2025 Detroit Lions: 7-5 Pack beat Lions again. :( (306 Viewers)

Any chance Frank watched yesterday’s game and was like, “On second thought …”?

At this stage kind of wish Frank had taken the whole year off, get right and come back fresh for 2-3 more seasons.

I don't know enough about his foot injury, but would it work that way? Or is it more he can handle 10 games a year with limited practices and no OTA's?

Have no idea. Seems odd for a football player to come back in December after retiring. Maybe the foot is feeling better, and he just needed more time off. I do remember reading they can`t do anymore surgeries on the turf toe that has been nagging him.

Yeah. I remember reading that. It is all pain management it won't ever heal. I guess we are about to find out. Hopefully it isn't too late.

5 - 0 down the stretch the division would still be in play, but still unlikely.
4 - 1 pretty much guarantees a wild card spot
3 - 2 they would need some seriois help with the Bears/Packers Cowboys and 49ers losing the right games and the Lions beating the Cowboys and Bears.
2- 3 or worse and it is over for this season.

I am disappointed, but also not shocked. You lose both coordinators, basically have 60 percent of the offensive line as new starters with Glasnow switching positions, and your two best defensive lineman coming off major injuries and regression was going to come. Just didn't expect this much regression.

Dark humor is better than no humor. This is going to be a good test of whether the Lions and Campbell have grit.
Have to imagine Campbell’s blood pressure is at an all time high with Ben Johnson leading the division, hopefully we can respond accordingly.

I don’t think it’s odd at all. Skip training camp and the slog of the early season games and play a few high-impact games at the end of the year. I kinda hope it’s not that, since it would suggest he’s less likely to come back for another 2-3 years, but that seems the most plausible explanation to me

So my BIL and SIL live in Naperville outside Chicago and Facetimes us yesterday running his chops and getting all chesty about Da Bears. They were in Wrigleyville and all the bars were jammed for the Eagles game, and acting like they won the Superbowl after.

The energy kind of reminded me of when the Lions finally turned the corner a couple years ago.

Hopefully the last game means something and we can knock them off. Tired of them already.

I just posted in the Bears thread…scary part is that Chicago has loads of talent with pass catchers and they are not even close to maximizing their passing attack. If Caleb continues to grow, they have the pieces to be dynamic for a long time.

Just reported on The Ticket that Rags failed his physical and will not play this season.

Really puts a damper on turning the season around. Hopefully they finish strong and then really go after some talent on offensive and defensive line in the offseason.

Not even the toe. Grade 3 hamstring injury. A grade 3 is a torn hammy.

Strange as he has not even practiced yet.

That is crazy. When it rains it pours.

Backs against the wall, the next two will be a challenge (DAL/Rams). Gibbs is going to have to put his cape on if we are going to have a chance to keep up with those teams on the scoreboard.
With all the hits to the OL and offense it would be real nice if the defense would step up and particularly the pass rush.
I agree, but facing DAL/Rams we will need something on the scoreboard. Not a lot of confidence from me on how the last five games will go, hope they prove me wrong.

Cold water but I'm sure it's been discussed.

Anybody hear from BL? I'm not trying to convey worry, but I am a bit. Miss his efforts here and felt like I was closer to the Lions than I should be in CA. Far as this board and thread, he became the glue. If you're reading @BobbyLayne I hope you are well. My not-so-Christian self will say an un-ironic prayer for you and your wife tonight. Peace.

Yeah I just saw that update and was thinking “bro showed up with a completely torn hammy?!”

Like how was he expecting to contribute? I can’t believe he walked in. Was he carted in? What’s even happening here?

Holiday weekend? Maybe he’s out of contact for a min?

Does seem a bit weird. Put me in the “hope he’s ok” camp.

It's been a long time. Like, really long when football weeks are sort of like months. Feels like over half the year. Not being morbid because I really don't think that happened. I just don't, or didn't. I typed out a thought but I refuse to speculate because his reasoning is his to own and he certainly deserves his privacy without speculation. My post was so that if anybody miraculously knew; but then turned, and I'm being honest here, into an "I hope he sees this" post, and it's both caring with a self-interested but fair impulse, one that stops at its goal that is not even a plea for him to come back or to check in and ease worry, though that would be cool; no, it's to just let him know that he's thought of.

It was posted here a few weeks ago that he’s doing okay but he’s also been busy but would rather not post here anymore due to all the bickering if I remember correctly.

Great poster, I enjoyed his posts.

Good to hear. Good for him.

Was on my phone. Relieved to hear that he’s okay.

Frank walks in and Holmes says "How are you feeling Frank, good to go for Dallas?" Frank: Pretty good except I think I tore my hamstring getting off the plane" Whole thing is bizarre.

A grade 3 hamstring strain is a complete tear of the hamstring muscle, a severe injury marked by intense pain, significant swelling, bruising, and weakness. Patients often report hearing a "pop" at the time of injury and may be unable to walk or straighten their leg. Immediate medical attention is required, and treatment can involve surgical repair for complete ruptures, especially those where the tendon pulls away from the bone.

The NFL has put a Bulls-Eye on Brien Branch. This was from the Giants game. Branch fine total is now at $170,000 in just his 3rd season.

Safety Brian Branch was fined $23,186 for unnecessary roughness after hitting a defenseless player.

Yeah, I get that these guys are used to dealing with pain at a level I’m not acquainted with. But I’ve been dealing with a grade 1/2 injury, and there is no way I could have pretended it was completely fine. Grade 3……I mean that’s a brutal injury. My doctor was a junior Olympian and is recovering from a Grade 3 hammy….and he still doesn’t feel quite right over a year post-injury.

I just don’t get it.

I'm as upset as any of you. My passion has been misconstrued as negativity, but my passion is and was because I want to see this team win a ring and I wanted Holmes to do whatever it took to help make that happen. Their window is closing and it might be closing fast. Losing Johnson hurts far more than any of us thought.

O line went from a strength to a weakness fast. As I said in the preseason, Decker another year older.

This team just isn't really good right now. Healthy or not. Teams around them have improved and Brad and Dan simply thought "we good".

They are out of the playoffs. Dallas as hot as anyone and the Rams may very well smoke them.

The real issue is, I don'/t know where they go from here. They went from building depth to now having to address a few issues.

Their game next Monday vs Dallas may be for their playoff lives. They have a very hard schedule left, and the last game is in Chicago.
Game with Dallas is on Thursday night. Lions schedule has been difficult. Was counting the Cowboys game as a gimme until the last few weeks. Momentum is a real thing and Lions have none at the moment. Hoping the Lions can show the grit they have been preaching. Loss of Ben Johnson and the OL issues have hurt. Just don't see Ben Johnson going 0 for 6 on 4th down. That was the difference in the Packers game.

Ok, thanks for the reminder. Had it in my head that it was MNF.

Both starting Guards rank in the Top 30 out of 80+ rated but perhaps that's not enough when you have below avg play at Center, Sewell rated #1 over at Tackle
Decker is average at Left Tackle but he's not rated by PFF at the bottom
Still I think the Lions with so much talent at the skill spots, they need a Top 5 OL and they are not really playing at that level right now

More resources into the OL, whatever it takes

There is plenty of blame to go around. O line just stands out.

I've been clear that I'm not particularly optimistic about this season. I think there are definitely some roster issues that need to be addressed, and maybe some strategic adjustments as well.

But man, some of the negativity I'm seeing out there (not talking about anyone in this thread) is ridiculous. This is still a very good football team, Holmes is still a very good GM, and Campbell is still a very good coach. I was worried coming into this year that the window may be closing, but now I'm not so sure. Who are they going to lose? Most of the important pieces are locked up already. Not sure what's going on with Morton, but if Campbell did make a mistake, I trust him to fix it the same way he did after hiring Anthony Lynn.

Things change quickly in the NFL, and if you have a strong core all it takes is a few good decisions to turn things around. Look at the Eagles. Made the Super Bowl in '22, completely fell apart down the stretch in '23, and looked mediocre the first few weeks of '24 before everything fell into place.

I'm not saying the Lions will definitely do that, but I'm actually feeling way less existential dread than I thought I would considering the way this season has gone

I agree. I just hope they are willing to make those decisions. So far the Lions haven't.

I am feeling optimistic about the Dallas game this week. Vegas generally (not always) knows more than us. The Lions are three point favorites. I feel like this is a must win game. Lose here and the season is over because we don't own any tie breakers right now except against the Bears.

They have played terrible and still lost to Philly and GB by one TD each, so it's not like they are getting blown out of the water, even by the good teams.

It's a cliche but one game at a time, starting with the must win vs Dallas.

That part was made up. Have no idea how he tore his hammy.

I saw something that said if the Lions go 3-2 they still have a 60% chance of making the playoffs, but I suspect that was basing it on historical averages among 10-7 teams. The NFC this year is loaded. In order to make the playoffs, the Lions will have to beat out either an NFC North team or one of two NFC West teams. So let's assume for a moment that Rams and Bears win their divisions. That would mean the Lions would need to beat out one of Seahawks, Niners or Packers (and also hold off Cowboys and Panthers). All three of those teams are currently 1.5 to 2 games ahead in the standings. I just don't see how 3-2 is going to cut it. I think it really has to be 4-1, especially since that would mean a win over the Rams and/or Bears. And even then, they might need some help.

I think the most likely target is Green Bay. Seahawks are too good and Niners are going to win any conference-record tiebreaker. With GB, the sweep is irrelevant for tiebreaking purposes because of the Cowboys tie. And they have a habit of not showing up to what should be easy matchups. Other possibility would be the Bears tailing off down the stretch and Lions having a chance to complete the season sweep in Week 18.

But even there, a 4-1 Lions finish would require a 2-3 finish from those other teams to make up the ground. Gonna be tough

Agree. And Chicago has GB’s number now.

They are a very good football team; however, this team is not as good as last year's and teams like LA, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle and GB made moves to get better.

We replaced Davis with Reed, drafted a DT in the 1st who is 19th on the team in tackles and traded 3rd rounders that could have helped us now for a WR that barely plays. We did nothing at the trade deadline when it was obvious there was serious needs to address. I'm sure Holmes tried, but the fact is they didn't.

Combine that with some players being another year older and losing both coordinators and here we are.

It appears a new OC will be one move. Addressing LT and center is a priority as is finding more help with the pass rush.
Let's hope they address them.
