right before Boston rd 1, night after OKC win, night after Boston rd 3, and 2 nights after Boston rd 4. Just re emphasizing the obvious I guess, this team is sunk without him.

Cleveland is impressive even without Mitchell. That Hunter pick-up was huge.

Portland is going to have to learn how to close out tight games, but that's a LONG term goal. I think they're ahead of schedule on the rebuild - Avdija has been a godsend. Camara might be one of the better defensive players in the NBA right now. Think he leads the league in Charges taken (is that a thing?).

Fun game for a boring Sunday afternoon. Hope the Cavs win the east. They're a fun team to root for and their fans aren't obnoxious.

Updating my notes on Boston. They've only played 18 games with all of their starting five, going 13-5 (.722). The most consecutive games they've been able to roll out their full starting lineup has been 5 games. They've also played 18 games missing 2 starters, also going 13-5. I can't tell if they are using an abundance of caution for some of the DNPs, if they are load management days, or how hurt the players have been. Brown mentioned his knee is still banged up since before the ASG. Holiday has mallet finger on one of his pinkies. Not really sure what that is, how it gets better, and how long he'll be out (although some places have said it could take 4-8 weeks).

Haven't watched a game, of any team, since the deal. Just no desire. Not even some principled boycott or something. Just...not interested I guess. Probably won't renew.

ETA: I don't really have time or desire to go through everything, but I am of the opinion that the Vegas thing is a crackpot theory that's absolutely idiotic.

Realistic 1st round match-ups I'd pick to see if I could control it:

East

(1)Cle vs. (8)Atl - Playoff Trae Young is usually pretty fun. Almost picked Orlando, but their offense is too gross now for me to really care.

(2)Bos vs. (7)Mia - Maybe muted now somewhat since Jimmy is gone, but Spoelstra should at least make them somewhat feisty.

(3)NYK vs (6)Ind - Seems like there's some bad blood there from last years playoffs.

(4)Mil vs (5)Det - Old guard vs the new guard? Mostly I just wanted to see NYK/Ind so this is what has to happen. The Kuzma/Tobias match-up could be one for the ages.

West

(1)OKC vs (8)Dal - Wanna see Nico Harrison and the Mavs get booed off the court for 2 games.

(2)Den vs (7)Min - Rematch of maybe the best series in last years playoffs.

(3)LAL vs (6)GS - Lebron/Luka vs Steph/Jimmy??? :moneybag:

(4)Mem vs (5)Hou - There already seems to be a ton of bad blood there.

I like your predictions. Some of those series would be super fun to watch. I haven’t looked too close at the standings and remaining schedules—but the one thing that I would maybe disagree with at first look would be Dallas even getting past the play in tourney if Kyrie were forced to miss any sort of decent time. I’m not sure they could get past the Kings (assuming the Sabonis comes back before the play in), or the clippers.

I flipped over to WFAA to check it out................it was like watching games during covid. Absolutely no energy. I lasted about 10 minutes. Even Followill and Skin seem to have no energy.

Kyrie with a torn ACL. Oof.
Ouch.

I genuinely feel badly for Mavericks fans.
Me too...but then I realized that this is just bad karma for them deliberately throwing the last game of the season in 2023
That was a brilliant move in order to keep their pick. Every team in the league should do **** like that if it means keeping the #10 pick
Agreed. I think it's near-criminal that the league allowed it and only fined them $750K, but can't really fault the strategy of doing it.

Teams intentionally tank for entire seasons. I have no issue with a team tanking one game to improve their draft standing

Both are awful for the sport but it's way easier to punish and discourage the latter, so I'm in favor of it.

If that is true then karma has started the process of taking the 76ers back to the days of the peach basket.

If you put peaches in the baskets, Embiid might actually play again.
