Can we discuss pet peeves here? (6 Viewers)

There's this idiot that parks in the dropoff zone at my kids school.  It's literally right where people would be walking from one sidewalk to the next so you have to go completely around his SUV to walk towards the classrooms.  Absolutely no self-awareness.   He's not just parked there for a quick second to drop kids off.  They're there for a good 5+ minutes for some reason.  If I wasn't so passive-aggressive I'd knock on the window and would tell him everyone else parks on the street or just does quick drop-offs in that zone.
Suck it up and do it

You'll feel better and he'll probably not do it anymore

Depending on how drop off goes at your school, there are probably a number of issues. It used to frustrate me so much. One time I got so mad I called the phone number on the side of a company car that was being a jag in order to tell them they were being a jag.

I made a list of all the issues that occur in the parking lot. I came up with a plan of exactly how I thought it should work. Even proposing that buses handle things differently, cars only being able to leave and enter certain ways, eliminating some parking spots to improve visibility, etc. I sent my "plan" to the principal and believe it or not he actually implemented all of it. He even added some of his own stuff and said lots of parents had complained, but nobody ever actually proposed a solution. He even went on google maps and took shots of the school and put arrows and stuff on it and sent it out to all parents. He got the local police department and city involved and it made the whole process so much smoother. I made sure to emphasize safety since some kids walk to school and had to walk through the parking lot. They made the same exact changes at one of the other schools too and even moved where the crosswalk was to make it match.

My son doesn't go there any more, but every time I drive by and see "my signs" it puts a smile on my face.

I tell you this because there is a really good chance there are a lot of other people irritated with a bunch of things. If you send an email with some detailed stuff to the principal, he/she might actually do something about it. I would definitely emphasize the safety issue of how a car that remains in the dropoff lane for too long will inevitably force other cars to have to back up and that is how kids can easily get hit.

This will be a specific pet peeve.....

We have guards driving into our facility and every morning you need to show id.  And of course there is always a line to get in.

Stop having conversations with the ### #### guards.   Listen I know we see them every day.  But make small talk on your way back from lunch or when there aren't 20 cars in Line!!!!!!;

Is it so hard to be clear in an email?

Son's coach just sent this email...

Due to inclement weather tonight's game has been postponed. Practice remains at the Indoor Soccer Park from 4-5pm.

WTF???? Practice remains? There was no practice scheduled for 4-5 today. I am pretty sure he means tomorrow's outdoor practice has been rescheduled to the indoor soccer park from 4-5 pm. But maybe there is in fact now practice from 4-5 today in lieu of a game.

People that don't return their shopping carts to the mother-####ing cart stalls in the parking lot. 😡😡😡  I parked at the very back of the Walmart lot yesterday, and watched as seven different people unloaded their carts into their vehicle, and either shoved the shopping cart into the area in between two parked cars, or just flat out left it sitting right where they unloaded it and just drove away.  Every one of these people was less than 4 slots away from a cart stall.

You're blocking people from being able to park in what should be an empty slot, you're leaving rolling scratch/dent machines loose to wreak havoc on other people's vehicles, and you're making the minimum wage teenager's job 10x harder when he has to come through the lot after he finishes his joint and round up all the carts.

Yeah man, it's their world, we're just lucky enough to live in it.

How weird. I just went to Walmart this afternoon and tried to park close to the store (because I'm basically a lazy bum). I started to pull into a spot between two SUVs before realizing there were four carts further in the spot. Yup, three spots away from an empty cart stall like you said (I guess I'm not as lazy as some other people).  I pulled back out and went to find another spot while another driver behind me made the same mistake of thinking he could park in that one.

I vowed to crush those inconsiderate shoppers by posting in this thread ('cause that'll learn 'em), only to find you already did it for me just a couple hours ago.

My wife is incredibly mild mannered. She wont even tell off a telemarketer.  If she sees you not putting your cart away, I don't even know the person she becomes. I imagine it is like if you actually dumped the can of tuna on MOP in church.

Pet peeve

Watching an NFL game,  guy with speed does something, TV announcer........he has world class speed,....when in reality no he doesn't. World class speed is a sub 10.10 100m, sub 20.20 200m. Only current player with world class speed would be Tyreek Hill with a 20.14 200m in HS.

Since 1920 there have been about 50 NFLers with legit ...world class speed.

What is it with your never ending obsession with fast nfl players.  Kind of strange.

Hypothetically speaking would tyreek hill be able to run away from the cops?

They probably have no clue where the stairs even are.
Many places make stairwells difficult to access and/or terribly inconvenient. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve walked down multiple flights to see “emergency exit only, alarm will sound” signs. Or exited into some employee only area, urine-scented alley or loading dock.

Half the time when I ask for directions to the nearest stairwell instead of an elevator, I get a look like I’m from another planet.

And my personal peeve: backing into parking spaces. If you’re all alone, take your gawd damn time parking, but please don’t make me watch as you poorly execute a 10-point turnaround. If you lack the skills to pull directly into a space, buy a smaller vehicle.

So to piggy back off my last gripe about people who let other people out at incorrect times:

Yesterday driving home from work.  One car in front of me (a Prius, no judgment) and no other cars in sight.  Empty road as far as you can see both in front and behind.  Speed limit is 45 and were doing a little over 45.  We approach a side road where there is a car waiting to pull out into the same lane as us.  Again, two lane road.  Guy in Prius slams on brakes and waves to the car at the stop sign.  I damn near rear ended him.  Guy waiting to pull out is so confused by Prius, he just looks at him.  Prius waves to him again to go.  Guy in other car, who was not expecting to be let out, now has to look both ways to make sure it's clear, then pulls out.

If Prius would have just driven by at 46 mph, guy would have pulled out behind me and we all would've been home quicker and safer.  Also, guy in Prius gave me the finger because I guess he thought I stopped too close to his bumper when he decided to come to a full stop on the middle of a state highway for unexpected, stupid reasons.  My bad.  That's on me, Prius guy.  The jerk store definitely called.  :hot:

Similar to drivers letting cars in at the wrong time, pedestrians not taking advantage of their right of way when a car waves them in annoys me.  I go through a busy intersection on the way home from work everyday.  I always have to stop at the red to take a right, and often find myself the first car to go.  Cross traffic is always busy so I have to wait for green.  There are almost always pedestrians waiting to cross.  Usually they go right away when the light turns green because they get a walk sign and MN has pretty pedestrian friendly laws.  But of course, once a week there will be the guy who apparently has never seen this type of intersection, is surprised by the green light and now has to figure out what to do.  He looks at the walk sign, looks at me in the turn lane to see if I'm going to run him over, notices me looking at him (waiting for him to walk through the intersection so I can go), but he pauses, then waives me through.  No dude, you have the right of way, and there are 20 cars behind me wanting to get home from work too.  If you waive me through, which one of those do you think is going to sop for you once you lose the walk sign?

This sounds made up.  Are people really that stupid?

I know some are.  Damn I would've blown a gasket Sheik what an idiot.

No only not made up.  I have this happen to me at least once a week.  Not sure if it's a SE PA thing or what.  But it infuriates me.

HFS.  Sounds like Tampa

Major highways where the lane markings have been moved, but the old markings have only been partially erased, causing confusion and leading people to take up two lanes while driving.

School anti-bullying rules that are applied primarily to those who retaliate against bullies or defend victims of bullying.

School bus drivers who stop ON the train tracks, rather than before they reach the train tracks.

Had to get a new battery today for my truck, here was a guy ahead of me and only one guy working the register. I set the battery down as I wait. The cashier takes care of the guy ahead of me, I move up.

rinnngggg rinnnggggg

Cashier.....hello

As I wait

Cashier....we might have that in stock and....

Me.....excuse me but I;m in a bit of a rush.

Cashier.....hold on, ok.

I can't say that is a legit pet peeve  because I won't stand there while these people yak on the phone.

Believe it or not that ....excuse me I'm a bit busy.....has never failed. I am a big guy, I think that does help.

He put the guy on hold until we finished our business, which is how it should be.

Really hard to believe this story!  Now if it was a chick totally believeable!  Heck nm a lot of guys act like chicks now a days.  Just never seen a guy do it.

Can everyone stop referring to five years as "half a decade"?  Is that somehow more impressive?  Half a century?  It's FIFTY YEARS, doosh.  Just call it what it is, and stop trying to make it sound like a geological age.

As a newly minted half centurion - I don't feel too stoney at the moment.

Thus, fifty years would suit me better. Plus, I am a pacifist now & want no part of the army life.

✌️

Exactly - everyone knows 5 years is a lustrum

I've been working here for a lustrum

I HATE the people who wave people into traffic at times when they shouldn't.  There's a reason the states do traffic studies, people.

On my drive to work, there's a section of road where one semi major state route comes to a T intersection with another state route.  These are both 2 lane heavily traveled back roads.  Before they meet, there is a stop light about a half mile back.  And another stop light a half mile ahead.  No stop light/sign at the T.  But people always stop there to wave out one car.  It backs up the entire road for hours.  But if they just kept driving, eventually, that stop light in the back turns red and no traffic comes through, allowing all the people at the T waiting to pull out time to go.  Or if traffic backs up from the stop light ahead, you can let people out since you're already stopped.  Some mornings, you can get through this area in 3 minutes.  But the minute someone stops to let someone out, everyone does, and that mile section of road turns into a 20 minute traffic jam.
This morning a guy always t-boned me.  As cars are letting a car go each time and there's no traffic in front of us, but dead stop traffic behind, when it was my turn, I did not let someone out.  But guy at the stop sign gunned it and came inches from hitting my passenger side.  He then laid on the horn.  For the next 10 minutes, he was the car behind me and was fuming at me, yelling and banging on his steering wheel.  Pointing at me and flipping me off.  I waved at him.

The crazy thing is, this guy thought he was right and I was wrong.  Like, he was genuinely upset and thought I was wrong because I didn't stop where there was no stop sign to let him go while he sat at a stop sign.

I like highlighting to people I graduated from high school with that it was more than a quarter century ago.

Sounds like a rookie mistake I could see myself making once or twice, especially since I once worked in a shop that provided maintenance service for large agricultural tractors and construction equipment (backhoes, dozers, forklifts, etc), where rule #1 was always - yield to larger objects.  I'm sure there are some boat-law corollaries, too.

client:  what are all my options here?

me: here are 3 options. the first is my recommendation as it fits your current setup. the second is possible but would require a bit more work based on current realities and the third would actually be best long-term but seems the least applicable for your situation now based on current settings.

client: (rails against the 3rd option for 15 minutes. complains that the systems should not work this way.... can't understand why this is an option... why would i have presented this to them, etc. etc.)

me: well, the third suggestion was presented because it's a possibility that exists if you tweak a couple things in your current model. i presented it because you asked for all options. this is something that's very popular for other clients. it's something you might want to consider in the future as it's actually easier but would require changes to your current setup.

client: (rails against the 2nd option for 10 minutes)

me: again, a viable option but would require some changes to your current process. the first is really your best & cleanest option currently.

client: right, which is why i'm choosing #1.

me: (screaming internally)

it has been said 10,000 ways but somehow weather reports/reporters continue to find new ways to create clickbaity previews

"stay tuned for a weather aware day update. there's some real potential here for severe weather moving in to the area, folks. we're talking potential for wind gusts up to 50-60 mph, hail, severe lightning and thunder... up next in 7 minutes."

"buckle up, it looks like we've got a system moving in some time in the next week.. as soon as tomorrow but as far out as maybe next Sunday... with some real potential for possible weather. looking at high winds blowing in from the south, or east, or north, or west with the possible potential for rain which could be heavy at times that might impact those of you who could be traveling through the affected areas.... up next at 9."

the updates get more breathy and urgent and the weather maps more colorful but vague. the language gets more severe and excited..... but  the timing of the storm shifts.

then the big reveal! and the radar shows light rain hundreds of miles away.. that won't ever get remotely near our viewing area. in fact, we'll come to find out that it won't rain in our neck of the woods for weeks but you can guarantee that every single day the weather man will hyperventilate about the possibility of explosive, life changing, historical weather events bearing down on our area which happens to span hundreds of miles to the north, south and west.

i get the need to alert people to the possibility of flooding and tornadoes, etc. but maybe don't cry wolf every day & people would pay attention?
