2024 RB Lotto Ticket Rankings (1 Viewer)

Full PPR, start 2 RB and 1 Flex. My RBs are:
Jonathan Taylor
James Conner
Raheem Mostert
Jordan Mason

Debating dropping Mason for Jaylen Wright. Mason needs CMC to get hurt to benefit, but either Achane or Mostert injury helps Wright. And Wright is barely slower than Achane while being much bigger (and hopefully more durable as a result).

I also have 3 IR spots, filled with Jonathan Brooks, Kendre Miller and Keaton Mitchell. I'm not that optimistic about Keaton so if any of my regulars at any position need to grab an IR spot Keaton would be the first to go.

Did people watch Allgeier play football the last two years? Just me?
I felt better about him two years ago.

I think I would try to trade Mason first, before just releasing him. Wright would be a good handcuff. Mason only needs CMC to get hurt to get full time duty, where if Mostert gets hurt, Wright still is only in a time share.

Shhhhhhh!

Need his default rankings to stay right where they are.

Team reporter Kelsey Russo said RB Jerome Ford “is poised to have another strong season in the featured back role.”
The report helpfully affirms prior fantasy market assumptions about Ford’s likely role. The Browns’ Weeks 1-4 schedule includes the Cowboys, Jaguars, Giants and Raiders. Ford’s access to high-volume touch counts helps keep him RB2/3-viable against these stacked defensive fronts. Russo also lists veteran D’Onta Foreman in the No. 2 running back spot, having "[demonstrated during] his two preseason games how he can catch out of the backfield and be utilized as a power back, having success in short yardage situations.”

Well I picked up Mason on waivers, so everybody already had a chance to draft him. Probably have to wait a week or two before anybody would be interested.

@themeistersinger

If I were in your shoes, I'd absolutely find something, almost anything, to drop, to acquire JWright, you being a Mostert holder. I'm of the opinion that the Mostert/JWright pairing is one of the best roster-building moves available.

...but that 'something, almost anything' wouldn't be Mason, especially if your waivers is simple drop/add, vs FAAB, where someone has to give something of value to acquire him.

Maybe, only one condition: If you are in a League Of Savvy Managers, which uses FAAB waivers, and who's managers know the value of Mason, and will spend FAAB to acquire him...there's this concept known as 'dropping a FAAB grenade', where you drop a valuable Player into the bidding pool, early in the Season, while everyone is flush with cash, hoping someone blows a massive amount of their budget to acquire him.

Sure, they get the valuable Player, but they're severely handicapped the rest of the way, for blind bidding.

Otherwise, stash that dude. He has some standalone value, but IMHO, he's one of the single biggest penny stocks (in your case, having been picked up on waivers), that could absolutely *BOOM*, with an injury to CMC.

I respectfully disagree with the Justice Hill stance.

1. He's free. You can get him like round 15+ in a lot of drafts.

2. Harbaugh says they view him as a starter. Obviously, he's not starting over Henry. But I think he realistically has a role that involves touching the football on a regular basis. At 30, I don't think they want Henry carrying the ball 300+ times per game. They want him healthy for the playoffs. The Ravens have done well despite several RB injuries the past few seasons. They're likely a playoff team in spite of who they use at RB. There's a reasonable chance Hill (who you can draft for free) touches the ball on a regular basis for a top offense.

3. Did I mention Henry's 30? There's a chance any 30 year old RB misses time due to injury. Hill instantly becomes the back to own if something happens to Henry.

If your bench is deep enough, this is a guy I love drafting to see what happens.

Thanks, appreciate the analysis. We do use FAAB, but week 1, 25% (250 / 1000) of FAAB would be a big splash in my league. That was the highest bid in week 1 last year, for RB Joshua Kelley from the Aaron Rodgers manager. Second highest winning bid was 77/1000 for Kendrick Bourne, I got Kyren Williams for 55/1000 (I like the ROI on that one. I couldn't make up my mind between Kelley and Williams so I bid 55 on both).

We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE and 1 Flex, Also K and DST. 5 bench spots, so there are only 144 skill players rostered, and 19 of those are QB, so you can't "always find a QB on the WW". My current roster is
QB - Caleb WIlliams
QB - Trevor Lawrence
RB - Jonathan Taylor
RB - James Conner
RB - Raheem Mostert
RB - Jordan Mason (picked him up off WW after moving Brooks to an IR spot)
RB - Jonathan Brooks (IR Spot)
RB - Keaton Mitchell (IR Spot - I'm not too optimistic on him but I have the spot for now so might as well use it)
RB - Kendre Miller (IR Spot)
WR - Ja'Marr Chase
WR - Cooper Kupp
WR - Brandon AIyuk
WR - Terry McLaurin
WR - Rome Odunze
WR - Jameson Williams
plus streaming K and DST

Its been weeks since an update and I rehauled the list to include @socrates much welcomed contributions to make this list more complete.
I also bolded some, added their .5 ppr AVG RB rank per Fantasypros and labeled the top #5 RBs you should target in draft.

I also kind of hate that I included some platoon or inherent know starter RBs like D. Montgomery, Jerome Ford, Chase Brown, Zack Moss, Najae Harris, Jaylen Warren, Tyjae Spears, Rico Dowdle, Chubba Hubbard, Jaleel Mclaughlin, JK Dobbins Gus Edwards. They have all since been edited out of the list.

14 in total. Feel free to shout out anyone missed or wanting to endorse. I feel good about who is highlighted enough to at least monitor closely and draft. Maybe I can do this again after 4 weeks into season or if a slew of injuries hit.

I updated for the cuts today. Why not!? Slow day at the office!
I think you should add Samaje Perine to the list, and remove CEH, since he just went on the NFI list

I think you should add Samaje Perine now that CEH is on the NFI list for at least 4 weeks.

Interesting that Perine is the biggest of the KC RBs, since Steele is presumed to be the thumper

Great stuff. And always enjoy these updates. I have Davis and Wright sitting at the end of my bench, and will likely have to cut one before the season kicks off for a kicker. Holding both for now, but both opportunities will be tough to figure. I do own James Cook in the same league, so I guess it will come down to whether I want to own my own handcuff or someone else’s… barring an odd camp/practice injury.
Interested in what you did, big-brained people typically say that its better to cuff other's RBs in this situation, but it is more risky and also more rewarding. In a vaccuum, I would advise holding Wright. He goes higher in drafts and I believe has double the odds for relevancy since Mostert and Achane injury can be the path to relevancy- its like 2 lotto pick rolls in one!

That was my thinking this year. Generally never handcuff my own backs, just pickup guys who have a path to relevancy. Wright has two paths and both those guys have an injury history.

@Hartliner

I can't remember how we did this previous years....are you going to use Post #1 as a summary? I guess not since it's not been edited since August 4.

It's probably a lot of work for you, so no worries.

But if you have the time, might be a good place to check the thread (so folks don't have to wade through discussions of one guy's team.)

It's your thread and your time, so do what you will, just offering a suggestion - NBD either way.

Ok I lied, thought I would update every 4 weeks and Its been 1 week since an update. I have a draft tomorrow so was still looking at late rounders who I added and I rehauled the list to include

themeistersinger and FGITLOTR suggestions

Also looks like Trayveon Williams got the Donta Foreman treatment where it was a cut to then resign to do some roster mgmt stuff. As of Tuesday Sept 3rd.

@BobbyLayne I looked at the old threads to see how we did it, and it was a lot like this thread is shaping up where I need to add the update as we go. It might seem dumb, but I don't want to edit my first post to be what the list is now. I like seeing the evolution of the list.

I like the suggestion tho of having current list at top of thread so here are some possible fixes:

1. I could post the current list on top of the old, but that might be confusing for folks?

2. Need Forums to support pin post for creator of thread, I wish I could just pin a post at top of thread. To have best of both worlds.

3. Maybe next year the play is that I double post the initial rankings and then edit the top one? (Hopefully, I remember that detail)

sounds good brother man

in FFA threads where we do various rankings, the OP will often introduce the topic, and then post two more times "reserved" - gives you the flexibility to edit post #2 and/or #3 in the future

I haven’t made a decision yet. I have an empty kicker spot for Sunday, so waiting to see how the week plays out and any other news of involvement.

My RB room is fairly thin after going zero running back strategy. Cook is my RB1 on my team.

Also own Shakir and Coleman… so if I keep Davis, it’s a lot of Buffalo exposure. BUT… the thought of Cook going down while Wright is still just getting minimal touches may lead me to keep Davis as a security blanket. Have some more days to make a decision.

I got Dowdle, G. Edwards, McLaughlin, Estime and Irving. Really just need any one of them to be a playable RB2.
Gibbs is my RB1, so might have to play 2 of the above this week.
14 team league is a lot different than a 12 teamer. Zoinks!!

And FBG consensus rankings has Davis ever so slightly ahead of Wright. They are literally neck and neck, so I'm not really sure that matters, so will just come down to whether or not I want to protect Cook or shoot for more perceived opportunity and upside in Wright. Interestingly, the kicker I want to add is Bass... so my plethora of Buffalo players may continue to grow.

Post Week 1 - I went through the list and these are my Top Three LOTTO RBs (guys you can, for most of us, hopefully, still get for free):

In no order:

DET: Sione Vaki
KCC:Carson Steele
NYJ:Braelon Allen

What are your Top Three?

Based on the latest updates, the following players have a good chance of taking the lead role, at least for a couple of weeks:
  • Z. Charbonnet (SEA)
  • C. Steele (KC)
  • B. Irving (TB)
High-upside handcuffs in case of injuries:
  • B. Allen (NYJ)
  • T. Allgeier (ATL)
Short-term options:
  • Foreman (CLE)

Short-term options:
  • Foreman (CLE)
Did something happen to Ford? I just saw that Foreman had 14 carries and 1 target compared to 7 & 2 for Ford.

Or was this just a product of game script where Cleveland was just trying to control the game?

interesting, I did my slew of podcasts and the idea I heard ranged . Maybe Ford did something that coaching did not like in week 1 or it was instead them trying to preserve Ford for the long term, keep in mind Pierre Strong is dinged up and Foreman getting healthier makes this backfield a bit more dicey. Also considering they won they prolly will keep the rotation in tact which diminishes Ford's value of course.

Some folks got carried away with Ford as a RB1 for week 2, but he is more likely and will continue to be a flex to lowend RB2 most weeks w/o Chubb.

Coach Stefanski thought he would be a genius and run more with a washed RB who also fumbled inside the 5 but luckily recovered it.

I vote Steele, he has the most similar skillset to Pacheco?, but I wouldn't break the bank(15-20% faab) since it could be 3+ headed backfield. Don't forget about CEH. But it could pay off big.

  • KCC:Carson Steele(74)will be the new frontrunner prolly the best pickup for week 3 , but it also most likely will be RBBC. Not worried about K. Hunt, Samaje Perine(UR) 3rd down pass catcher, Clyde Edwards-Helaire
  • LVR: Alexander Mattison(65) asserted themselves but still monitor only, Dylan Laube(78.5)
  • LAC: Kimani Vidal(UR), bumping up since the RBs are older on this team and like Saints the O is doing better than expected
NFC East
  • DAL: Malik Davis? Dalvin Cook (UR) GL upside if Zeke goes down.
  • NYG:Tyrone TracyJr. (54.5)
  • PHI: Kenneth Gainwell(67.5),Will Shipley(68)
  • WAS: Jeremy McNichols?
NFC North
  • CHI: Khalil Herbert added! watched this game and they scored the TD, but Swift looks bad, I think its the OC Shane Waldren, look at Seahawks last year and then look at them this year. OC change affect. Roschon Johnson(63.5)
  • DET: Sione Vaki(UR)
  • GBP:MarShawn Lloyd(51.7)injured again!?, Emmanuel Wilson(UR)
  • MIN:Ty Chandler(48.7)
NFC South
  • ATL:Tyler Allgeier(51) #2 Proven vet that is in prime and it might be still a platoon.
  • CAR:Miles Sanders(76)
  • NO: Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller{IR Bonus}(56) set to return at earliest week 5 but I would say Saint O is good enough to warrant a stash, especially since Kamara is taking on the workload at their age injury risk intensifies.
  • TBB:Bucky Irving(56.5)#5 I think he can take the job w/o injury Sean Tucker(UR)
NFC West
  • ARI: Trey Benson(38.3) Emari Demercado(UR)Michael Carter(UR)
  • LAR:Blake Corum(40) downgraded ranking due to O injuries.
  • SF: 👑Jordan Mason(66) Isaac Guerendo(UR) #3 This has got to be the best system for RBs ever, he's avail in so many leagues94% in yahoo leagues!
  • SEA:👑Zach Charbonnet(46) Short Term Kingmaker, Walker out multiple weeks also good time to sell high if you can. Kenny McIntosh
Notable Free Agents
  • Jerick McKinnon(UR)
  • Kareem Hunt(UR) workout Tuesday for KC, likely incoming
19 in total. Feel free to shout out anyone missed or wanting to endorse. I feel good about who is highlighted enough to at least monitor closely. Maybe I can do this again if a slew of injuries hit.
Great analysis. Question - what do the numbers in parantheses stand for?

Any word on Tank Bigsby's injury? I thought shoulder but post above says concussed?

Not sure if he's worth holding or swapping for another lotto ticket. Eyeing D'Onta Foreman instead.

I'm holding Bigsby in dynasty unless something comes out about this being longer term. Saw a blurb this morning about it not being that serious. Pederson seems to be in his corner. Some chatter about him outplaying Etienne in week 1.

CMC team stubbornly waiting for Bigsby, K. Herbert, D. Pierce, McLaughlin, Spears, or Kendre Miller to be a thing.

Vidal, Miles Sanders, Vaki, Rasheen Ali, and now Roschon on the waiver wire. Would anyone move on from someone in the top group for a player in the bottom? Most interest in Vidal, but also think Sanders is a decent bet to get moved to a functional offense before the deadline (maybe even a small uptick with Dalton).

Not a lot of talk for Marshawn Lloyd (edit - just saw he landed on IR) . I have him and B. Allen as betterhandcuff options for waivers than KC backfield. KC is gonna be a mess to try and guess which one to play any given week.

FYI: MarShawn Lloyd was just put onto IR a few hours ago.

Top 5 KingMakers ranked: 1.Braelon Allen, 2. Tyler Allgeier, 3. Isaac Guerendo, 4. Ray Davis, 5.Bucky Irving

As of Tuesday Sept 17th.

AFC East
  • BUF:Ray Davis(53) #4 3 Down back on a Great Offense
  • MIA:Jaylen Wright(47) pushed out of top 5 KM just cause usage is not there. I wanted to hodl but ended up dropping him, but prolly can talk myself into re-roster but I have sunk cost and a lot of previous excitement that fades with Tua out and the O looking anemic.
  • NEP:Antonio Gibson(48)
  • NYJ:Braelon Allen(55.5) #1 Flashed the skills, get em! especially if you have Hall
AFC North
  • BAL: Keaton Mitchell(73.5){IR Bonus}Justice Hill(71.5)
  • CIN:Trayveon Williams(UR)
  • CLE:Donta Foreman Pierre Strong
  • PIT: Cordarrelle Patterson(UR) more run this week, however prolly can just monitor.
AFC South
  • HOU: Cam Akers flopped mostly last week, but it's another week spot starter, Dameon Pierce (59.3){Trade looming?}
  • IND: Trey Sermon(ADP: 77.5)
  • JAC: Tank Bigsby(65.5) shoulder, but prolly fine to be back in line up, saw he was dropped.
  • TEN: Julius Chestnut(UR)
AFC West
  • DEN:Audric Estime(65){IR Bonus} but this O looks bad, maybe later in the season, but if you have IR might as well stash.Tyler Badie
  • KCC:Carson Steele(74)Needs to step up week 4 to cement role, but it also most likely will be RBBC. Not worried about K. Hunt but should be rostered, Samaje Perine(UR) 3rd down pass catcher, Clyde Edwards-Helaire he looms
  • LVR: Alexander Mattison(65) asserted as the RB pushing Zamir and might not need injury to take job but its the Raiders and it looks like they might be ready to sell the team and tank, Dylan Laube(78.5)
  • LAC: Kimani Vidal(UR), Might be good for later in the season just monitor on speedial
NFC East
  • DAL: Malik Davis? Dalvin Cook (UR) GL upside if Zeke goes down.
  • NYG:Tyrone TracyJr. (54.5)
  • PHI: Kenneth Gainwell(67.5),Will Shipley(68)
  • WAS: Jeremy McNichols?
NFC North
  • CHI: Khalil Herbert wtf. Roschon Johnson(63.5) surprised he got the substantial role last week, I don't trust Bears. I am a Bears fan and they eventually do the right thing but Swift seems like a money pit that they have sunk cost in. OC needs to go.
  • DET: Sione Vaki(UR)
  • GBP:MarShawn Lloyd(51.7)IR Emmanuel Wilson(UR) looked great looks like clear handcuff to own.
  • MIN:Ty Chandler(48.7)
NFC South

Updates in week 4
Trey sermon - possible 1-week rental with JT's injury
Kareem Hunt - the new RB1 in KC?
Bucky Irving is trending upwards
Chase Brown - increasing snap share to 40% snap share

Posted in the Ray Davis thread, but adding here to get the groups thoughts on him + a few of these "high-upside handcuff" guys.

  • Ray Davis - looks to be behind both Cook & Ty Johnson now? Seems to be an afterthought - we still holding?
  • Blake Corum - has literally done nothing all season. IF (when) Kyren gets dinged up, will Corum actually have value or is Ronnie Rivers the next man up now?
  • Jaylen Wright - Miami offense in shambles. He still worth a roster spot?
  • Emanuel Wilson - worth adding (basically free/ still available in lots of league) - touches creeping up at the expense of Jacobs, but bottled up last week.

I would take Wilson over all of the others on your list, at the moment.
