2025-26 NBA Thread: manager at job site annoyed Kawhi hasn't shown up again (3 Viewers)

the new ownership group has publicly stated they intend to keep the team in portland but nbaradio on serius yesterday was questioning if that was just what they had to say and if theyd try to move the team to nashville i hope they do not portand is a bball town and needs a team just expand to nashville if that is what they want but i view that area more as a college bball area not an nba one take that to the bank brohans

Good luck with the team, GM

Sounds pretty bleak/problematic

Ehhh, I'm glad the team has a new owner. I'd like to believe his group won't move the team. I just worry the city of Portland will be a major source of frustration.

We'll see.

I heard they're moving them to Seattle. Just a rumor though.

Seattle is getting an expansion team.
Actual rumor is that the NBA might not have the votes for expansion. There is a little bit of uncertainty with the local TV rights across the league and until that entire issue gets resolved, expansion might not happen.

From what I gather, the local TV situation is a terrible problem. There had been problems in Denver for years, right? I don’t recall what is happening now.

In Chicago, they never struck a deal with the main cable provider last year. They scrambled to allow it over the air with an antenna but it was a weak signal that many people had problems with. You could also stream games online for $20 a month. This year, it’s on cable but only if you get the most expensive cable package. They are stopping over the air.

The thing that concerns me is if you make it harder and more expensive to watch games, I think it will make it a lot harder to gain fans from the younger generations. There are already tons of other stuff they can entertain themselves with.
The whole Diamond/Bally's thing was bad for a bunch of teams/leagues (for instance MLB runs PadresTV down here which only has Padres games on it...literally a "we'll be back at 6:10 for the next game when they aren't playing). On the National level, the deal is now so huge, that to make up for two new slices for expansion the expansion fee would have to be at least 5 billion plus. Much better to move one of the distressed assets (sorry GM) to Seattle or Vancouver (from the rumors, Vegas seems to be further down the list these days).

And of course, Dundon can always just use the building in Raleigh where he just got 300 million to renovate and is spending a billion dollars over 20 years on the whole mixed use thing (they also went to first pick for game slots which was annoying for them). FWIW, my dad says everyone loves what he's done with Canes (besides for that dirty dirty Rantanen).

Can't really control anything from here, so if he intends to move the team, so be it. My hope would be the NBA would see the damage done to Seattle with the loss of the Sonics and attempt to block that from happening to another beloved franchise that's embraced so hard by their fans and has been for decades, but I'm old enough to know the the world isn't fair.

Relocate the Hawks, Wizards or Pelicans. Nobody goes to those games.

The Bulls have three nationally televised games this season. None of the three are at home. Two of the three are on streaming platforms (Peacock/Amazon Prime) and the other is ESPN at Brooklyn in mid-January.

I guess the league is underrating the emergence of the Matas Buzelis era.

Pelicans are the obvious choice. Nobody has ever cared about a team in NO.

Djax jokes aside, that's where I am with this whole thing. I don't trust the owners. How quickly we forget what happened to the beloved Sonics after all the talk of them staying put. I really hope the same doesn't happen to Portland. That city actually supports their sport franchises unlike NOLA, etc.

So wish they would have found a localish owner

Something tells me that if there were some of those considering it, the powers-that-be and their ways scared them off

It is, after all, a business

so my pop was a huge milwaukee braves fan and after they left and went to atlanta he never recongized them as a major league team again he would literally refer to them as a minor league team and he rooted against them until his last days for me if portland moves that is where i am at take that to the bank bromigos

At least it is really hard to see how he could move them to Raleigh.

Tom Dundon lives in Dallas. I find it a little odd that he owns a team in Raleigh but continues to make his home in Dallas. To me, that signifies a lack of interest in moving the Blazers there. Plus, how do you move a team from the Western division to the east coast without a disruption to the Association?

There were two other key investors in this purchase as well. Marc Zahr, a Chicago based fund manager with 250 billion AUM and Sheel Tyle, a Portland based businessman.

They aren't going to move the team to Chicago, are they? And why partner up with a Portland businessman if you intend to relocate the team?

It's still crazy that they haven't done a realignment and moved the Grizzlies to the Eastern Conference since they left Vancouver.

I've just read some stuff about him wanting an MLB team in Raleigh over the years.

Doesn't surprise me. They still have a team called the Jazz despite their move to Utah. Still the funniest mascot/identity for a very white Mormon town.

I mean, isn’t Memphis still farther west than every eastern conference team?

Tuesday nights are going to be awesome. Coast 2 Coast baby! (it’s the number two but pronounced like “to” - very clever NBA marketing team!)

BREAKING: NBC is debuting ‘Coast 2 Coast Tuesday,’ where the second leg of a Tuesday night NBA doubleheader will begin at 11:00 p.m ET.

Even on the West Coast, that timing makes no sense to me.

Since it’s the dog days of the offseason…

Choose your best rotation (10 or fewer players) for the 2025-6 season made up of players who had their NBA debut with your favorite team. It doesn’t matter who they play for now but their first NBA game must have been with the team. Edit: Let’s also allow rookies for this year.

Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu
Jimmy Butler, Max Strus
Matas Buzelis, Patrick Williams
Lauri Markkanen, Bobby Portis
Daniel Gafford, Wendell Carter

This team is better than the current Bulls.

Cool question. Tough to out one together for Boston - they haven't had a high draft pick in a long time which means the past several years are mostly role players.

Marcus Smart, Payton Pritchard
Aaron Nesmith, Sam Hauser
Jaylen Brown, Grant Williams
Jayson Tatum, Guerschon Yabusele
Robert Williams III, Kelly Olynyk

I spent two minutes starting to work this out for the Kings and then realized it was too much of a bummer and quit.

Most of these guys were on the greatest summer league team of all time:

Lonzo Ball, D’Angelo Russell
Alex Caruso, Austin Reaves
Julius Randle, Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma
Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr
Ivica Zubac, Mo Wagner/Thomas Bryant

ETA - forgot Julius

C: Jokic, Nurkic
PF: MPJ, Vanderbilt
SF: Braun, Torrey Craig
SG: Malik Beasley, Gary Harris
PG: Murray, Monte Morris

They aren't going to defend for ****, but that would be an incredible offense to watch... at least with the starters. The bench is trash.

They lack the high end talent, but they could run a full 10 deep and just bludgeon teams with the bench.

Julian Champagnie and Ben Simmons are probably better players in 2025 than Thybulle and Reed, respectively.

I think the starting lineup would be Maxey, McCain, Holiday, Grant, Embiid with McConnell, Joe, Champagnie, Simmons, and Vucevic. I could buy Highsmith for Simmons as he can at least kind of shoot and probably fits a little better as a real PF.

PG - Tyus Jones, Kris Dunn, Rob Dillingham

With guys like Beringer, Love, Clark, Dillinham making the list, I understand why you would go with more than 10 to make a rotation, but you didn't do a good job of listening to directions.

All good with me. I was concerned that some teams that have traded away a lot of draft picks might be really scrapping the bottom of the barrel if I requested full rosters. You know, guys playing in China or bringing guys out of retirement. Stuff like that.

Ok, yes, I would definitely go with champagnie over thybulle or reed. I briefly considered him but I thought that he had only played for the blue coats, however I see that he did in fact play a grand total of 7 minutes for the Sixers. So I would take his shooting. I just wouldn’t really want to be in the Simmons business but now that I remember that thybulle barely played last year, they might be close to equivalent. I still love b-ball Paul, so I don’t know, kind of tossup among tisse, Ben and him. I would definitely rather go with highsmith over Ben, despite his recent injury troubles , because he can at least shoot cromulently.

Pistons

Isaiah Thomas, Cade Cunningham
Joe Dumars, Dave Bing
Grant Hill, Tayshaun Prince
Dennis Rodman, John Salley

You’re going with Andre Drummond ahead of Ben Wallace? Even Rasheed Wallace played some center for the Pistons.
