2025 Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Jersey number is SRS BZNS ☠ (28 Viewers)

Jonnu Smith released. I think because it's still officially the 2023 season that he goes through waivers? I'd like to claim him if so, he's someone we can get use out of and he factors into 2026 comp formula if we don't re-sign him after this season.

The salary on his existing contract would be $6.5 MM for 2024. I don't think he's worth that. He need to accept a big pay reduction, which I doubt he'd take without first testing out the full market for his services.
You sir, Mr Lawfitz , are the official FBG Raider thread accountant , being the expert of all things cap related . You put the numbers right out there for all to see and understand , i thank you .

That is less than Tyler Conklin, Josh Oliver, Hayden Hurst, Will Dissly, CJ Uzomah, and Logan Thomas.

There will be some good players cut as we get into the real off season....
Bills, Saints, Dolphins, Chargers, Broncos, Cowboys, Browns and Niners are negative in cap space right now. On the other end, there are 5 teams with over $70 million in cap space to spend on FA's.

A week ago, the senior Lombardi put Antonio Pierce on blast for his comments on the ‘Mahomes Rules’ tactic that defeated the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

“This guy is driving me crazy,” Lombardi said about Pierce on The GM Shuffle podcast. “Can he just shut up? Why won’t somebody in the Raiders tell him to shut up?”

This week, Lombardi picked up where he left off.

LV should be able to address the O line in free agency. Some teams are against the wall and smart teams take advantage.

Yes, this is as cap stands currently.

And also Michael Lombardi...
“I think Josh McDaniels is one of the best coaches in the National Football League. He’s one of the brightest offensive minds in football."

He hasn't been with the Raiders in 20 years and out of the league for 8 years. Not to mention his son got fired so... there may be a little influence from that.

Also, he clearly doesn't understand organizational culture and how the Raiders have been adrift for 20 years with no identity. AP has a love for the Raiders and what it meant to be a Raider from the 60's through 90's... and just into the 2000's before it went to hell.

Finally, for a guy that does media, he is awfully tone deaf from what the fans think. Not a great way to gain audience when you basically say the opposite of what 98% of a fanbase thinks right now.

All of those players are (below average) starting TEs, save for perhaps Dissly, who is underrated as a multi-purpose TE. Paying Jonnu below avg starting TE money to be Mayer's backup seems like a waste of resources that could be much better used on proper OL/DL trench assets. I'd much rather find a $1-2 MM backup TE.

If he's out-performing them then it's money well spent. Getsy put the TE to work well in CHI and if he's able to get something out of 2 TE sets Jonnu would be a nice option to have at a value number since ATL is eating the signing bonus allocation for us.

Raiders Quarterback: 4 Main Options Available

Those are the contours of the Raiders’ decision at quarterback. Basically, there are four options:

  • Try to get in on a bustling quarterback market in the first round. The Raiders could attempt to move up into the Top 3 in the draft and pick Caleb Williams, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. All three have star potential, and the Raiders need a star at the position. They also could attempt to get JJ McCarthy, in hopes that he falls to No. 13. But they’re also a team on the cusp of returning to the playoffs, and putting their short-term future in the hands of a rookie risks that.
  • Sign a clear starter in free agency. There are not many of these on the market, and though there is some sense to the Raiders getting the likes of Baker Mayfield or Kirk Cousins, they’d be expensive and each would probably prefer to play elsewhere. Russell Wilson could be available, too, but he might not be better than O’Connell.
  • Trade for a clear starter. Again, the options here would be limited. Justin Fields makes some sense. Not many other starters are on the market.
  • Add a “bridge” quarterback. The Raiders could sign or trade for a moderately priced option, including veteran free agents Sam Darnold, Jacoby Brissett or Gardner Minshew. The idea would be that O’Connell could beat any of them out for the starting job or, if the wheels fall off for him in Year 2, there’s a steady hand to pick up the slack. The Raiders could draft a quarterback with a later pick, too, in this scenario.

Fields to ATL seems to be the buzz.

If that takes them out of the QB market, they are a potential trade up partner. Our 1st and 2nd is fair, according to trade value chart.

Assuming ATL trades their own 2nd for Fields, they would end up getting him at just the cost of trading down from pick 8 to 13 in the first two rounds. Seems like a sweet deal for them (and the Raiders, if their QB target falls to 8).

If the Michigan leprechaun isn't in the cards, and we are getting a QB in free agency or round 2, I think it might be a lock that the best player in the draft when we pick is Bowers. I would love that pick.

Spread offense , wont need a RB
Mayer - Brock

Adams - Meyers - Tucker

I think the smart move for the Patriots is to move down. Mac Jones showed he can play NFL football in his rookie season. Trade down, get him some players around him and I don't know... an actual OC and go.

Also, the Pats released JC Jackson. Chances Telesco gives him another chance would be minimal but he should come at a huge discount now.

there is no way are Pats running it back w/ Mac, Yes his circumstances were not great but he is not good, plus the fan base would revolt.

I agree with this and would love if we choose to go the budget route, we do it with Mac. If NEP do draft a QB we could get Mac for a six pack of Bud Light and I think he can play in this league. Talk about a QB that got no support - he had defensive coordinators calling him offense and his WR were absolutely awful.

I wonder. I completely agree that picking up Mac Jones would be a good move. I wonder if the Raiders would.

Actual chances are slim at best. Not even sure it makes sense for NEP to trade him, probably better to let him compete with rookie. If rookie isn't ready maybe Jones can flash something and improve his trade value or compensatory pick return for NEP. But I would love something like this as a bargain alternative if we can't land Fields.

As the Combine comes to an end the rumor mill seems to have Fields going to Atl, Russ is being linked heavily to Pitt. Where does that leave the Raiders? It seems like the winds are blowing towards a big trade with the Commanders. If Telesco and AP want their guy Daniels, it’s going to cost them the future. I get the feeling in AP’s world the future is now. I just don’t see this regime being conservative, they’re going all in because AP probably only has a year or two, there’s no time to slow play this with O’Connell. He’s going to be a solid and trustworthy backup for Daniels.

Great question. At least 3 ones and a couple 2s and maybe throw in Hunter Renfrow. The tough part is getting Washington to move off #2 especially if they like Daniels as much as the Raiders.
I think best case scenario is Washington really wants Williams so they move up to #1 and that makes Chicago the Raiders new trade partner, who might be more willing to trade down especially if they keep Fields.

3 ones and a couple of twos always sounds bad to me. I get it, a precedence has been set, but it still seems like mortgaging the future with high risk.

I hear ya, I’m not a big fan of mortgaging the future either. I just think AP wants to be aggressive and make a play for Daniels. Whether he’s successful or not, time will tell. Telesco obviously will have final say in the matter because his job will be on the line as well. The organization as whole from the top down will have to be 100% all in on the move for it to happen.

If AP is serious about winning NOW than wouldnt it make sense to go after a proven veteran at QB like Cousins ? Build the Defense into a Juggernaut as well with immediate impact rookies?

I hope he’s serious about winning now no matter what they do at QB. My take is going off his most recent interview with Q, Hondo and Vinny B. His body language and inflection in his voice changes whenever they bring up Daniels. I think he really wants Telesco to go all in on him. I have not heard one peep about any interest in Cousins from either side. There sure is quite a bit of chatter of them moving up though.
I’ve been riding the couch recovering from minor surgery so I’ve been watching a lot of podcasts and haven’t seen any traction with a single veteran QB coming to Vegas.

If the Vikings don't sign him to an extension before the final four years of his contract void on March 12, they will carry a $28.5 million dead money charge on their salary cap and Cousins will be an open-market free agent for the second time in his career. Should that happen, I expect the Falcons to make a strong pursuit. I have been told by multiple sources this week that signing Cousins -- not trading for Justin Fields -- is the Falcons' top QB solution, assuming Cousins makes it to free agency.
Graziano ESPN

Would be interesting if Cousins wound up in ATL. To keep my McCarthy dream alive, need a vet QB in ATL.

I’ve heard that blank wants cousins. at any cost

If ATL gets Fields the "The Chart" says to move from #13 to #8 would cost the #68 pick. Our 3rd is #75 and our 2nd is #44. I'd be happy paying the tax and giving up #44 to go get McCarthy (would prefer if we can get a later pick back like a 6th). If ATL has to pay a 2nd for Fields then that would replenish it, so they basically net Fields for moving back a bit in the first.

Do teams normally show their entire hand during this Draft and FA process?

His body language and inflection in his voice changes whenever they bring up Daniels. I think he really wants Telesco to go all in on him. I have not heard one peep about any interest in Cousins from either side. There sure is quite a bit of chatter of them moving up though.
I’ve been riding the couch recovering from minor surgery so I’ve been watching a lot of podcasts and haven’t seen any traction with a single veteran QB coming to Vegas.
I would think that if the Raiders were to move up into the top 3 it would have to come in the next couple of weeks. That way they know they don't need to bring in a pricey vet.

It looks like Marshon Lattimore may be traded from the Saints after June 1, a byproduct of their brutal cap situation.

I dunno how healthy he is, but be would cost no more than a 3rd I bet

What's the source here? That would only give them about $4M cap relief this year while pushing $21M forward and they just re-worked his contract in January to move $11M off 2024 in the first place. They are only $18M over the cap currently and have guys like Kamara, Taysom Hill, and Tyrann Mathieu they could restructure as well to get under with much bigger cap savings. Kamara and Hill would each be about $7.5M saved in 2024 (all pushed to 2025) and Mathieu would be a bit under $6M. Combined this would be $20M saved in 2024 as opposed to $4M from Lattimore with the same $20+M pushed into 2025. This would be a truly baffling move unless they got a premium return for the premium player he is.

That said, I snap accept a trade for him with just a $1.2M 2024 cap hit and $18M in 2025 and 2026.

The author is implying that as a result of this restructure it's easier to trade him. The reality is that it's not. Had they not done this restructure the dead money would have been exactly the same, this just gives them some temporary cap relief in case they are able to find a trade partner.

I maintain my position - if they are going to trade him and only save $4M on 2024 cap, they won't trade him at a bargain rate. They have other ways to make space. I'd jump all over a 3rd rounder if they do.

I assumed the Lattimore trade talk came from the notion that they were thinking about future years as well. His cap numbers the next two years are high, and they have already added two void years.

So Russell Wilson is a free man . He says hes excited about whats next for him. Anyone know how his contract plays out? Does anyone care ?
