Can we discuss pet peeves here? (6 Viewers)

People that don't appreciate and enjoy the toasty goodness of warmed up bread products.
You freaking west coasters ruining everything.

From Streetwise New York's How to Eat a Bagel Like a New Yorker:

New Yorkers are in agreement: if a bagel is well made and fresh, you should never toast it. It would be like taking a perfectly cooked steak and throwing it back on the fire. A fresh bagel in New York City means it has been made in the past 5 hours.

If it’s not fresh or it’s a bad bagel, like in your hotel’s continental breakfast or your office meeting, then go ahead, toast it and hold your nose.

You probably like cold soup too, Mr East Coast Man.

Truth is I doubt I've ever had a GREAT bagel.  I've never been to NYC. :bag:

And I probably eat less than 3 bagels a year; mostly because one of my jerk kids left 3/4 of a bagel behind after they told me they were "STARRRRRRRRVING"

Hey, speaking of pet peeves......god, I could write a book just based off of my brood.

There are wonderful cold soups.

pet peeve: daughter leaves half consumed beverages around the house

My oldest is home from college and I'm thrilled to have him back.  But my god, it kills me when he brings down about a week's worth of dishes and glasses from his room; especially when the dishwasher is running and he leaves his haul to squat in my clean sink.

I've been to NYC and bagels were specifically on my list to try.  Had several.  Bottom line is we definitely can get good bagels of the same quality on the west coast.  You just have to find the right spots.  That schtick about the water on the east coast being better is bull####.

I figured, I just don't seek bagels out.

You know what else the west coast figured out?  Pizza.

People that stand right next to a microwave and let it beep the full four times. Your text or stupid video you are watching isn't that important.

I am pretty sure I've mentioned this already (which could be someone else's pet peeve LOL), but yeah... folks that drive right down the middle of residential streets.  I'm forced to swerve all the way to the right, and sometimes slow down to avoid parked cars.  It's like they don't realize it's a 2-way street or are scared of the parked cars on their right.  Are you stupid?   Terrible, terrible drivers out there.

Letting it beep to conclusion is grounds for termination, divorce and putting a child up for adoption.

Ralated: Slamming the microwave door shut.  19 & 18 year old sons are nocturnal. They shut the microwave door like they are breaking up with it.  Jars me awake.

This won't work for you cuz you're keeping a herd of earthlings but I'm just a guy and his daughter. When she kept doing this during isolation I came up with a solution. I hid all but a couple dishes and bowls, most of the silverware, etc. Just minimized the kitchen gear. Now she has to wash what she needs which is usually what she uses. Kitchen's been spotless for a year.

He did that first.

Then he ate his food while watching a video on his phone with the volume on.

a beautiful seabass chunk that has been seared hard on one side and then poached in a lovely Asian broth ...
Whoa, whoa, whoa.  What kind of seabass? Patagonian snaggletooth whatever they  call seabass (chilean), black sea bass, hapu, Peruvian Sea Bass, Giant Sea Bass...? This makes a big difference...

I had to check to see what folder this is.

Why does Stephen A Smith have a job?  He is godawful.  Even worse than Berman, Simms, or Buck.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.  Can't believe I don't hear more complaining about these.  I can't imagine a worse designed product.  In ~20 years, we've had the batteries in these die maybe 75-100 times...and it seems as though 90%+ of the time it's in the middle of the night.  I dread hearing the chirping battery indicator that makes it impossible to sleep and having to go get the ladder (and hope that we have extra batteries) while half asleep at 3am.

Then, each type has slightly different sounds and lights that make it tough to know what it's indicating.  Does no light mean it's dead or everything is fine?  Is that noise just the unit malfunctioning and playing the test sound or are we about to die?
Bumping this every time the battery dies in one.  Happened a few days ago.  Wasn't too bad though - middle of the day in a hallway with a low ceiling, so I didn't even need to use a ladder.

well, DUH! maybe try turning them OFF when they're not in use, to conserve battery juice?

Hmmm.  I don't doubt that Portland has some amazing pizzerias - not that anyone has ever offered to take me to any when I've visited. 🤬

To me though, what keeps places on the west coast (or south) from laying claim to any titles is a dearth of B-plus pizza places littered throughout every town/hood.  If you want to just drop in somewhere and grab a quick slice, you can't go wrong stopping in almost any hole-in-the-wall pizza joint in NYC, Philly, or Baltimore.  Hell, I live in the 'burbs and have three really good spots in walking distance.

In my experience, on any visit to LA or Nashville or Seattle or Tampa, you actively have to seek out good pizza, I've never just stumbled upon it.  Same with bagels...

I can give you some great spots in Nashville :)

Thanks, Keerock.  I love DeSano's near Music Row and Smith & Lentz if I'm seeing a show at Basement East.  Pizza usually isn't the #1 thing on my brain when I visit, but would be great to know more options.
