Websites that require you turn off your ad-blocker. In effect, they'd rather not allow you to read their content than to read it without ads. Dumb.

I'm taking that as a shot at me for not knowing something, but I don't know what.  :shrug:  

Could be some basic science I'm missing, but I'm just trying to contribute to why people prefer new cartons to opened cartons.

I microwave the ice cream tub for like 30 seconds (we have a smaller, less powerful microwave than most) before scooping.  OK, I lied, I just eat it right out of the carton.  But I do microwave it first.  It softens it up perfectly.

Not meant in a mean way. Thought it was funny you said you didnt want to get into the debate, but then got into the debate by saying exactly what i had said earlier, but just eliminating ice crystals. 

 
people who run their freezers at too low of a temperature.

and then whine about hard ice cream.  :doh:

Restaurants that don't have a proper ventilation system. You go in smelling like fresh laundry. You go out smelling like a bag of cooked onions that is embedded into every square inch of your clothing and hair.

Backing in (or pulling through) should be required at sporting events. Everyone would get out of the parking lot in half the time.

Haven’t been to a sporting event in a long time, but I bet the time lost during poorly executed back-ins would offset whatever benefit you get leaving.

I go to sporting events all the time in a state where backing in and pulling through is quite common (and most who do it do it well). I can state unequivocally that you are incorrect on this point. people don’t all arrive to a sporting event at the same time. So you may be inconvenienced by one car that is backing in to a space (assuming they don’t know how to do it) which costs you maybe one minute. But a vast majority of the crowd all leaves a sporting event at the same time. If everyone had backed in or pulled through, it would be far easier to exit the lot instead of a 45 minute nightmare.

I've always thought airplanes should load from the front AND the back. Divide the plane into two halves and just have the jetway split off into two directions.

Some restaurants...sure, I don't want to smell like that.

But man...nothing better than going into an old BBQ joint and coming out smelling like I have been on the smoker for 12 hours.

Warning:  If you are on a flight not long after lunch and there is a good possibility it will be delayed...and your airport has crap for food...this may not be the best thing to be smelling like delicious BBQ.

 I also live in a state where people back in frequently, and probably 1 in 3 do so poorly. But I can imagine it facilitates the exodus after a game.

Some stadiums it would have zero effect. The only way it would improve is if it was a venue that has no backup once you get past where people are pulling out of spots. In my experience at lots of venues where the parking lot exits to the streets has its own backups to deal with.

Exactly.  And at the very least, you should back in if others don't.  Because when it's time to pull out and cars are stacked up in your aisle, you just pull forward a couple feet and merge.  But if you have to back out of the space, you have to rely on the graciousness of someone stopping and leaving an entire car length open so you can back out.  And people start losing that graciousness when there are 5-10 cars trying to back out of spaces in that aisle.

As an aside, I've had season tickets for a while and I've pretty much perfected the optimal path for getting out of the stadium lot and through side streets to avoid traffic on the return trip.  I probably spent way to much time on the analysis, but in my mind, it's worth it.

At the individual level, I agree that it makes sense.  However, as far as getting everyone out quicker, I don't think it makes any difference.  Once you get out of your spot, you're stuck sitting there anyway.  The backup is not everyone trying to back out of their spot.  The backup is where the traffic leaving the stadium meets traffic in my experience.  Different stadium layouts may have different issues.

 
I know tailgating has been mentioned in here before. Today a tailgater paid a hefty price. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 

I was behind a trailer that was overloaded with branches, no doubt on its way to the dump, since it was on a street that is one of two ways to get there. I of course don't want to follow too closely in case anything falls off. The BMW behind me felt it was necessary to follow right on my tail. 

Well a decent size log and a couple of hefty branches bounce off the back of the trailer. The timing couldn't have been better. It was right where a right turn area opened up and I had just put my blinker on to move over. BMW took that as an opp to come even closer to me to close the distance between me and trailer to get him somewhere .6 seconds faster apparently.

Well of course I didn't really need to brake for the log since I had a nice path moving right. BMW smashes right into it in his aggressive move and not being able to see it until the last second, if even at all.

Sounded like a train wreck. It was glorious. I wanted to stop and get out and say something so much, but obviously not a smart decision so I turned right and moved on. Would love to have seen his face.

JetBlue does this at the Long Beach, CA airport.  It's a tiny airport where you walk up to the plane and board via stairways so they are able to board from the front and back.  It's a big timesaver for sure.

Long Beach is my favorite airport.  I can't believe it's still as much a secret as it is.  

I think Burbank boards that way too.

I live inbetween LB and the OC airport so I utilize both.  Well, I don't travel as much as I used to so not so much anymore... but I did.

I have lived in the same general area of Orange County since 1965. 4 different locations.

 
work in a 5 story office building. there are reserved parking spots for visitors an the handicapped.

the rest of the parking spots are unreserved. first come, first served. top end.. you park at the farthest corner of the lot... it's a 1 minute walk to any entry door. and that's if the lot is somehow buried in feet of snow.

so why are people getting angry if someone parked in "their spot"?

trust me, tubby, you could use the extra 6 paces from that further parking spot. the rage you're expressing about someone "stealing your spot" isn't worth it.

 
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors...everything about them:

  • The unbearable chirping sound when the batteries die
  • The fact that the batteries ALWAYS die during the night
  • The red/green indicator lights on most of them that you're left to interpret the meaning of
  • The noises that the test button generates that you're also left to interpret
  • The tiny labels on some parts, with white raised writing on a white background

I had a similar story. Guy was tailgating me at night and made an aggressive move to pass me at the exact moment a deer decided to dart across the road. It was not glorious mainly because it was a deer instead of a log. But it was one of those split second, I can't believe what just happened.

I cant believe how often I will be wanting to pull out of my spot at a store and I cant because a car is directly behind me waiting for a different spot. Especially when I have already started to back out, but then a car is coming so I wait and then they stop directly behind me. Jesus. It is like 4 spots different. They couldn't have just taken my spot after I back out???
