Handing out business cards.
because.... ?
It's archaic. Oh and dumb. Wasteful too.
we should mind-meld instead?

every job-site or vendor I go to, I'm giving and taking cards. I look forward to the day we beam it phone-to-phone, which is probably soon- but until then this is the best way of giving and taking work-related info that I've seen used at my job sites.

but I'm all ears for a better solution that isn't archaic, dumb and wasteful. that's also available to the people I work with...

The "...you'll never believe what they did next!" "...what they do next will shock you!" links posted all over Facebook.

Willing to wager that less than half of these are really true.

In TV commercials, why is every small business run by a woman one that sells gourmet cupcakes, tortes, chocolate, etc.? It's like the only business idea women can have.

speaking of...

Facebook.
I like Facebook. It's neat to keep up with friends/family, post pictures, etc.

But I've had enough of "friends" that only post things related to their business.

Mainly pyramid schemers and workout morons.

I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt, and I certainly promote my own business on Facebook from time to time (especially during football season), but by no means is it the only reason I'm there.

Acronyms. There are only 26 letters in the alphabet, and it's becoming increasingly hard to figure out WTF*(**) people are talking about.

*BTW, WTF now can mean "What the ####", "Who the ####", "Why the ####", or "Where the ####".

**BTW means "by the way"

Yeah, in my line of work, it's totally out of control. Every new procedure or form has to have an acronym. It's absurd.

Dealing with the public, it's nice to hand them your contact information in a form they recognize. I attach it to all the information they need to get electric. That way, they can start their own file to have to get thru the process. Hardly archaic.
I agree. Many of the people I work with aren't tech savy, it's nice to hand them 1 thing with all my contact info.

let's say they are tech-savy... what method do you use to give them your contact info?

We would likely already be emailing or they would already be on my website, gradebook viewer, mass emails/texts. I'm a teacher so it might be different than most professions.

uh. yeah.

I walk onto a job site, and I'm often meeting guys in varying trades I've never seen before. I'm not going to try to remember the guy's name and/or company type or name and then find him on linkedin. that's what business cards are for.

I imagine normal grownups who's work involves meeting other people exchange business cards. But since it's been brought up in this thread- I'm still trying to find out what the alternative is... I'm happy for Option B.

I wear a hologram projector around my forehead when I go to trade shows. I tell people to scan the QR code that the hologram projector displays. The QR code then opens up my LinkedIn page. Pretty neat.

Selfie sticks. These things are out of control. They were everywhere in London and Paris. People are using them to hold their phone less than the distance of their arms. It's ####### stupid.

Posting memes as replies to anything. It was funny for about a day. Now everyone thinks they're hilarious for posting a picture of a joke that someone else came up with. Hilarious.

Complaining about the weather. All winter people complain about cold weather, then as soon as it gets warm, people complain it's too hot to fast.

Find a city that has your ideal weather, then move there. Otherwise, ShutTFU.

Basically anything that millenials do. I am officially old and bitter.
Maybe it's a generational thing. The millenials are grandchildren-age to me and I think they're a pretty ok bunch, if not particularly nuanced. It's the Gen Xers that I want to smack.

Attempting to justify why you're saying no when asked for a donation at the cash register.

"I was in a couple days ago and donated"

"I gave at the other store"

"I give to ___ charity instead"

Just say no. No one cares.

Clicking on a news article to read it and having a video automatically play.

I don't want to watch a video and I don't want to be surprised by audio blaring out of my speakers, I want to read the article.
