As great as Peyton is he just seems to have a problem playing the Pats in Foxboro. Which reminds me, why the heck does it always seem to play out that way in the schedule year after year?

And with that beat down, the Patriots are the #1 seed in the AFC, with the tie breaker over Denver. Incredible turnaround. I'll be the first to admit I was dead wrong about Brady being cooked. He looked awesome today. Larry and Fred were right - all he needed was time in the pocket.

Lets be honest though, you give any good quarterback time in the pocket and they will pick you apart. Just like if you pressure any great quarterback he will fold up most of the time. This seems to be constant throughout the NFL. I am not sure why more teams don't build a great offensive and defensive line first.

First game I've seen this year where the refs let the receivers get mugged. Props to the Patsies for the aggressive game plan and execution. And fans, please don't temper your enthusiasm and insufferableness...it makes the reality of what will happen if you reach the playoffs that much more fun for the rest of us

here's a take that I agree with from a Broncos forum that I frequent:
Man, the NFL is tough. I mean DEN just got embarrassed by NE in NE again. They had 10 days to plan and work on certain issues. And, it meant absolutely nothing in the end
I am so frustrated with the inability of this organization to compete, let alone win, on the road versus Quality opposition. The job is to win every game you can as an Owner, Coach, Player, and Staff. We as fans KNOW you are not likely to win every game you play. What we struggle with is a lack of preparation and competing on the road. That is your damn job!
Again, I could post my whole thoughts on this all over or just come to the simple realization that this Staff is ok with getting whupped by good teams on the road. Believe it or not, to some coaches this is just a job. What is important, just like politics, is keeping your job. And, this is a great Job! Peyton Manning almost Guarantees a winning season for the coaches and most likely a playoff birth as well. That helps coaches take some pressure off. However, I fail to see any hunger whatsoever in this staff when it comes to preparation, game planning, innovation, and situational awareness.
Unfortunately, sometimes you run into a staff that actually gives a crap about beating the team they are facing and are willing to do what it takes to do just that. That is why a team like NE is always going to be hard to beat at home. I hate NE, but a long time ago I posted how much I respected their coaching staff for all their hard work and innovation on defense. Hell, some OM'ers even lableled me a NE apologist and called me out for it! The fact of the matter is I respect how hard the NE guys work and are always willing to take risks to win. This is something this staff seems unwilling to even contemplate versus good teams on the road where something extra is usually required to manufacture a win.
What I will say is this, get used to this. DEN strongly resembles INDY West and the staff is absolutely going with the let Peyton bail us out time and time again effort. I would not be surprised if everyone on the staff simply went home early the last 10 days since they had extra preparation time for the game. This team was NOT ready for anything NE threw at them last night. Just watch the LB's and DB's faces and expressions when they routinely blow assignments and coverages on defense. Watch the OL fail to manage repeated A gap pressure schemes at all and fail to get any movement at all in the run game. Watch Peyton get confused with the rolling coverages off the blitzes and the WR's fail to gain separation versus press coverage. Watch the punter drop the ball, almost get the punt blocked, and then the Outside containment lose patience and give up a cheap TD.
"Not Too Shabby" Den fans. Nothing more needs to be said.

That's quite refreshing to see coming from a Broncos fan, instead of the usual refs/"Cheatriots" type stuff most fans tend to start spouting after a loss like that. The past few years it almost seems to me that when teams have longer to gameplan, they play worse for some reason. I don't specifically mean the Broncos in general, because it's happened to multiple teams.

no, I firmly pin this loss on coaching. The schemes, offensively and defensively, were atrocious. Just terrible. It was completely obvious that Denver came out, expecting their same stuff to work against NE, and NE was ready for all of that.
John Fox is not a gamer. He just isn't. I think he's a fantastic player development coach, but as far as devising a game plan and managing a game, well, he leaves lots to be desired. Kudos to the Pats on a big win, I just hope Fox can get his #### together before we play again in January.

The biggest difference at any position between the teams is head coach...and it matters a lot.

Agreed. The Broncos looked outmatched in just about every area yesterday, and when your whole team looks like that, it comes down to coaching. Simply put, Belichick outcoached circles around him yesterday. The Broncos have yet to play a good 60 minutes on the road this year.

It does stink having to play in Foxboro all the damn time, and then losing there, and many need to blame someone. The Broncos didn't play well, and the Pats caused a lot of that. But too many are flying off the rails, here.
It seems to me that often times Broncos' fans are unwilling to blame Manning. He's a phenomenal QB. He's not great at rallying the troops. Maybe it's not his job, or we can't expect one man to do everything, or whatever - but when things go wrong, and then things go right for the opponent, then I just don't see our team with the confidence of knowing "Manning will lead us back". If Manning had the spirit of Luck on the sidelines, then he would be Jesus risen, but he doesn't. And I think it hurts our team sometimes. But it's one flaw in an almost perfect QB. We are fine, and we can win with this team as is.
We are 6-2. We lost to last years Super Bowl champs in OT, when most of our defense was new to their positions and still gelling. We lost to the Pats in Foxboro. Are we really that surprised? Don't get me wrong, it irks me too, and I hate that Larry and others of his ilk have the upper hand (again), but he's right, and it sure as #### ain't the coaching staff's fault alone. Our D has been great. Our O has been great. Our morale when things start going "bad" has been not so great.
The "frontrunners" part is way off base, though. I think most of us here suffered through those Super Bowl loses in the past, and still hung around. Other than that, I agree with old Larry.

I've suffered through 55-10 against the 9ers, the Montana MNF comeback, the devastating upset to the Jags and 43-8 to Seattle earlier this year, so I am good to go as a fan. You just hate to see the whole team play like they did the other day. I can handle losing games, even to the Patriots, but it's just frustrating to see the coaching staff seemingly not having the team ready to play in a big game on the road.

But the other thing is that the rest of the team seems to sit back and say, ok, Peyton is going to have to dig us out of this. There's a leadership void at other positions, which is partly due to the other players, partly coaching and partly manning not being very good at delegating, imo.
When you hear the pats talk about humble pie, they're not kidding. They stopped this week and said great win, but seven wins doesn't get you anything in the nfl . Every week they act like they're playing the broncos. when they lose, they get a double serving of humble pie, which is part of how they go from the Chiefs blowout to the Bengals blowout. That's coaching, but it's also Brady and the locker room.
If manning could be a part of that I think he'd be a lot more successful. Instead he's kind of like that pitcher who destroys weak hitting teams but gets crushed against good teams and in the playoffs.

I'm not talking about this game. I'm not trying to predict whether they win the superbowl. I'm talking about Manning over the course of his career. He's a leader, but I think there's a gap in his leadership style, and something hoss said reminded me of it. It was actually part of the reason Brady got the job over Bledsoe - when the team got down, everyone used to look at drew to see what he would do to win this. But with Brady in the huddle, he looked at them and said we all need to do this, what are you going to do.
Parcells used to say that if you give a man an excuse to lose, he'll take it. Oh, manning has a bad day. You can see the "manning face" and you can see the whole team around him deflate. Brady doesn't give up. He gets frustrated, he gets pissy, but he's relentlessly competitive and he gets pissed when his teammates aren't, too.

Brady is easily the better QB, and it's not even close. We've got the other thread for that though..
So what if these two teams do meet up again in January and it's in Denver, will the Pats be able to win on the road? The next few weeks we'll get a better picture of how this team plays legit contenders on the road, but I'm just curious as to what everyone thinks.

I would agree with this, as well. Of course we are all just speculating - only the team knows - but it seems that someone else needs to step up to get the team refocused when things start to wobble on the tracks.
