Soft serve is definitely a subset of ice cream and if you get served soft serve when ordering ice cream, you should do a little dance because it is superior to regular ice cream in every way.

You are flat out wrong. Soft serve you get basically one flavor. Or, if you are some kind of wizard at the soft serve machine and can twirl chocolate and vanilla together - maybe two.

But real ice cream....man you have so many possibilities.

Tin roof sunday. Chocolate chip. Mint chocolate chip. Rocky Road. All kinds of different nuts and m&m's and other cool additives. We are in the glory days of ice cream right now.

I'd like to see that soft serve machine spit out a rocky road soft serve. Be like a guy trying to pass kidney stones.

It's weird how, over the past couple decades, my political tolerance for marijuana, in terms of legalization, etc. has gone up as my personal tolerance for being around it has gone down.

Or maybe it's not weird at all. After all, my personal tolerance of weed has tracked pretty closely with my personal tolerance of cigarettes

For me, cigarettes are WAAAAAAAY worse. I don’t mind the smell of weed. And the smoke doesn’t bother/affect my ability to breath.

totes agree.... I've said it before in this thread but I absolutely hate when folks hang their lung darts out their open car windows while at a stop light.... that smoke invariably finds its way into my car's intake and right into my nose

I work at a liquor store in the evenings and let me tell you this is a great way to get a contact high. Some folks come wandering in as if they just rolled out of the Love Macheen from Up in Smoke. And yes, the skunk stank is still way better than cigarette breath standing two feet across from you with the halfie stuck in the ear.

But the high school sophomore at Baskin Robbins digging it out of a 5 gallon bucket isn't hand-dipping it.

I was referring to cigarette smoke. I can handle the dank smell of marijuana just fine.

I know, from books like "Mindless Eating" (great read, BTW), that adjectives in menus have a significant effect on how we perceive food ("Grandma's homemade meatloaf", "fire-roasted tomatoes", "artisanal bread", etc.)

So which marketing genius came up with the idea of "hand-dipped" milkshakes? Because unlike all those other adjectives, that phrase doesn't whet my appetite. What it does do is force me to picture the minimum-wage teenager behind the counter sticking their hand into my milkshake immediately before serving it to me

I stand corrected that “hand-dipped” refers to the ice cream rather than the milkshake. But I stand by my positions that a) it’s marketing, and b) it’s an off-putting term because I don’t want to think of other people’s appendages when I’m eating

I totally agree this is what it should be, I've been slightly shticking in here. But I've heard "single/double dip" used interchangeably with scoops my entire life. Just do a google image search for "double dip ice cream cone".

The act of scooping is using an instrument of some kind or your hand, and removing some of said item, placing in into another vessel and you are left with a scoop of said item.

No one asks for a dip of ice cream, they ask for a scoop of ice cream. The act of obtaining the ice cream from the ice cream container is scooping, not dipping. I could see dip, if you then took the scoop of ice cream and dipped it into something, like chocolate sauce, but that's generally not happening when you make a shake. So dipped is a bad choice of words here.
