***Buffalo at Kansas City*** (-1.5) 54u Mr Allen, Mr Mahomes, gentlemen...START...YOUR...ENGINES!!! (1 Viewer)

Marino was pretty good.  Disgruntled dolphins fan here.
Bills play in a division with 3 rebuilding teams. The advantage the Pats had for so long is the advantage the Bills will have for a few years.

no truly easy outs in football, but every playoffs is another chance at the prize. And in a division they can go 4-2 or 5-1 against NEP, NYJ & MIA, they should have plenty of opportunity. They have a young core of talented players. I believe in their talent.

Yeah, it’s funny because non-Bills fans seem more upset about the overtime rules than Bills fans. Obviously I wish that the Bills had win the toss or had another chance, but the defense had to make a stop at some point and they just didn’t. And if you can’t make a stop when the opponent has it on their one 25 with 13 seconds left, then whining about overtime rules and that you didn’t get a shot is dumb.

Can't we whine about both?

Blew two leads inside two minutes and gave up 10 points, and then didn't even come close to making a stop in OT.  Someone should get fired.  I don't know who.

We need to hope Frazier gets hired because I don’t see McDermott letting him go. But he should if he was in charge of the D at the end.

I'm not sure why it would be called "whining" when it's mostly non-Bills fans.  I would consider that objective criticism.  I am a Dolphins' fan so certainly no love for the Bills here, and watching them get screwed gives me a bit of a tickle, but it is still a silly rule.  I have nothing to "whine" about.  A KC win was my preferred outcome.

I hate the common "if they hadn't <insert some screw-up> then the game never would have come down to that <insert unfair rule/bad call>".  Teams screw up all the time.  That doesn't mean they should still have a fair shake to play out the rest of the game.  If a team blows a 14 point lead and the game is now tied you can't just have the ref blow the whistle and award the game to the other team and then say "oh well they if they hadn't blown that 14 point lead then that never would have happened".  Obviously hyperbole but you get the point.  Teams come back from screw-ups all the time, so taking a team's opportunity to do so away from them is no more silly then calling the game over with 13 seconds left and saying "well the Chiefs shouldn't have given up that quick TD or this wouldn't matter".

And that leads to the other point.  The Chief's defense was equally unable to make a stop down the stretch.  So why do we say for the Bills' "well they should have just made a stop at some point" but not for the Chiefs?  Because of a coin toss?  That's dumb.

Not sure if it was talked about earlier but why would you ever punt to Tyreek Hill in that situation...why...just kick it out of bounds where he can't hurt you...that was an awful coaching decision.

Just play an entire 12 minute quarter.  If it's still tied play another 10 minute quarter.  If anyone is still alive then play a sudden death quarter.
Players would never go for this. I think giving each team one possession and sudden death from there is fair and will eventually happen.

Only twice in NFL playoff history has a QB thrown for 300 and 4 TDs, and run for 60+ yards.  Josh Allen last week, and Josh Allen this week.

I think you're missing the point; whomever team gets the ball first... THE DEFENSE NEEDS TO MAKE A STOP. I don't care if it's the Chiefs, the Bills, the Fighting Illini, the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, or Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson; you have a separate unit that is coached up and makes a lot of money. Go out there and make the opposing offense punt... or even better, do this.

Really brutal for Buffalo not to get a shot in OT, but let’s not go totally off the rails and implement the college rules. College OT isn’t even football. Just tweak it to allow both teams to touch the ball and be done with it.

I like soccer rules.  Play it out.

Well you guys are one of the classiest fan bases around.  You guys aren't making excuses for you defense and actually are kind of beating them up a little too much given KC's defense was probably worse.  Us non Bills fans just wanted to see Josh with the ball one more time.

I'm fine with just playing out the entire OT period like someone else suggested.

You da man!  Didn't it used to be this way in post season when I was a kid?

Well 10 guys have been posting here how you should kick it to him with 13 seconds left instead of kicking it out of the end zone.

really feel for the Bills. feel strongly they need to change OT rules in the playoffs to college rules. losing because of a coin toss just sucks
Do people just no longer consider defense part of the game? The Bills had the #1 ranked defense. Get a three and out, two first downs, and they could win on a FG.

No argument there.   It certainly gives them some advantage at least for a couple of years.   The Pats situation was really an anomaly to be that good and to have your division mates be that bad for so long.  I wouldn't necessarily right off the Pats either.   Its not like the Bills even dominated their division this year.

I felt like the Pats won with bubble gum & spit this year. They were a fraud. I’m unconvinced that they have a QB of the future.

wow, Cheifs open at -7 at one of my books against Cincy. they look good, but should be a competitive game

Here’s a stat. Two playoff performances ever with a Qb getting 300+ passing, 60+ rushing and 4+ TDs. Allen last week and Allen this week.

Any chance he can play defence next year?!

Curious - why didn’t the Bills squib kick? Wouldn’t that have knocked another 3-4 seconds off?
Might sacrifice field position... clock doesn't start until its touched.  So the trade-off is probably not worth it.  A regular kick, around the 5, could have taken 3-4 seconds off the clock and not left time for a FG attempt.

It's all hindsight though... with just 13 seconds you're not really too worried.  Credit to Mahomes and company.

The appropriate OT rule is each team gets the ball once at minimum then sudden death from there
BUF already had 9 possessions. KC had 10. The goal should be to end the game and break the tie. I always felt they should just continue the game from the point where the game ended, just like they do between quarters. First score wins. No kick off to start OT.

It was sudden death until 2010 when it was changed to sudden victory only for a TD on the first drive of one time. The overtime period was shortened from 15 min to 10 min in 2017 in the name of player safety.

Obviously, there are no ties in the playoff, so additional 10 minute periods would be played in the event of a still-tied game. I like the sudden victory sudden death for a TD aspect of the current rules, which encourage aggressive offense.

.774 completion percentage. 9 TDs. 0 INTs. 149 passer rating. 637 yards passing. 134 yards rushing. And it wasn’t enough to get passed the 2nd round.

Exactly what I said about that game manger Brady 3 decades ago.

Was the last game at KC?

If Davis posts half a hundie FF points, Chase may socre triple digits.

After I watched the Veg/Lac Sunday nighter a few weeks back where Herbert completed 6 fourth downs to keep the Chargers playoff hopes alive I said to myself wow I don’t think I’ll see a game that exciting for awhile.

…… boy was I wrong.

Allen is fantastic…..but it is still incredibly hard man. You just don’t know.
I know. I’m a 49ers fan. I was a teen during the Montana / Young era. I watched a dynasty. Then I’ve spent decades watching also-rans & heartbreaking losses like to KC in the SB when our DC didn’t blitz on 3rd & 27 when the Niners had the lead & should have had the ball back.

Or against the Ravens when Kaep ran ran ran down the field, then our team tried to throw it 4 straight times into the end zone.

It’s really hard.

But it really helps when your team is positioned to be great for a while in a soft division. I’m not guaranteeing anything, but the Bills are for real. Y’all have a lot to be happy about as soon as you get over this crushing loss.

This would eliminate much end of the game drama and strategy.

I was around for that too. Brady >>>>>> Jones.

I was not down on Brady - he was my sleeper the next year & I snagged him in the 8th or 9th round. That was one of my easiest LCG appearances.

You guys have short memories.

I honestly believes this happens more often than a team dring 50 yards in 13 seconds and then kicking a field goal.

Want another? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCa3YMd7f88

College version? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDgedP8FIrk
Your three links are a) a play commonly referred to as a "miracle" which also featured what was most likely a forward pass, b) a play on which an offensive lineman returned a kickoff 70 yards, and c) an onside kick (not sure what that has to do with this discussion at all). And that's your evidence that squib kicks are more likely to be successful?
