Can we discuss pet peeves here? (12 Viewers)

More Michigan complaining.

I live in the Detroit area.  For some super dumb reason, Detroit does it's fourth of July fireworks in late June, usually on a Wednesday night.

I grew up in the Chgo area and a big part of the 4th of July was going downtown to see the fireworks...

Detroit area..Mid June.......Wednesday.  I've lived here since 1996 and have never seen Detroit's fireworks show.

I get it that people have food allergies and have to still eat.  That said, I work at a place that basically uses butter, milk, and nuts everywhere.  To come in and expect us to spit shine everything and start a new batch of custard during a busy time is highly irritating.

Cincinnati's Oktoberfest is in the middle of September.

There are 2 reasons for this.

  1. These are NOT the 4th of July Fireworks, they are the Detroit-Windsor International Freedom Festival Fireworks.  They celebrate both Independence Day (July 4) and Canada Day (July 1).  Doing it on either of those days would appear to favor one over the other.
  2. These fireworks used to be done on a weekend but attracted too much in the way of violence, etc. so they moved to mid-week maybe 15 years ago.
The fireworks are really awesome, if you ever get the chance I highly recommend them.

Bad reasons..Horrible bad reasons...We can celebrate that day some other time can't we?  It's the forth of July...A day to be thinking about MERICA!!!!  :headbang:

This is probably more than just a pet peeve, but I’m sick of companies always trying to scam people. I’ve got a 6 ft tall wooden fence for the entire backyard with a padlock on the gate (don’t want kids leaving it open to where the dogs could run out), I’ve got nest cameras, and I work from home. With all this, I’ve still gone through 3 yard companies in the past couple of years because they claim the sprayed for weeds or whatever when they very obviously didn’t. I watched the Orkin guy come out, fill out an “I sprayed the yard sign,” pop it in the ground and leave. When I called to complain they had the nerve to tell me not only did they spray, but that they did the backyard as well.  He didn’t have much to say when I mentioned the padlock and the cameras. It’s infuriating.
This could probably just as easily be a crappy employee pet peeve.

As true as this may be, someone in charge hired that crappy employee, and they are also responsible.
I hate this mindset in our society. It is just a way to blame deep pockets. Sometimes managers know the employees are garbage. Sometimes they dont.

And if we made sure all bad employees didnt have jobs, well our society would be toast.

This makes no sense at all. Managers should not be responsible for crappy hires? Lol.

Fireworks in general are a pet peeve of mine. I don’t understand why people continue to be so entertained by them. Once you’ve seen one fireworks show you’ve seen them all for the most part. Yet people will drive for miles and sit in traffic for the opportunity to ooooh and aaaah at the same fireworks they’ve seen a hundred times.

And they scare the #### out of most pets. I’d be fine if they were eradicated from society completely.

Not an active contributor to this thread so apologies if this has been covered but I find it incredibly rude and obnoxious to walk into another person's home or business and asking Alexa (or whatever) to change the music or play something different.  Yeah I know there's a mute button...I employ it when I see my neighbor coming up my driveway. :hot:

Kids do that here.  Right in front of the parents.  I guess they think it's cute that their kids know how to use it, but I don't.

I like to add stuff to their grocery list. “Alexa add Jack Fruit to my grocery list”.

Well, I get what you're saying, but many indoor pets are terrorized of fireworks being lit off in neighborhoods or around the city in general.  One night of fireworks is plenty, IMHO.
Ah, ok, got it. I have seen people that feel compelled to take Rover to the park for the fireworks because, well, people. But yea, neighborhood fireworks are a whole other ballgame.

In some situations, no.

The orkin technician that shows up and places a tag in the lawn and doesn't actually do anything is likely a con artist. It is disingenuous of society to place restrictions on how deep into employees lives businesses are allowed to dig, but then hold them 100% responsible at all times for everything that person does.

When you call past employers to get a reference you will get dates of employment and position verification and that is pretty much it. Why? Because we as a society don't want those people to not be able to get a new job. We have allowed the rules to be set up this way. More than likely if the old business was like "Dude, this employee is trash. He is a liar and a con artist." that employer would end up being sued or getting accused of blacklisting from the equal rights division. They also no longer want him affecting their unemployment comp ratings so they want him to get a new job.

This can't be real :lmao:    What dooshnozzle would do that

I am fine with the Fourth of July city/village fireworks, you know when they are, it is part of a whole town picnic/carnival/whatever.   The ones I really wish would go away are the jackhole neighbors who buy the big mortars and launch then at completely random times.  Why do you need to shoot off fireworks at 10:30 on a random Tuesday in May?  I don't have any pets, but do have 3 kids who wake up and come downstairs and I get to spend the next few hours getting them back to sleep (only to have another random firework start the process over), and then get to deal with overtired kids the next day.   And the kicker is that the house that used to do this was a State Police Officer, so there was no use in calling the cops on them.

Don't know if this is just a Kroger thing, but the whole "I'm too lazy to do my own shopping so I get someone at the store to do it and she/he has a massive ####### cart that takes up half the ####### isle and does not give 2 ####s to get out of my way because I'm not too lazy to do my own shopping and why the #### would you want someone getting paid $7 an hour to pick out your produce" needs to stop.

Oh, and they take up great parking spots too.
So I snapped Saturday when I went to Kroger and there were no parking spots to be found, but there are 6 pull through "Click List" spots wide ### open.  I parked in one of them and when in and got my 4 items and went back out - still no cars in those up close spots.  This is going to be my new shtick.  I'm parking in these spots every time I go.  Please, let them say something.

ordering from my kid's school

each school does an annual apparel sale fundraiser. nice stuff for good prices. tech shirts for $15. school branded quarter zips for $20. gotta support the team.

but the lack of communication and wait is ridiculous.  ordered 3 weeks ago. nothing delivered yet. no communication regarding delays. no shipping info. no responses from the school or manufacturer.

just... radio silence.

in the past it has taken anywhere from 3 days to 3 months for delivery. there's no rhyme or reason.

This can grind my gears.  Very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

I've been over fireworks for years now, if not longer.  Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever been a fan... even as a kid.  Meh.

I loved them as a kid.  But we always went to some secluded place to light them off.  Away from everyone.  I hate them now because we live in a dense neighborhood and people are lighting them off up until midnight.  Just random firecrackers going off at 11 on a Tuesday night.  We have two dogs.  One who isn't smart enough to be scared.  And the other who freaks out for 4 hours after hearing a loud pop.

I want to punch these idiots in the face every time a firecracker or bottle rocket goes off.  Especially when it's in March on a weeknight after midnight.
