@BobbyLayne I love the effort. I suppose there is also the small chance Carr signs with Tampa, the Jets trade for Rodgers which leaves Houston, Indy, Carolina, Atlanta and Green Bay all in positions where they could be desperate for a rookie QB. If there enough fuss perhaps we see 4 QBs in the first 5 picks? Very very unlikely though.
Thinking about maximizing draft value, I think a small move back from 6 to 9ish makes sense and then trying to use 2 2nd rounders to get into the back of the 1st/top of the 2nd.

48 + 55 should get you back to around 21-25. That would be brilliant if you can find a trading partner.
Three firsts should get you two quality CBs and a starting lineman.

Finding the trade partner ofcourse is always the challenge and it’s likely every team is on to the idea this class is weak. That said, I was totally thinking like you. Weatherspoon, Porter Jr and O’Cyrus or Gonzalez, Branch, Keion White. Something like that could be incredible and with Holmes, I believe.

Did not play press man as much as Witherspoon or Porter, but did very well when they asked that of him. Seems like a no-brainer if he’s there at the 48th pick.
Likely have to move up if they really want him but who knows, Combine will shift stuff around.
My CB rankings:

Gonzales is the best example of someone who is scheme independent, should excel regardless of landing spot.
The first five as well as Safety/Slot Corner Brian Branch could be off the board by pick 31. Very deep class though. CB21 Starling Thomas V UAB or CB30 Nic Jones Ball St are capable of becoming quality Nickel Back starters.
But if you want a guy who is a true difference maker headed for future Pro Bowls, then it’s a Top 15 pick on one of the 1-2-3 guys.

One scenario I like a lot if the Top 5 includes only two QB is trading back with Atlanta (8 + 44) or Carolina (9 + 39), both of whom might be in the Stroud/Richardson market, That early-to-mid 2nd Round pick should yield a quality Edge or CB starter.
We’re not really there yet in terms of roster construction. You want to follow the model of consistently great teams, you’ll have the team mostly built out and the draft is for future proofing. We’re still looking for several key starters (RG-DL-LB-CB.)
I like our chances of winning the North this year but I’m even more excited to see Brad Holmes in Y4/Y5/Y6. I believe he gets how to build a roster better than any of his predecessors.

It was a fun play to watch but I'm not so sure that was a "move" more than simply a recovery from falling that played out well.

Def a mixed bag class.
Weak at WR, IOL, DI, and nothing but questions from the first four QBs (size, helmet decal, experience, accuracy.)
Very deep at CB - huge need for Detroit - and Edge.
OT seems solid but no generational talent guys. Off-ball LB and S are top heavy.
Lions have the 4th most draft capital in this years draft.

And still only 20 years old (as is BJ Ojulari.) He's not done developing, and he led the power 5 in sacks last year.
He doesn't have great bend but the variety in his technique (great punch, spin move) allows him to generate pressure from the inside on stunts. I love him playing the John Cominsky role, left DE or slide inside on NASCAR packages when they play all Edge DL. He straddles that tweener line he plays strong - can't bull rush. but he's got every other move in the book. The only real knock is 16 missed tackles last year, has to clean that up.
Keion White is a similar prospect, an Edge you can slide inside. I'm less enamoured with Lukas Van Ness or Andre Carter who are 20-30 pounds lighter.

Doubt he's on Detroit's draft board but plenty of NFL teams have no issue with drafting guys with off field issues or character concerns
Cannot conceive of Holmes and Campbell drafting him now
That would negate everything they have said they stand for since Day 1
Literally talked about by both of them in any conversation about player evaluation
I don't really consider it an off field or character concern. I find it hard to judge based on media reports, I don't know the guy, and count me among those that did stupid **** as a college kid.
I imagine 99% of the teams feel the same come draft day unfortunately, would be awesome if he fell to 6.

I would usually agree but 2 things give me pause. 1) Rumors before this that there were character concerns and 2) News that he this isn't the first time he's gotten in legal trouble for reckless driving.

1.18 DT Calijah Kancey Pitt: Athletic interior pass rusher with some outside versatility, Holmes has invested a lot in the DL and I think he should continue (think 49ers)
2.48: OG Steve Avila TCU: Powerful, athletic and has experience at C, good fit for Lions gap heavy scheme and helps keep a team strength strong
2.55 DE Felix Uzomah K State: Bendy, high upside edge rusher with 3 down potential
3.81 RB Devon Achane Texas A&M: Field tilting speed,kind of a luxury pick but the Lions might be at that point now (at least when it comes to the 3rd round)

Good stuff, covered the most pressing needs with the first 3 picks. It’s tough finding good value at 55, almost have to pivot to offense or double down on another CB. I like TE Tucker Kraft at 81 but I wouldn’t be surprised if Holmes waits until the 6th round for a Schoonmaker/Whyle type in-line TE.
BTW…you know you don’t have to use the default settings for PFF simulator, right?
Slide the “Use Defaults” to the left and four sliders pop up:

- Care for positional value

I played at 275. Right now I'm 280. And I'm looking good.
Interior rushing nightmare. So quick off the snap, great use of hands, gets leverage - lineman have no target to hit. Can't stick him in the A gap bc he'll get double teamed but as a B gap he'll be a problem. 47 pressures in 275 rushing snaps. Coming off the board right around the 18th pick and interior DL is def a position of need for Detroit. Not a great run stopper but with Alim and (hopefully) Buggs manning the 1-tech would be great having Kancey and Paschal rotating the other DI spot.

Haven't heard much about Caleb Williams this year but bundling this years picks for still more 1st rounders next year would be a consideration. Position yourself with ammo to go get next year's #1.
Of course that strategy hinges on the #1 pick next year being willing to trade.

Measured in 6’1” 280 and just put up 95th percentile speed. Love this guy for Detroit. Exactly the kind of interior pressure guy we need.
EDIT: They updated his official 40 to 4.67, 100th percentile. Fastest DT ever recorded.

I think only Banks had long arms (34") but he does look a lot like the kid from Cincy by way of Detroit
Can play press or zone - not as good as the top 3 - his film reminds me of Diggs
Will bait the QB and has the quicks to close in fast
No interest in setting an edge, he looks like Coach Prime stopping the run
I like him a lot - have him behind the Top 3, Stevenson, Banks, and Ricks but that's mostly bc I think success in press man is the best indicator of NFL ready

Saw it in here early in the season. Wasn't winning enough, not strong enough to bull rush, creates pressure but can't get home.
Dude had a phenomenal rookie season while facing a double team rate of 39% - highest in the NFL. Played 84% of the snaps, not just a DPR by any means.

Excited to see what Brad Holmes will surprise us with, in a good way. He and his scouting team have done a pretty good job of evaluating talent. Plus they limit the process to guys who fit their culture: love ball, high RAS, good production at the college level, history of team captaincy/leadership roles. His first two years he has crushed it.
Pretty amazing that Spielman & company got it right on both hires. In a recent Inside the Den episode, Sheila Hamp said that hiring Chris was the best decision they've ever made.

With the QBs showing out, the Lions 6th pick got more valuable. Perhaps they go QB to develop behind Goff, maybe another team offers a sizable package to move up for one of the QBs at 6 or perhaps a blue chip front 7 defender makes it to them with 3 or even 4 QBs going top 5.
