Can we discuss pet peeves here? (7 Viewers)

Sending a message to somebody via Microsoft teams that isn't logged in. I hate teams. Never use teams except when we have some group training or meeting and inevitably I have two or three messages from coworkers that sit at a desk all day.

Why would somebody think that is ok?
Maybe you should just log into Teams?
They made a big deal about bringing us back in office because of the face to face interaction.....so my passive aggressive *** refuses to log in now.

My job heavily relies on teams, but I will sometimes put myself in "appear offline" mode so I can just watch what's going on without having to participate or respond :D

"anonymous" surveys at work.

They aren't anonymous. Usually the results are aggregated by job titles and demographics. So if you have a group session and give them a specific survey afterward it isn't usually very difficult to determine who said what.
a friend of mine who works in management says it's more simple than that even. your employee ID/name/email is attached to your "anonymous" response

he would sometimes drop sly comments related to things people had apparently said in the anonymous replies and watch them squirm. he did it to me once before cluing me in on it.

i'm all positives and shiny language if forced to answer those things now.
Yes, this. We use QuestionPro for institutional surveys, but my understanding is that all these platforms are the same. The responses are absolutely 100% not anonymous unless the person setting up the survey goes out of their way to make it so. That never deters me from being direct when I write out responses, but I make a special point to make sure not to say anything that I don't want read back to me by the head of HR.

Teams is great working from home. When my cat sleeps on my laptop it keeps me "online" so I don't even have to move the mouse every 5 minutes.
My wife's cat is mean. It waits until my computer goes into sleep mode then jumps on the keyboard and tries to log me in 4 times which locks me out where I have to get to IT to get turned back on.

My latest bugaboo is ordering the same thing every time but having the total price be different. I go to a local coffee shop and order the same breakfast sandwich and same coffee each time, and the price is rarely the same. It’s not going to kill me to pay the higher price, and I am guessing it may very be that that is the right price (ie they may be under charging me the other times). I’m guessing that some workers just give me the sandwich at the base price and others ring each item on it in separately. Not the best business practice though to be inconsistent.

this happens to me at Culver's. i get the same order every time and it's rarely ever the same price. i only notice because it's +/- $10 every time. sometimes it's like $9.20, other times it's $10.50.

nothing changes about the order or what they hand me.

When places don't fix stuff that they know isn't ringing up right.

For over a year sweet potatoes didn't ring up right at my local grocery store because the PLU for both organic and regular were the same in the system. You could type in the code manually and it would work at self checkout, but you had to know the code. They finally put signs up at the self checkout stations with the code.

I never ask for it but I sometimes am given a senior discount there.

I really try not to let this one bug me because I imagine that if it were me in that position I might do something similar, but people that repeat the same words all day long in businesses are becoming incomprehensible.

For example: My daughter loves McDonald's breakfast burritos, so usually on Saturday mornings I'll run down there and get a couple. The lady that works the drive-thru speaker in the mornings has managed to turn "Good morning, welcome to McDonalds, will you be using our mobile app today?" into "welm to Madonna, mobah app?" in her greetings. She's a sweet lady when you talk to her at the window and is otherwise articulate in conversation, and she always gives me my card back with a "have a blessed day" or a "thank you, love", it's just that she's repeated that phrase 1000x a day for however long and it's become little more than a grunt now.

We use Teams. I send messages all the time regardless of their status. If someone isn't logged in, they will see it when they log in.

And PS - I spend about 10% of my time at a desk

apperently there is a difference between "the works", "deluxe", and "everything".

In Virginia at a super Wawa. There are 16:gas pumps. Guess how many have an empty car parked in front of it. 15!!!!!

There are literally like 5 cars using up parking spots so now there are lines forming for gas pumps waiting for all the yahoos to come out

Agreed. But I don't go to Wawa for gas anymore. They (and Royal Farms) are way more expensive than anyone else in South Jersey. I remember when the reverse was true.

Cool I'm in Virginia ;)

Restaurants that don't customize quantities based on table size. Like if four of us sit down and order a plate of potstickers, we'll ask how many come in the order and they say three. I mean come on, throw us a bone here. Why can't they put them on the menu priced individually and you order as many as you want?

Conversely, we went to an actual good restaurant the other day and when this happened they said they would add an additional item to match our table size.

And THIS is the kind of thing that earns a server a better tip

Sounds like you should be upset with your employer, not fellow employees who actually utilize the tools your company pays for.

This drives me crazy as well but I've always assumed items are sold in odd quantities because people tend to dine more frequently in even numbers so this practice encourages the ordering of multiple orders. But if they don;'t sate the quantity on the menu it seems counter productive except for regulars.

Just get two orders of potstickers

Worse yet is places that bring a basket of bread…4 pieces for a table of 5.

I used to work for an architecture firm that specialized in gas stations. I'd say 95% of the cities we worked in count each side of the pump as a parking spot, so technically they are parking spots.... but I feel your pain.

That said, I pulled into a gas station on Friday morning and there were like 2 parking spots; one was ADA and the other was taken (presumably by the guy manning the register). So I pulled up to a pump knowing I was just there for a drink and to use the restroom. Sorry?

People who just chuck stuff out of their car window while either parked or driving. Fast food bags, empty beverage containers, and worst of all used diapers.
A few years back I was at a strip mall and saw a lady in a van open the side door, throw what looked like a bunch of trash from takeout (brown bags, Subway wrappers, etc.) in the middle of a parking lot and drive away. I was too gobsmacked in the moment to even react. There was a public trashcan no more than 10 feet from her van. No idea WTF is wrong with some people.

I have two favorites for littering experiences in my life.

Driving behind a car that had broken many traffic laws thus far. Comes to a complete stop at a stop sign. I finally catch up and they are still stopped. I see the windows roll down. Smoke comes pouring out, and then a McDonald's bag gets launched out each window simultaneously, car squeals away.

Next was waiting at a stop light. Both doors open. Guys lean out on each side and each puts an empty beast light can on the ground.

When I was 17 I threw a pop can out the window. I was in the front passenger seat. We got pulled over and the cop made me pickup trash in the ditch for over an hour in 90 degree heat and 100% humidity and finished by telling me that I disgusts him. I learned my lesson.

There are road signs around Michigan with a number to call to report littering. I've been known, on occasion, to take note of license plate numbers and call on people who do this.

I hate litter. I would totally snitch.

Watching the Summer League. I now hate Jim Beam. Sweet Caroline BOM BOM BOM over and over and over. Do these people not ever listen to their own ads?
Perhaps annoying hearing it a few times a day via commercial, but I know that a lot of bars that play this song tend to get a lot of patron participation so it's not so far off from reality.

One new FB trend. They say sponsored, meaning paid ads. Getting a lot of ads, supposably from different sites but I suspect for one site using a lot of different names. It shows a story with a premise intended to get you outraged, but there is not enough room for the whole story to be told. On purpose as it is clickbait. But I saw if you click on the link, it will bring you to a page with 30-40 such stories and ads in one scrolldown fashion, and the bait story is somewhere buried in there. Getting a bunch of those, each with a different bait story and I am blocking each ad site as I receive those.

I thought of this thread today. Doing mandatory online training for work.

They have a knowledge test at the end. You must score above 80% or higher to compete training. There were 6 questions. 1 wrong is 83% .... so there really was no way to score 80%

Percentages should match the questions

Speaking of which, should probably be in the annoying commercials thread, but the car commercial where they play the "Jitterbug" snippet of Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go is the worst one I've seen in a while. Even for people who like the song, do they really want to hear the guy groaning "Jitterbug" over and over? So obnoxious.

I actually ran across the Spanish version of the ad, and they replaced Wham! with the intro to La Bamba, which is much less annoying heard several times in a row.

Still not as annoying as the little girl's laugh. Yep, I'm old and crotchety.

I'm on the completely other end of this. I think it's adorable and makes me long for when I was "Mr. Mom" to my now 12-year-old daughter.

I hate the questions/answers at the end that are either not clear or trying to be tricky. When I can make a legitimate argument both for and against multiple answers to a question it is not a good question.

People that claim a table before ordering. Messes up the natural order of things. Especially at a place that has a fast turnover rate.
I do this at certain places. What really messes up the order of things are people who don’t leave after finishing eating at places like this. There should be a fast turnaround but it isn’t always the case. Getting a table ahead of time is just a shark move.

I agree. I have a few I have to do every year
- Ladder safety
- confined spaces
- asbestos awareness
- sexual harassment and diversity
