Are you a Costco member? What do you buy for your household? (2 Viewers)

Is CostCo worth it as just a single person??
If I was single and no kids... yes.

The vast majority of stuff we get is not perishable or at least lasts a long time. So the bulk isn't as much of an issue. There would be somethings I would not get that we do regularly now just because I wouldn't finish it as one person before it goes back but most stuff I would still get but not as much or frequently as I do now with the family. Plus, things like getting a deal on a dryer or something that you may not think of Costco for but is really a great option to buy.

For sure. I'll take it a step further and say it's also smart to be an executive member. It's an additional 65 bucks a year so 135 total a year. Gets you 2% back each year on Costco purchases. Doesn't take long to break even. Get the Costco credit card and they give 5% back on Costco gas purchases. We keep the Costco card in a drawer for entire family to use for gas. Stuff pays for itself really.

I have never had a Costco membership, as it's too far from my house to reasonably get there frequently enough to make a difference.

It's about 9 miles as the crow flies, but realistically at least minutes away in city traffic. It just isn't feasible. Meanwhile, I have an ALDI, Target, Sprouts, Publix, Trader Joes and a local grocery store all within about 5 minutes from where I live. That covers 98% of what I would go to Costco for anyway. I think.

I buy 2 things a year from Costco don't have an executive membership but their CC is so worth it in my opinion...... I'm on pace to get $1400 back this year

Yea, you are getting 4% back with the card o. Every Costco trip. 2% on the Executive Card and 2% on CC.

I've said it a few ties, if you plan to get gas there, gas alone pays for the membership and then some.
Everything else is a bonus in my eyes.
The two closest ones are not that convenient for me. Both are about 10 miles each and at least a 25 or 30 minute drive. I'd really need to make a commitment to go there every other week or something to make it work out.

are you putting your mortgage and car payments on the thing?
Doesn't take long at all. Gas alone is 5%.
$1400 is still...a lot. We use it for gas (5% there, 4% elsewhere), store (2%), and restaurants (3%) when we don't have a 5% option on another card. We're north of $500 now and will probably finish the year ~$700. Even if we used it for travel (although we don't travel much out of the region) I can't imagine it'd bridge much of that remaining gap.

That said, I wonder if bell uses it for everything, not just the best perks I noted above. Our total cash back across all cards is near $2K right now and will probably finish close to $2500. We bypass using the Costco card for everything else (1%) because we have both a 2% card (our default card) and others with rotating 5% promos.

True the gas does get you an extra 1% when buying from costco using the citi card so that would eat into some of that membership cost. Not sure if there's other gas cards out there that get you the same 5% or more from other stations. Also depends on alternative station prices. I find costco to be right at the top.

At least for my location, Costco gas is generally 20 plus cents less per gallon then anywhere else around. It's just another leverage point they use to get you to their store. I'm getting cheap gas, so might as well buy a few things inside. Then when your inside you blink and your down 300, but you also got a full tank of gas. Ha ha

Yeah he probably does. We do the same - pay every bill with it that we can and then just pay it off each month.

We routinely get back $1200 - $1500 a year. Free money.

If it can be charged it's charged. Unless the fee is jacked up for lunch or something

Car insurance, Internet, streamers, gas, tolls. vacations, car repairs etc

What does boost us a little is my wife plans a long weekend every year for a large group so we put the 10k on our card so that's good for a couple hundred bucks

But yes I have one card and everything is charged for the month that I can

We don't travel a lot but any trip we do take I just put on that card and it adds up 3% travel
