Lion fans are sometimes guilty of being in awe of the shiny new object. Even if it makes zero sense.
@BobbyLayne I love the effort. I suppose there is also the small chance Carr signs with Tampa, the Jets trade for Rodgers which leaves Houston, Indy, Carolina, Atlanta and Green Bay all in positions where they could be desperate for a rookie QB. If there enough fuss perhaps we see 4 QBs in the first 5 picks? Very very unlikely though.
Thinking about maximizing draft value, I think a small move back from 6 to 9ish makes sense and then trying to use 2 2nd rounders to get into the back of the 1st/top of the 2nd.
Finding the trade partner ofcourse is always the challenge and it’s likely every team is on to the idea this class is weak. That said, I was totally thinking like you. Weatherspoon, Porter Jr and O’Cyrus or Gonzalez, Branch, Keion White. Something like that could be incredible and with Holmes, I believe.48 + 55 should get you back to around 21-25. That would be brilliant if you can find a trading partner.
Three firsts should get you two quality CBs and a starting lineman.
I've watched a lot of football over decades but haven't seen a signature move like this:Emmanuel Forbes, Mississippi State

Forbes holds the record for most career pick-sixes in college football with 6. The Mississippi State CB is the definition of a ball HAWK.

It was a fun play to watch but I'm not so sure that was a "move" more than simply a recovery from falling that played out well.I've watched a lot of football over decades but haven't seen a signature move like this:Emmanuel Forbes, Mississippi State

Hard pass on Hardman. And he just had surgery. I would rather keep Chark.Mecole Hardman is also a free agent. Kevin Cole at PFF has him as one of the top values at the position.
Looking at this draft class and the first round projections from pick #6 onwards, I would rather trade down and trade for Ramsey. This first round looks like a total minefield, at least 80% of these guys are not going to pan out. Good luck guessing which ones do hit.

Detroit needs to be plastering news about Jaylen Carter arrest warrant all over every media outlet.

I believe the national media and Twitter has that covered for you
Doubt he's on Detroit's draft board but plenty of NFL teams have no issue with drafting guys with off field issues or character concerns
Cannot conceive of Holmes and Campbell drafting him now
That would negate everything they have said they stand for since Day 1
Literally talked about by both of them in any conversation about player evaluation
I would usually agree but 2 things give me pause. 1) Rumors before this that there were character concerns and 2) News that he this isn't the first time he's gotten in legal trouble for reckless driving.I don't really consider it an off field or character concern. I find it hard to judge based on media reports, I don't know the guy, and count me among those that did stupid **** as a college kid.
I imagine 99% of the teams feel the same come draft day unfortunately, would be awesome if he fell to 6.
Ok my final pre-combine, no trades mock
1.06 CB Devon Witherspoon Illinois: Huge need meets huge senior year performance, seems to have a MCDC attitude
1.18 DT Calijah Kancey Pitt: Athletic interior pass rusher with some outside versatility, Holmes has invested a lot in the DL and I think he should continue (think 49ers)
2.48: OG Steve Avila TCU: Powerful, athletic and has experience at C, good fit for Lions gap heavy scheme and can keep a strength strong
2.55 DE Felix Uzomah K State: Bendy, high upside edge rusher with 3 down potential
3.81 RB Devon Achane Texas A&M: Field tilting speed, kind of a luxury pick but the Lions might be at that point now (at least when it comes to the 3rd round)
If Williams plays as well next year then it would take a kings ransom to get 1.01. He looks freaking incredible.Haven't heard much about Caleb Williams this year but bundling this years picks for still more 1st rounders next year would be a consideration. Position yourself with ammo to go get next year's #1.
Of course that strategy hinges on the #1 pick next year being willing to trade.
Measured in 6’1” 280 and just put up 95th percentile speed. Love this guy for Detroit. Exactly the kind of interior pressure guy we need.Asked at the podium today about his playing weight, Calijah Kancey:
I played at 275. Right now I'm 280. And I'm looking good.
Interior rushing nightmare. So quick off the snap, great use of hands, gets leverage - lineman have no target to hit. Can't stick him in the A gap bc he'll get double teamed but as a B gap he'll be a problem. 47 pressures in 275 rushing snaps. Coming off the board right around the 18th pick and interior DL is def a position of need for Detroit. Not a great run stopper but with Alim and (hopefully) Buggs manning the 1-tech would be great having Kancey and Paschal rotating the other DI spot.
Nice, anything of note?Dan Campbell on NFL network at the combine right now.
DJ and Rich Eisen just asked him about his man crush for Hutch last year. He had his usual way of making coach speak entertaining.Nice, anything of note?Dan Campbell on NFL network at the combine right now.

Interviewed about 30 players so far, will do about 15 more. Of those 30, four of them “got it”. There’s four guys so far we know are the right kind of people for our culture.
Yes, great quote from him as always: “You grade off tape, not what happens with guys running around in pajamas,” Campbell quipped during his press conference on Wednesday afternoon.DJ and Rich Eisen just asked him about his man crush for Hutch last year. Didn't catch that one but saw a quote from another interview:

Also said he doesn’t care what they can do in pajamas bc the evaluation is about the film and the interview.

I wonder what kind of odds Vegas would give on that being the matchup.Hell, let’s have Detroit vs Cleveland
The way the bullet train is running, he might not get to 6.Richardson to the Lions at 6?
Richardson to the Lions at 6?What is the story on Emmanuel Forbes? 4.35 and long. He has my attention.
Though I see 166 and that is also a bit worrisome. Might be better with an extra 5-10 pounds and running a 4.45
The way the bullet train is running, he might not get to 6.
I wouldn't be mad about Stroud either. He looked so smooth and accurate. The way the bullet train is running, he might not get to 6.Richardson to the Lions at 6?
I assume it's based on the one comment from Holmes? Some days I just want to unfollow all the Lions YouTube channels. All these channels going off on Jamo and all the red flags. It is like they are all digging for stupid crap to talk about.
