2025 Miami Dolphins - 1-6, Currently hold the #2 pick in the draft. (15 Viewers)

You guys are the best team in the AFC right now. Hands down.
Competetive, but not the best. The offense is peaking, but the defense has only had one or 2 good games vs Brissett and Mac Jones. The schedule gets tough. KC is better and a healthy BUF is better. Then Miami-BAL-CIN.

That's very kind of you to say.
I don't think that is true just yet but we're improving on Offense.
Our defense is a work in progress right now and it could cost Miami when we get to the post season
I'm trying not to be such a biased fanboy but it's hard not to.

Y'all watch the Mike'd up with Tua yet?
What a tease you are

I'm overwhelmed watching this team right now

forget about his play Tua looks like a COMPLETELY different person.... it's amazing what happens to a person when they're not constantly walking around on egg shells.

What a tease you are
:ROFLMAO:

@Ministry of Pain, some good stuff from Barry Jackson, for your eyes only. Good for future reference. It's gonna be harder to add pieces to the team for the next 2 years. Might as well aim for SB LVII in Glendale in 2023.

>>Brandon Shore, the Dolphins’ senior vice president of football and business administration, has been a salary cap magician in recent months, as general manager Chris Grier kept adding talented players to the roster.

Even after lavishing tens of millions on Tyreek Hill, Terron Armstead, Emmanuel Ogbah and trade pickup Bradley Chubb, the Dolphins aren’t in “cap hell.”

But they are in a “cap heck” — something of a difficult, dicey position but one that can be managed.

Per overthecap.com, the Dolphins will enter the offseason with just $521,774 in cap space for 2023, a figure that could be buttressed a bit by the $5.1 million that the Dolphins currently have in 2022 carryover space.

Andy Elisburg has been a cap savant for the Heat for years — one of the best in the business — and Shore’s work during the past year was similarly inspired.

But Shore will need to be even more inspired next spring to navigate what’s ahead. Fourteen things to keep in mind as the Dolphins face their biggest cap challenge in years:

Beyond fullback Alec Ingold, there’s not a single Dolphins running back under contract for 2023. So at least $5 million in space, potentially more, must be carved out to re-sign Raheem Mostert (who’s earning $1.2 million) and Jeff Wilson Jr. ($1.1 million) if Miami decides to do so. Both could get raises. ▪ Though cornerback Byron Jones could return next season, it almost assuredly won’t be on his current contract.

His $13.5 million salary is nonguaranteed in 2023, and the Dolphins likely won’t pay that much to a player who is missing most - if not all — of the 2022 season. He has a big 2023 cap hit ($18.8 million), and that cap hit drops only to $14.8 million if he’s cut before June 1 but $4.8 million if he’s cut after June 1. So if the Dolphins want to release him after this season, waiting until after June 1 makes the most sense. But restructuring the contract with a pay cut - if Jones is amenable - well before June 1 would make even more sense.

▪ The Dolphins won’t be in any position to afford a veteran backup quarterback who’s as costly as Teddy Bridgewater, who’s earning $6 million this season. They will need to find somebody cheaper or hope Skylar Thompson is ready to assume the No. 2 job.
▪ Re-signing tight end Mike Gesicki, which already seemed unlikely, now looks unrealistic, too. Gesicki should command at least $10 million annually in free agency, and the Dolphins don’t have that kind of money unless they start chopping elsewhere. Durham Smythe is under contract at a reasonable $3.2 million for next season (none guaranteed), with a $4.2 million cap hit. Miami could keep him as their starter or cut bait (with no 2023 dead money) and sign a reasonably priced alternative.

The Dolphins also must hope that Hunter Long and Tanner Conner are ready for more prominent roles next season.
▪ Impending free agent cornerback Nik Needham’s season-ending knee injury could allow the Dolphins to re-sign him to a cheap deal — far less than what he would have commanded had he remained healthy and played well for the remainder of 2022.
▪ Impending free agent Andrew Van Ginkel could command more money elsewhere, considering the Dolphins don’t have much cap space and considering there won’t be a ton of playing time behind Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, who are the team’s two long-term starting outside linebackers.

▪Van Ginkel has been playing about 25 snaps a game in the past month, and that could continue — or increase a bit — with Emmanuel Ogbah out for the year. Still, I wouldn’t rule out Van Ginkel returning; he’s liked and appreciated internally. Melvin Ingram also is an impending free agent.
▪ What happens if Tua Tagovailoa - under team control through 2024 - requests a long-term extension next spring and the Dolphins agree to one? That could have a modest impact on the Dolphins’ 2023 cap. As perspective, Kyler Murray’s five-year, $230 million extension in Arizona — signed in July — raised his 2022 cap number by $5.9 million, which was the pro-rated portion of a $29 million signing bonus.

His cap hits of $12.7 million this season and $16.0 million next season then jump to $51.9 million, $41.6 million, $55.6 million, $43.5 million and $46.4 million over the following five years. So if the Dolphins give Tagovailoa a lucractive extension, the impact will be felt somewhat immediately but won’t be significantly felt for a couple of years. Tagovailoa’s cap hit next season is $9.6 million.
▪ The Dolphins can free up additional cap space by restructuring contracts.

Some of the Dolphins’ 2023 cap numbers are jaw-dropping: $31.2 million for Hill, $22.2 million for Chubb, $20.4 million for Armstead, $18.8 million for Byron Jones, $17.4 million for Ogbah. There are also sizable 2023 cap hits for Jerome Baker ($12.5 million), Christian Wilkins ($10.8 million) and Xavien Howard ($10.1 million). Hill, Armstead, Chubb and Wilkins aren’t going anywhere, and Howard likely won’t be going anywhere, either.

Under Howard’s restructured contract, he has a small base salary in 2023 ($1.2 million) that’s fully guaranteed, plus a prorated bonus of $8.8 million. His reasonable $10.1 million cap number in 2023 swells to $33.1 million if he’s cut before June 1 and $31.9 million if he’s traded before June 1. If he’s cut after June 1, his 2023 Dolphins cap hit would be $9.9 million. If he’s traded after June 1, his Dolphins 2023 cap hit would be $8.8 million.

So there’s no reason to move on, even if his play doesn’t return to elite level this season. ▪ The Dolphins are in a condundrum with Ogbah, who’s out for the year with a triceps injury. Keep in mind that Ogbah’s $15 million salary for 2023 is entirely guaranteed, and his $17.3 million 2023 cap number would mushroom to $21 million if he’s cut before June 1 and would stay $17 million if he’s cut after June 1, per overthecap.com.

▪ Kicker Jason Sanders, whose performance has diminished, likely will have competition next summer, but keep in mind that $2.5 million of his $3.4 million salary for 2023 is guaranteed. He has a $3.8 million cap hit for 2023, and if he’s cut, the cap hit would be $3.7 million if cut before June 1, or $2.9 million if cut after June 1. So the Dolphins could take Sanders and another kicker to camp and make a decision in late August. ▪ The Dolphins have a $1 million in dead money on their 2023 cap, including $600,000 for Chase Edmonds and $196,000 for Solomon Kindley.<<

I guess I could break the piggy bank and get a Miami Herald sports access-Barry Jackson has it pinned on his Twitter, I'm sure I would love it.
I stopped reading a lot of the papers over the years and the team was not worth reading about honestly.
But now it's nice to read about them and have some genuine excitement for these upcoming games.

I'm going to respond to all this cap talk but I say this with a wry smile, I wrote Super Bowl or Bust when Ross forfeited the 1st Rd pick, I wasn't kidding.
You get a very short window and this is Year 3 of Tua's rookie deal, assuming they extend him which i might remind you all, nobody wanted to give Tua $200M+ fully guaranteed but make no mistake whether we pay it or not (Ross will back the truck up believe me), Tua can hold them hostage and pull the Murray plan and make some threats behind the curtains but that would be a lot different than the Tua we know. I don't think Miami will make him feel forced to air it out in the media, I just don't think it will come to that. Now it might if MoP were running things but this organization loves him, fans love him, media loves him, they're gonna pay Tua and this team come 2024 will look much different.

I'm hoping we get the trophy before Tua contract #2
$45M-$50M per year, Stephen Ross cannot wait to get the checkbook out
And then he will brag at the owner's meetings about his franchise QB

Went to high school with Barry. Amazed at how good a sports Journalist he has become. He is the only reason to sign up for herald coverage. Same thing goes for th Sun Sentinal when it comes to heat coverage (the actualy news in those papers is a joke now. Not bc of anything political, just the quality of the Journalism is lacking)

Barry covers many local teams very well, including the Dolphins, Hurricanes football, Marlins, and Heat. He does a great job with performance metrics and finances. He was a little critical of Tua before this year, but noted that it was hard to give a grade given his poor oline and receivers with poor separation. He published on the good and bad of Tua and rightly mentioned his injury history. A contrast with some including Ruthie Polinsky who was overly critical.

When I had a house and dogs in NBV, pre-2014, pre-divorce, I used to look forward to waking up early to walk the dogs (4, 2 at a time) and reading the newspaper quietly over breakfast. During my apartment years, I would occassionaly buy the newspaper but finally subscribed online during the Julie K Brown et al investigation of Epstein - I think it was a $1.99 a month special. Now that I'm looking at my CC, I see only one Herald charge in 2021 for $50 and 1 in 2022 for $30. At that price, it's worth it. There's lots of local news I find interesting about real estate, crime, politics, and sports.

Highest single-season EPA per dropback averages excluding play-action/RPOs since 2012 (Weeks 1-10 only):

1. Tua Tagovailoa, 2022 (0.56)

2. Patrick Mahomes, 2018 (0.45)
3. Patrick Mahomes, 2019 (0.44)
4. Tom Brady, 2016 (0.42)

5. Peyton Manning, 2014 (0.36)

There's a common factor in Mahomes '18, '19 and Tua's '22

Very happy for Tua
Very grateful for Tyreek Hill
Tua's still done it better than anyone so far this season.

Brady, Manning, Mahomes, rare company to be mentioned in

2) Doubters of the Miami Dolphins will regret it in January -- and maybe in February.
These Dolphins are legit Super Bowl contenders and should not be confused with the Miami squads that missed the playoffs 12 of the past 13 seasons. Continuing to view them through the prism of recent history will make you look foolish when they beat your team in the playoffs or cost you money at the sportsbook.

An offense that used to be plodding and boring now ranks as one of the league's most exciting, due in equal parts to the creative mind of first-year coach Mike McDaniel, the speed and playmaking abilities of wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and the emergence of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The third-year signal-caller has been everything the organization envisioned when it selected him fifth overall in the 2020 draft -- four spots after Joe Burrow and one spot ahead of Justin Herbert.

Tagovailoa, who has thrown for 18 touchdowns with only three interceptions in eight games this season, has silenced critics who labeled him a game manager who couldn't push the ball downfield. He entered the week leading the league with 9.1 yards per pass attempt. He has thrown for three touchdowns in each of his past three games, during which Miami has put up 31, 35 and 39 points.
Sleep on them if you like, but you're likely to wake up wondering: What just happened?

As the coaching carousel draws near, 1 name to watch for that’s gaining momentum is #Dolphins QB coach/ Pass Game Coordinator Darrell Bevell given his success w/ Tua this season. Bevell was previously Interim HC with the Lions in 2020 & Jaguars in 2021 + (2) SB runs w/ Seattle.

The last time our Dolphins won a SB I was 3 years old.

The last our Dolphins were in a SB I was 15.

If Tua and company manage to defy the pre-season odds and win a Super Bowl this year…..you can bet yer *** I am buying authentic home and away as well as throwback Tua jerseys. I will be forever grateful just to experience one Super Bowl winning season where I was not a toddler.

I'm glad you mention this and especially this jersey. It's all my son wants for Christmas apparently.

-I like to buy the old jerseys and am working on a couple Wilson ProLine from the 80s, think Starter jerseys are 90s.

I returned the Tua jersey that my wife and son bought me in 2020, oh yeah i'm a real stinker. I didn't want it back then.
There's still a credit on the NFL Shop website, think I'll just get matching ones with my son and make him happy.
In 2020 I had to buy him a Bucs Brady jersey when they won the SB, it was a fun moment to enjoy that with him. I root for the Bucs whenever it's not Miami, lot of losing, couple Bucs Super Bowls have been fun but that is my 2nd team. I moved there from '92-'00, had season tickets at the old Sombrero, truly started rooting for them when Dungy arrived, you knew they were different almost immediately..

Enter Mike McDaniel, I've seen this show before to some degree. Coaches make a huge difference and McDaniel has just about won me over. Few details with FGs and not taking the points that we need to get ironed out but that is fixable. His scheme, design and play calling is worth a **** ton vs a few bad decisions on kicking FGs or going for TDs. The team is exciting and they have a good mind that is getting smarter each and every week. Much like his young upstart QB

This has the makings of a potential Bill Walsh-Joe Montana and we have a long way to go but I see things I haven't seen and if I did it was somewhere else, not here.
I made the statement that this Head Coach did not have the luxury of rebuilding, in fact he was taking over a team that went 19-15 it's last 34 games and was just shy of the Playoffs with a ferocious defense and an improving offense that needed a better leader, any leadership really. I SAID HE MUST WIN, He would not be afforded the luxury of missing the Playoffs and having to go back into the Draft, etc...also was pissed we kept Grier at that time when McDaniel was brought on board.

Mike McDaniel gave the team 6 days off, the most they've ever heard anyone give their team in the middle of the season, even on a Bye week there's typically work to do.
But he knows they have a major 3 week road trip coming up after they hopefully hold serve vs Houston.

I started talking jerseys and went off on a tangent but you get the reasons why i'm sure.

Seems like we’re about the same age Todem… Tua throwback was my first jersey that wasn’t a custom personalized one since I was a kid. I got it his rookie year… I’m super happy he’s playing good football and that he and McDrip work so nicely together. His body language is light years away from what it was under Flo.

I‘m enjoying the ride… looking forward to getting into the dance and make a run.

NFL Films has HD edited versions and such but this is the actual telecast as it happened live
No ticker or things to block out part of the precious real estate known as the TV screen

I have no expectations today, hearing Mostert is unavailable, hope they don't go too heavy on Jeff Wilson, big 3 game road trip to follow Houston today.
I know most will assume a blowout, I'll be happy if and when Miami makes it 83 and takes back 1st Place again from Buffalo for the 2nd time this year.
I do expect a lot of Hill and Waddle today after they featured the run. game more the last couple games.

I think that Wilson unlocked the offense the way McD envisioned… a much more balanced attack when both are available.
If Mostert misses do they go back to leaning on Tua? Especially with Stingley out.

Kyle Allen has the physical tools to be a good NFL QB. He had flashes of good play with the Panthers. My prediction: 31-24, Miami.

I'm anticipating Waddle and Hill to do more than they did vs Chicago before the Bye.
Could be one of those games where both go over 100 yds, I'm not anticipating a huge day from Jeff Wilson, no reason to over work him today. Good opp to see what Gaskin and Ahmed have learned in this system.
Sleeper today could be a Miami back up in this game.

about 26 min in is one of the best pressers I’ve ever watched. LOVE MMcD. Taking accountability for putting the team in bad positions and telling his team he’s gonna be better.

Flo almost broke Tua. Y’all can listen to the presser after listening to the broadcast, knowing what happened and make your own judgements.

Awesome graph showing elite play vs both zone and man coverage...https://twitter.com/arjunmenon100/status/1597335802136367105?s=20&t=hEZcnk25epBlReTjyHjfeA

Armstead likely out 2-3 weeks at least
Not good when we are about to play our most difficult 3 week stretch, all on the road.
It definitely will impact what I project when Armstead gave up NO SACKS all season and Miami gave up like 4 in 10 plays when he exited the game, that's not good.

Miami is 8-3, I hope they can find their way to 9-5 before they face the Packers, Patriots and Jets to close the season.
Not a good time to have your OL decimated.
We could be looking at Greg Little at LT and Shell at RT, Liam Eichenberg will be making his way back but he might be done at LG as Robert jones has looked a little better since filling in.
We might have to put Eichenberg at one of the Tackle spots where he set up as a Rookie, uh huh oh I know how you feel
Just wait until Sunday rolls around and Nick Bosa is about to snap Tua into Two
It was a fun ride while it lasted
I just pray we don't sustain another major injury to our starting 22 this Sunday, survive and live to fight the Chargers the week after, they have a much better chance in that game.
Miami can beat San Fran but it will require some turnovers by Jimmy G
