A deadline. What are guys like Grimes waiting for at this point?
A better offer than what they currently haveWhat are guys like Grimes waiting for at this point?
More money. What are guys like Grimes waiting for at this point?
But it isn't really out there now, right?More money. What are guys like Grimes waiting for at this point?
Would the thread title ‘President orders national guard to streets of DC to take over Washington Wizards’ get the thread in trouble?
It might only take one person to report it. 50/50.Would the thread title ‘President orders national guard to streets of DC to take over Washington Wizards’ get the thread in trouble?
An offer isn’t coming from another team. I haven’t read about sign-and-trades for him and those rules are tricky. But the Sixers could offer more. But it isn't really out there now, right?More money. What are guys like Grimes waiting for at this point?
Apparently someone doesn't remember the title of his own thread. Consider this me reporting for duty sir.Great stuff @Kev4029 - can’t even argue with many of those.
Worth it.Would the thread title ‘President orders national guard to streets of DC to take over Washington Wizards’ get the thread in trouble?
Maybe if you worded it in a way that suggested the reasoning for the order was because they thought there were actual wizards that needed to be dealt with.Would the thread title ‘President orders national guard to streets of DC to take over Washington Wizards’ get the thread in trouble?
It’s basically a dance between which side is less interested in the player taking the qualifying offer. It’s not very good for either side , but in some ways worse for the team. The player gets a no trade if they take the qualifying offer and of course becomes a UFA. So that’s the leverage for the player, though they will invariably get less guaranteed money. So will the player or team blink first? An offer isn’t coming from another team. I haven’t read about sign-and-trades for him and those rules are tricky. I don’t think we’ll see anything happen with any of the 4 RFAs until training camp is about to start.

Are there any other teams even interested in Grimes? Are the Sixers going to run out there with 3 guards, George at PF and Embiid at C (assuming all healthy)? Maxey, VJ, McCain, Oubre, Grimes, Lowry, Gordon -- maybe a sign and trade of Grimes now is the move, but not sure how feasible that is?
Philly, GS, Chicago, and Brooklyn just need to do a 4-way swap of their RFA guys - Grimes to GS, Thomas to Phi, Kuminga to Chi, Giddey to Bkn.Are there any other teams even interested in Grimes? The crazy thing is even if they all signed the exact same contract, the trade wouldn’t be allowed due to that base year compensation rule.Philly, GS, Chicago, and Brooklyn just need to do a 4-way swap of their RFA guys - Grimes to GS, Thomas to Phi, Kuminga to Chi, Giddey to Bkn.Are there any other teams even interested in Grimes? I think they can fudge it a bit with TPE's. Yep. Shams is reporting it. $4 billion. Congrats! Not sure if this is verified and legit, but news breaking now that Carolina Hurricanes' owner Thomas Dundon is going to buy the Portland Trailblazers from Paul Allen's estate. Huge if true.

You starting to take after a certain world leader with the errant capitalization? Or is this the team's intended new team name?Yep. Shams is reporting it. $4 billion. Wow.....that's great news. Also hearing he has no plans to move the team, so that's also a relief. He's going to need a new stadium soon, not sure if he'll enjoy working with Portland Politicians.
I saw this from the ESPN article:Yep. Shams is reporting it. $4 billion. Congrats! Not sure if this is verified and legit, but news breaking now that Carolina Hurricanes' owner Thomas Dundon is going to buy the Portland Trailblazers from Paul Allen's estate. Huge if true.

In 2024 the Blazers sold their home arena, the Moda Center, to the City of Portland for $1 and the land under the arena for $7 million. It then launched a public/private partnership to renovate the arena and the surrounding area that included a new lease through 2030.

You don’t think these renovations/changes will be good enough for them to stay in the arena past 2030?
Oh. When I first read there would be renovations to the “surrounding area” I assumed that meant a nice, walkable area for such businesses.Virtually no restaurants, bars, etc right by the stadium, so if you want that, you have to either park and walk and even then, the pickings are rather slim, which isn't great for a city wanting to take advantage of having a pro sports team to help generate business around the arena.

Good luck with the team, GM
Sounds pretty bleak/problematic

Ehhh, I'm glad the team has a new owner. I'd like to believe his group won't move the team. I just worry the city of Portland will be a major source of frustration.
We'll see.

Seattle is getting an expansion team.
Actual rumor is that the NBA might not have the votes for expansion. There is a little bit of uncertainty with the local TV rights across the league and until that entire issue gets resolved, expansion might not happen.Good luck with the team, GM

Yeah apparently expansion could cost some of the other owners money under the current TV rights deal. Owners generally don't like that.Actual rumor is that the NBA might not have the votes for expansion. New expansion teams are Vegas and Vancouver. Portland will move to Seattle and become the Sonics. Djax confirmed it as he overheard a few owners discussing this on the bus this morning.

Towards the end of last season, they finally came to a deal with Comcast (our only cable provider in the Denver-metro area) after something like 4 years of no televised games on cable. Like Chicago, there was also a new ability to stream Avs and Nuggets games for $20/mo.Actual rumor is that the NBA might not have the votes for expansion. From what I gather, the local TV situation is a terrible problem. There had been problems in Denver for years, right? I don’t recall what is happening now.
In Chicago, they never struck a deal with the main cable provider last year. They scrambled to allow it over the air with an antenna but it was a weak signal that many people had problems with. You could also stream games online for $20 a month. This year, it’s on cable but only if you get the most expensive cable package. They are stopping over the air.
The thing that concerns me is if you make it harder and more expensive to watch games, I think it will make it a lot harder to gain fans from the younger generations. There are already tons of other stuff they can entertain themselves with.
I wish the NBA could buy out the small handful of local TV deals that are big money and distribute games without blackouts to everybody on NBA League Pass.
— Matthew 7:6 ... seems to be an appropriate reference.I wish the NBA could buy out the small handful of local TV deals that are big money and distribute games without blackouts to everybody on NBA League Pass.
Absolutely. It's just ridiculous to expect someone to buy League Pass and deal with blackouts. You're buying the pass to avoid that. I often deal with that in Austin being forced to watch that pygmy thing in San Antonio while the Rockets are blacked out![]()
