All Android/Google All the Time (1 Viewer)

Does it work if she goes through Google assistant?  Like if she has maps closed and says, "OK Google.  Navigate to ...."
hm i'll try this next.  Outside of the basics I haven't had time to take a deep dive.

Sometimes if the walking route works but the car doesn't

Try another map app like waze to see if a similar problem occurs.  If it does, there is probably a location or gps setting that is borked. If it works in Waze, that should narrow it down to an app issue and not a setting issue.

Moved last week and switched to T-Mobile as Sprint service sucked so bad. Kicked TING to the curb and got a really sweet deal with T-Mobile. Two lines Unlimited for $70

Also bought two new phones. Samsung Galaxy J7 Star. Anyone have any experience with this phone? So far so good, lightening fast and the service has been outstanding.

Waze works fine.  More info. If I open up chrome, go to Google maps, type address, chrome then asks to open app or stay in browser, I click open app everything works.

Bonus. If I start in the app it can find walking, bike, and public transportation routes, just not driving

:wall:

Try and download an earlier version of Google maps.
I sure wish it was easier to to this with many apps.

I've used the paid version of the "Pocket Casts" app for years now and it worked perfectly well for my needs. In the past month or two they have "upgraded" an app that was working perfectly well and now the "new and improved" interface has me pulling my hair out.

Now I'm looking for a new free podcast app. If they are just going to ruin it after you have already paid for it there is no reason to pay for another one.

Check out APKmirror for an older version

Pocket Cast completely borked their app

I just don't understand how anyone could think that update was a good idea. It went from being such a clean, efficient, easy to use, popular app to none of those things just like that.

My wife and I use CastBox and like it.  It's free.  As a side note, I had the same kind of experience a few years ago when iOS changed their podcast app.  What had been so easy and intuitive became a mess overnight. Couldn't stand it.

I don't find the new version horrible, but agree that it is a big step backward.

I like Podcast Addict

$250 for original Pixel is a good deal.  I am still using this device since it came out and haven't had any problems.  It's the 2nd HTC device I have owned since the EVO, and I think they were both incredible pieces of hardware compared to the competition at their respective times.  This device still carries it's weight, and works great for heavy usage.  It's not top of the line, but i haven't had any need to upgrade yet.  I'm hoping to hold out for the 4th gen and give this to my kid.

Great option for someone on a budget, a casual user that wanted a good camera, elderly, a kid, or for a home media control /extra device.

Had to ditch Pocket Cast and am now limping along with Google Play.  I believe Pocket Cast was bought by NPR.  Tempted to cancel my $10 monthly contribution to my local affiliate until they bring back the old version.

if anyone is planning on picking up the new Pixel 3a or 3a XL be sure to check out the Best Bbuy promotion before pulling the trigger.  Their $100 gift card is a much better deal than the Google Store one.  (Plus BB has a couple nice carrier discounts)

I caved and ordered the 3a.  My original XL has been a great phone but at $399 and $100 off Google store I couldn't pass up.  My wife has wanted the hub thing so I I got on the wait list for the home max.

Congrats on the new device.  I think I'm one of the only remaining original Pixel fbgs.

My pixel is down to about an hour of battery life...even less if I deign to take pictures. So we're going in a pixel 3 or likely 3a.

That best buy promotion...just for buying the phone or do I have to get new service, additional lines, etc?

$100 gift card just for buying the phone. I have mine already. The unlocked phone arrives tomorrow.

There are other price discounts if you choose to activate on a carrier. For example, if you activate a new line on Sprint the phone is only $299 and you still get the $100 gift card.

I'm interested in hearing user reviews on the Pixel3a. I'm not really a latest&greatest type person but I wonder if the snapdragon670 is a noticeable step back from 845. I don't have a device with the 855.

Isn't the regular pixel 3 like $400 off right now

Edit: NM that deal is done

Anyone else have a s10+? Looking at getting one to replace an s7.  Yeah it's been awhile.  Was also looking at the s10 5g but I don't see much of a difference between that and the s10+? Any opinions would be great

I'm interested in how Google's new privacy options work out. I've been planning on ditching Android and going iOS for a number of reasons, but Google giving easier control over privacy/data options could convince me to give them a bit more time.

Ultimately though, the inability to get security updates on a regular basis outside of buying a Pixel and the fact that Google is an advertising company at its heart leaves me still leaning towards ditching it and going iOS.

My wife updated from s7 to 10+.

She loves it but she's not overly technical

Really like my s9 but... Samsung SUCKS at pushing out security updates.. Still stuck on January update and work won't let me connect again until I update to April's patch...

I have an unlocked phone and spent an hour with Samsung trying to update.. At the end he said "sorry your hardware doesn't support the update yet..

WTF?.. 1 year old phone but not good enough for security updates...yet..maybe next month....

Going to visit a T-Mobile store this week to check in on their trade-in deals for the pixel 3a as they update almost as soon as the patch is released.

If you plan on using the S10 as long as you did the S7 you may as well wait for the 5g version.

Unlocked Samsung phones are notorious for being last in line for updates.

P.S. I think the T-Mo trade in value for an S9 is $400

ETA: you don't need that update as much as you think you do.

Unfortunately for work I do.. On May 6th they locked out all phones not running the April security patch...  So, my choice is to get a phone like Pixel that gets updates..

Or keep my Samsung S9 for personal use, and work will buy an iPhone for me but for work only.. Not really in the mood to carry 2 cell phones around all the time.

Having carried 2 phones (iphone for work, android personal) for 4 years... avoid at all costs.

I went from the OG Pixel XL to the S10+. Love it. The extra screen real estate is a nice change.

There is something specific about that patch, right?  They are not going to make you be that current going forward, are they?  That severely limits your Android options if so.

The policy here states that the patch level has to be within 90 days. But Samsung has dragged their heels so long on releasing anything after January's patch to all devices, my device is behind..

If the February, or March's patches would show up I'd be OK.. but with my luck, Samsung will push me the Feb. update in the next week, only to be "Out of service" on June 1st...

Being as we are with T-Mobile, and they are running trade-in deal of $400 for the Galaxy S9 to get the Pixel 3A, I probably will do that and be done with Samsung's delay. :bye:

Only use my phone for calls, text's, and some apps along with work(O365 stuff) so don't need the top of the line.

What do your coworkers/IT dept use? Just get what they have to avoid the headaches.

Does the Pixel 3 have dual sim trays?

Most use iphones.. Not about to spend that amount for personal use, and don't feel like carrying around 2 cell phones. Pixel 3a, with the trade-in deal going on with t-mobile seems like the best/cheapest way around it.

btw- the rapid decline of my pixel 1 continues apace... I typically have morning site-meetings to review ongoing projects under construction- phone's been on for maybe an hour. after 2 or 3 photos, the phone decides it's had enough and shuts off. sucking all remaining battery with it, no matter how much was left. without a backup and cord, I'm done.

this morning, I had to go to a vendor, so used google maps. the phone didn't like that one bit. NO PHONE FOR YOU. I had been at around 90% battery... sucked to bupkis.

that new 3A can't get here fast enough. a co-worker just got one... looks ok. it's supposed to be a faster processor than the pixel 1... hoping that's the case.

That's what happened to me. Not as bad but similar. But I got the 3 xl

I'm in the same boat as you with the pixel 1, although I haven't noticed the battery drain.  I'm hoping the 3a is a noticeable upgrade.  It will be worth the camera alone yo me imo.  Plus, my kid can use the original Pixel, which still takes great photos.  I'm also looking forward to going from a pixel XL to a "smaller" device again.

waiting for our pixel 3As to arrive.

I'll let you know how it goes.

They have a regular size too  :P
WRONG

Serious question - are you guys going to the 3A because of the price and not the 3?
yes. flat out. saving 800ish dollars on the two.

eta: I'm also not doing much on my phone more than pictures/video, email, internet and a couple of travel/dining apps. so I'm not sure I need the faster processor, even though it would be nice.

I, conversely, think that the OnePlus 7 Pro is foxy AF.
I watched a few unboxing/review videos. I like 95% of it's features.
Snapdragon 855
in-screen fingerprint unlock is crazy fast
Night mode camera
warp charging with giant battery

I just can't get on board with the pop-up selfie camera, it might be the reason it's not IP rated.
I'll happily take the teardrop notch.
And I've been spoiled with wireless charging. I just really want that in my next phone.
I wish it had a headphone jack too.
