I think so.
I really think he thought he was doing the right thing, and it really won't take much to turn the PR tide on this one when he goes the profuse apology/education/counseling route.

I'm serious. An analogy is insufficient. She's a civil rights lawyer who represents people in disputes. Some of those clients and cases are high profile. Others are not. What specifically has she done to merit the criticism I questioned?
She makes my skin crawl.
She is an attention-seeking whore, that goes far beyond zealous representation of her clients.
You want to like her - fine with me. For me, :shudders:, I will continue to immediately assume I hate her clients (or more specifically, their position), no matter their case, as soon as I hear she is on board.

I've meet Gloria Allred . She's a sweet old lady; couldn't be nicer. It's true that like many celebrity lawyers, she seeks publicity- but that's of value to her clients because she wins more money that way.
She has done tremendous good work, in particular, hundreds of hours of pro bono representing rape and abuse victims. To put her in the category of Sharpton is absurd .

I don't like her or hate her. I've litigated cases against her firm and I've met her. She was fine in our interactions. As for being an attention-seeking whore, she's in good company among media types and lawyers alike. As for going far beyond zealous representation of her clients, do you have specific examples? Or is your "#### her, she's one of the most vile people on earth" take based primarily on the skin crawl factor? I'm honestly curious. She may very well be vile and I'm open to hearing you make the case. Most of the cases that I'm familiar with, I find myself sympathetic to her clients, or ambivalent at worst. But I don't pretend to be entirely knowledgable about the various clients she's represented over the years.

Its just the way she will interject herself into the middle of things - I had no idea about her press conference today, but it is a perfect example where she has no specific client engaging the NFL right now, but she wants to be in the middle of the media fire storm.
I get the sense that she takes on clients for the publicity sake - admittedly I don't see her work on legit pro bono cases, and if she does that - good for her, but if she takes a pro bono case for the publicity, or opportunity to grandstand, then she loses all pro bono credits with me. Count me as dubious about her role in pro bono cases.
I don't like any lawyer that grandstands for the purpose of seeking attention. Good lawyers don't need to do that.

I find her dragging Brandon Marshall through the mud years after the alleged incident disgusting. If she was representing the victim in some action against either Marshall or the NFL I could understand it, but she's not. She's doing it simply for media whore attention. That makes it vile, IMO.

I don't think any of those words apply based on the article quoted above. She's shining a light on a prior example of an issue that is very much relevant to the debate over the NFL's handling of these issues and trying to bring about positive change. And it sounds like she had some prior involvement in that issue, or is representing or assisting family members who were involved who wish to speak out. It sounds like her message was one shared by countless people who have spoken publicly on this. But again, I haven't seen the press conference itself. Maybe she was vile after all.

Not really. You asked for an example. I gave you ONE. There are numerous others. You also said she "represented" people and I was showing you that in many of her media attention whore spectacles she's not representing anyone at all. But you have your opinion. I have mine. They just differ.

I get people not liking her. That makes sense to me. But not liking someone doesn't make that person one of the most vile people in the world, even taking hyperbole into account. I just wondered if there was something I was missing. It's been a long time since I've litigated against her.

Didn't she appear with some family members? Are you certain she wasn't representing them in the appearance? She may have also appeared at the request of the woman who didn't want to appear herself and Gloria played it off so as not to involve her directly. I don't know.

Yeah, I should really just watch the press conference. In any event, I just thought it odd that a woman who represents battered women would be the subject of such hostility in a thread where we are discussing guys who are beating women and children.

I'm really surprised this hasn't turned racial by now...
When the league was considering penalizing the "n word" after the Incognito debacle...players came out saying it was white owners trying to control the way black players talk/culture.
We've got to be overdue for that chestnut on these latest disciplinary measures.

Watching the press conference now. It seems to be pretty relevant to what is going on today. She appeared with two individuals who tried to raise these issues with Goodell and got nowhere. And the woman who appeared was not only Watley's best friend but was herself a victim.
Edit: The dad had specific issues about the inadequacy of the investigation by the NFL, namely that they concluded the investigation without bothering to make contact with the victim, her attorney, any of her family members, or any witnesses to the abuse. The issue is the seriousness (or lack thereof) with which the NFL investigates and handles these situations. Seems pretty relevant.

Marshall was acquitted of those charges - what was Goodell supposed to do? Pretty sure the NFL did mandate some counseling for some of Marshalls issues - and he seems to have turned his life around
Also funny that the NFL is being browbeaten into disciplining players, while a federal judge is arrested for domestic violence, and carries on as if nothing happened, waiting for the process to play out in court of law.
I guess its ok for rich white guys to beat their wives, but not black athletes...

According to the people at the press conference, Goodell should have properly investigated the complaints, which I believe were raised prior to the criminal trial and went beyond the scope of the issues in the trial. Have you watched the press conference? It's an interesting and informative watch, even if you're already inclined to dislike the individuals simply because of who is sitting at the table with them. In any event, whether you believe their testimony about the shoddy investigation and inadequate response, there's no doubt that it is relevant to the issues at hand, namely how the NFL has approached issues of domestic violence.

Unfortunately, the process of removing a federal judge from the bench (impeachment) may take longer than getting him tried and convicted. There was a federal judge down here in Texas that ended up going to prison for charged related to sexual assault against two female subordinates. A lot of those judges think they are untouchable, but occasionally the bad ones do get smacked down by the long arm of the law.
