"Manhattan Beach". That's where you are, right?

what's Layne-ita's plan for HS?
More or less - 3 miles south of me, but it'd be only 1.5 miles if I had a rocket pack

Sheepshead Bay - find Marine Park park (big ### oval), we're a little bit west of there

TBD - flipping coins between LaGuardia & Stuyvesant AFAIK

Another one that happened today.  I'm in a left turn lane, trying to go into a parking lot.  Heavy traffic coming from the opposite direction and a light not far down from me.  Took two tries and then me slowly easing myself across the traffic to get across cause the yayhoos wouldn;t stop and leave me a gap.

I didn;t flip anyone off(one was a woman) however I did give the appropriate dirty look.

I figure police departments could fund themselves by ticketing these weenies.  I sure wish they would.

How about turning off your "open" sign.   I drive to work everyday on a business heavy street.  There are so many businesses that are dark, but their open sign is on and flashing.

Not that I can't tell they are actually NOT open, but still....make it part of your closing checklist eh?

It used to be a game on Christmas night driving back from my family. Count all the false open signs vs. the one or two that were actually open (gas stations).

I talk to a lot of people everyday for my job, so I frequently ask for email addresses. So people...please...just tell me your email address with the letters and don't spell it out by associating it with an object or with military lingo.

Me: I can send you an email. What's your email address?

Customer: A as in alpha, C as in charlie, E as in echo @ S as in saxaphone, B as in ballgame, C as in conga line, G as in gonga line, L as in larry, O as in oblong, B as is bong hit, A as in apple,  L as in lick

I see both sides of this. If they did it correctly it might be less annoying.

I hear what you're saying but verbally sometimes

- "M" sounds like "N"

- "F" sounds like "S"

- "D" sounds like "B"

So in those instances I always say a word to associate.  "M as in Mary", "F as in Frank", "D as in David"

Agreed - I have a few letters in both my personal and work emails that are "on the fence" so I'll assist with those.  But I'm not helping them out with "Gmail".

Oh sure, I understand those situations.  But every damn letter....ugh....

Or the dot com part.    I just say me at gmail    If they can't figure out the rest, they should probably not use email

Left turn arrows that happen before the straight green instead of after.  Nobody will ever convince me this is somehow better/more efficient.
True. Plus people in the first spot are more likely to sleep on the arrow if it's been red all that time, limiting the amount of cars behind them to go through that cycle.

Being in a state that doesn’t allow blinking yellow left turn arrows.
A solid green without an arrow means the same as a flashing yellow arrow for turning traffic.  Though an advantage of the blinking yellow arrow is you can legally make a left turn after yielding when the through traffic is facing a solid red light with it on.

On the driving topic.  People who just wont turn on red, even when it's allowed.   Now I have heard, and any westerners correct me, that in states in the west, like California, turning on red is prohibited unless a sign allows it.  Where in Michigan, the opposite is true.  Turns are allowed, unless a sign is posted saying you can't.  IF that's true, I will lower my aggravation somewhat due to the differences in states laws, if it is not true, then my murderous feelings at times over this is justified.

Definitely...and while Im all for some things should differ from state to state...simple traffic laws like that, should be pretty standard across the country.  So that some schmuck from out of state isn't sitting there holding up traffic.

Meh we have schmucks that live here that sit there!#@!@#!@

Although my favorite is the doosh bag that lays on the horn when you don't turn on red and you simply roll down the window and point

Plenty of driving ones for me too, like when you're trying to turn left on a regular green light (no arrow) but traffic is coming from the opposite direction so you need to yield.  The first car should pull partially into the intersection and be ready to turn left when the light turns yellow then red.  However, way too often cars won't pull into the intersection at all and turn left when the light changes or even worse someone considers themselves more important than everyone else and the 2nd or even 3rd car in line will turn left after the light turns red.

I live in NYC and we live right on top of one of these intersections.

half of the people in the left turn lane have no idea what's going on, the other half have their hand hovering over their horns waiting that micro-milli-second for when the light turns green to just lay on the ####er. every 40 or seconds. ALL DAY LONG.

I grew up in CA- right on red was permitted every where afaik... unless posted otherwise.

NYC, where I've lived my entire adult life- right on red is completely forbidden. and it's the out of staters, especially NJ day-trippers, that tend to make them anyways. super dangerous here, where pedestrians have right of way and bicycle traffic is often not seen by these people (and I commute by bike).

and speaking of NYC, I've mentioned it a few times over the years, but this has been worsening lately as people are using public transit more as covid restrictions ease... people standing in the doorway of subway cars and not moving when we pull into a station. I typically vacillate between dropping a shoulder and ramming them to "excuse me... excuse me, please move". Its happening so much, I'm back to red-rover mode.

Feel like I may have posted this before in this thread, but it's so annoying that I don't mind repeating it...school buses that stop ON the railroad tracks, rather than before they cross them.  Seems like 80-90% of school bus drivers do this.  I really don't think that was the intent of the law about stopping at tracks.

Regarding left turn arrows, they should flash yellow way more often. I can see for two miles down the road that there's no oncoming traffic. Why am I sitting at this red arrow? (Truth be told, I don't. I run that thing.)

Good one.  Our local ice cream place switched over to some awful wooden spoons for cups/sundaes and paper straws for shakes.  Ruins the whole experience for me.

People put a lot of effort into getting just the right mouthfeel for ice cream, and then they sandpaper your tongue while you eat it.

which means you've tried drinking through a toilet paper roll... nttawt

I never even heard of cardboard straws until now.
they're paper product, not really "cardboard"...that bio-degrade easily (as opposed to the gajillion plastic straws floating around the world). I feel like a lot of places have made the switch- a good thing overall.

the problem is- they bio-degrade easily... like, in your mouth while you're drinking your drink.

WTF?  The school bus drivers here stop before the tracks, open the door, and listen just in case.

Also, cars shouldn't be stopping there, either.
