As an update JoeT and I are in about move 39 of a spectacular game. Very much still up in the air - lots of pieces still rolling around. We have been clipping along, but it has been a real brain burner. In fact, I think I will post it as even if I #### it up from here it has been the best game I've put up in these things so far. 40 moves without a complete meltdown is pretty spiffy for me.

Well, at least until I run it through Arena afterward and see how many zillion mistakes I really did make.

As a contrast to Tim's 16 move game, here is the 77 move epic that I played with Joe T. While there were a few mistakes on both sides (fairly minor ones, the game was solid by both the whole way through) I was pretty proud of actually having 5 or 6 moves that a chess engine agree with me. Usually it hovers somewhere around 0. Funny enough during the game I was pretty proud of 29. Bxg7, but the engine said that was far from my best move. Drat.

Well, the result seems to support your garbage hypothesis, and I won't lay a claim to argue with a poster named Kasparov in a chess thread.

Having said that, I've won more than I've lost with that opening - but there are definitely responses that are quite lethal to it. This game is the first that I've ever attempted to fianchetto the black bishop with this opening. Didn't work out so well.
