F it, I like the guy even though he's old.Champ Bailey, CB
With a guy like Wayne already off the board, I think this pick is fine. He should have another couple of solid seasons left in him. I can't afford to take advantage of the old guys falling since I already have guys like Peyton, Peppers and Gross.
I figured I could afford it and need the veteran presence with two rookie DBs - Vaccaro and Rhodes, can learn from him.

Just fyi - I do not want PMs. They're useless. If I get onto FBG, I'm checkin this thread. The only thing that's going to give me a heads up is a text.

Please do not send PMs, they're just a pain in the ### to go delete and delay my pick.

Pierce is a nice player ....buy brings up the same question when Coisins was selected.....

How can we accurately rate backup players ??

Seems impossible .

14.10 WR Anquan Boldin

Would prefer to wait but it's a long way back. Prefer to play him in the slot but we will see what is available later. Also one of the top blockers so should be another asset to the run game as well.

:shrug:How do you evaluate any of the players that haven't even played a down of NFL football ??
But we assume most of those players drafted will get major playing time and start ......few won't .We know Cousins and such are backups when picked ...that's the difference.Always fun to revisit the teams a few years down the road .

Picking these teams is tough because ideally you pick solely on what makes your team best in this hypothetical situation. However, I can't help but be a little biased to choosing players who will produce in reality and should produce in reality for years to come. If we look back at this on 3 years, we will of course use the results in what happened in reality to judge the teams. However, in this alternate reality, maybe the results would be different for players.

For example, maybe in 3 years Josh Freeman is out of this league due to poor play. However, in the alternate universe we are drafting in, maybe he becomes a star with Calvin, Wallace, and Tavon Austin to throw to.

Great point.

+1. :goodposting:

Following up on the post, I think this potential difference is only significant affect with young players who are not established and have not reached (or have clearly not failed to reach) close to their potential. This difference is caused by difference in coaching and scheme in the two realities. I used Josh Freeman as an example in my last post because his situation in these two universes are so different.

With established players, while coaching/scheme differences may matter some, in most cases it won't greatly affect the perception of the player. Fitz is obviously a huge talent and despite being on a horrible Arizona offense, he is universally considered a top receiver in the game. On the other end of the spectrum, Alex Smith had great success in 2011 with the 49ers and almost took the team to the SB. Nobody will deny he played well within the system but Smith was put in a good position to succeed and had clear limitations.

Not if we go 53 rounds.

14.12 Cincinnati Bengals select Arthur Brown, LB

The rangy K-State senior linebacker answered a lot of questions this offseason measuring over 240 lbs and running the 40 under 4.6. I think he compares favorably to some of last year's rookie linebackers like Luke Keuchly, Lavonte David, and Bobby Wagner. He'll be a great fit for this multiple defense, playing inside or weakside in the 4-3 and inside in the 3-4.

Offense

1.12 QB Matt Ryan

6.12 RB Arian Foster

3.21 WR Michael Crabtree

11.21 TE Greg Olsen

2.21 LT Ryan Clady

8.12 LG Andy Levitre

12.12 RG Zane Beadles

Defense

4.12 DL Corey Liuget

5.21 DL Carlos Dunlap

7.21 DE/OLB Dion Jordan

9.21 DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo

14.12 LB Arthur Brown

10.12 CB Vontae Davis

13.21 FS Stevie Brown

Favorably to Kuechly? I happen to like Brown, strongly considered him for the Titans a few picks ago, but he's not predicted to be a better player than Kuechly was.

14.13 Patriots Select Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama

I had my sites set on John Jenkins later in the draft. When I saw Big John go before Jesse Williams, I knew it was the time to grab this guy. Has played DE and NT in the 3-4 at the college level. Seems like an ideal 3-4 guy who can play the Nose or the 5 technique and can also play on nickel packages.

The Patriots

Eli Manning

Desean Jackson

Stevie Johnson

Jimmy Graham

DBrickashaw Ferguson

Mitchell Schwartz

Donald Thomas

Jesse Williams

Justin Houston

Bruce Irvin

Lance Briggs

Asante Samuel

Corey Webster

Bernard Pollard

I meant that he compares similar to him, not better. Maybe I used the wrong phrasing.

3 rookies on D with really no established vet. Don't see how you will compete. Nice offense though.

Year one, if this were a real league, I agree. Building for the future, he has potential to dominate. Also depends how you want to look at the teams; it's entirely possible that all 3 of his rookies become pro-bowlers and his D looks dominant on paper while if they were to play together, they'd struggle for years.

:goodposting: I'm also not nearly done on defense. Plenty of spots still open for veteran leaders. I have lots of guys on my board who fit that bill.

3 rookie LBs & an out of place Dunlap in a 34 works in fantasy football but not in real life

14.14 Oakland Raiders Select Kerry Rhodes, Safety

Little surprised that this guy's still available since he's not that old and still one of the better safeties in the NFL IMO. He and another player are at the top of my BPA board, but I decided to draft Rhodes since I haven't drafted one safety yet. Should also give this team a veteran presence in the secondary.

QB - Peyton Manning

RB - Doug Martin

WR - Julio Jones

WR - Denarius Moore

TE - Dustin Keller

OT - Jordan Gross

OG - Chris Snee

OT - Donald Penn

DE - Julius Peppers

DE - Da'Quan Bowers

OLB - Ahmad Brooks

CB - Prince Amukamara

CB - Aqib Talib

S - Kerry Rhodes

14.15 Cardinals select Larry Warford, G

We've got a nice run on rookies going so who am I to mess that up? Never saw this guy play but from what I've read he sounds like a pretty safe prospect at G. His NFL comparisons have been Yanda and Waters so I figure that can't be too bad.

Offense:

6.15 Jason Peters, LT

7.18 Rodger Saffold, RT

9.18 Brian De La Puente, C

10.15 Cecil Shorts, WR

11.18 Keenan Allen, WR

14.15 Larry Warford, RG

Defense:

1.15 Geno Atkins, RE

2.18 Muhammad Wilkerson, LE

3.18 Daryl Washington, ILB

4.15 Ryan Kerrigan, OLB

5.18 Brandon Carr, CB

8.15 Star Lotulelei, NT

12.15 Thomas DeCoud, FS

13.18 Reggie Nelson, SS

1. Not running a 3-4 all the time2. Talented/young players trumps experienced players in the NFL, see all the vets being released this offseason
That's probably more because of the rookie wage scale and veteran salaries that are higher than a player's market value. I don't think that applies as much in this format.

Check out the Houston and Dallas tabs on the google doc; I made some changes to the layout to make it look a little cleaner; you guys are free to copy if you wish.
