Can we discuss pet peeves here? (6 Viewers)

Maybe this is new, maybe not, but I will occasionally make charitable donations, especially if I know the person asking and know it's going for a good cause.  More often than not, when I go to make the donation, I'm asked for a tip.  A TIP!  I get it, it goes to cover the cost of having a 3rd party collect donations, etc.  But, like....that's shouldn't be called a tip.  And take it out of what I donate.  I'm donating $XX to the cause - that's it.  That's the max I'm donating.  Don't ask me for $XX and then a tip of any sort of size on top of it.

And while I'm at it, I just renewed my car's registration on line and since it's fairly new, I don't need to roll into a DEQ to check the rig out for emissions.  And that's fabulous.  Very easy.  But before I could finalize the transaction, I was asked THREE separate times if I'd like to add a donation to this cause or that before I could click submit.  WTF, DMV????  Just.  Let.  Me.  Pay.

Soon they'll be automatically including these extras on your bill and you'll have to notice and manually remove.

Did you donate?

GM's post reminded me of a thing at my old job.

I was on the Dev team for our in house software.   So we had a trouble/improvement form people would submit and would go into our queue then once a week or so we would go through prioritize on the submissions/ cost/ validity etc.

So one of the requests was basically this.

When you wanted to delete records on a screen you click on the toggle box on the screen , hit the delete button a pop up would show up - "YOU ARE ABOUT TO DELETE X NUMBER OF RECORDS!"   Do you wish to continue?

With a Yes button and a No button.

The request was if you hit Yes , that another box popped up to double check if you wanted to Delete?

:lmao:     We probably spent 20 minutes on schtick answers to put in the second pop up.   ARE YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY SURE?     CAN'T MAKE UP YOUR MIND?

I almost wish we implemented it

What reputable charities do this?

Well gosh, that's a strange response.

Maybe I'm just not giving to "reputable" charities then I suppose.

This was a kid trying to raise money for his high school football program.  I've seen it numerous times but you're right of course, I should be way more judicious on where I donate.

It's really not that uncommon.....

Not sure if this happens in other towns or just mine (probably lots)

Every single day outside each of the two main entrances to our Walmart, there's a tent set up with people selling random crap.  One day it's two old guys selling military themed caps/hats, one day it's Girl Scouts selling cookies, one day it's Church of the Wandering Penitent Angel Demons selling baked goods to raise money for a new bus....

I don't have a problem with you posting up outside of a busy place like Walmart.  More traffic = more potential sales/donations.  But don't post TWO people from your group literally in front of the doors shoving flyers into my buggy and accosting every single patron with "EXCUSE ME SIR WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN..." at full volume as they enter and exit the store.  Girl Scout cookies sell themselves ma'am, if I want Thin Mints I'll come to you now quit yelling at me.

I cant even imagine how i would react if asked for a tip. Like is this a website payment or in person they ask?

The box store I go to doesn't allow this. Nobody in front of entrances or walking thru the parking lot with petitions to sign. If someone like a fireworks dealer wants to set up a tent they can rent a spot on the far edge of the parking area, where you would have to seek out them.

That's funny, 'cuz one of my pet peeves is how "I'm good" now means "no".

IMO, "I'm good" should be a response to "how are you?", not in response to if you want something.

Then again I shake my fist at clouds now, soooo...

Multiple times over the last few weeks variations of these have happened to me.  4 way stop sign, cars traveling north and south get to intersection at almost the same time, south bound car waits for north bound to be completely through the intersection before starting across.   I get waiting maybe a second to make sure north bound is really going straight.  I was behind the south bound car and they did this 3 different times.   Similar is when the south bound car is turning west, and they wait, or one car is turning east and one west, you can both go.

That's cool.

Can someone please change the title of this thread to "NON DRIVING pet peeves" please?
Can I ##### about the drive thru??

Lady in front in a mini van, I can hear her ask her passengers "what do you guys want" after she has been asked what her order is, and then she pulled up slightly so they could all see the menu.  It is Burger King, there aren't that many things on the menu.  Good 5 minutes of "oh, can i have a....." "Oh also a....''  then she added some sundae pie thingy, then another.  Pulled around to get the food.  Handed her 4 drinks in the cardboard drink carrier thing and she was #####ing about not needing it.  Then they gave her the bags of food and I could hear the worker say "The sauce is in the bags" and she responded with "I don't need straws, I already got them....", she sat there for another few minutes and then asked the drive thru person for the sauce for the pies.  I never wanted to rear end someone so badly.   Know your order before you pull in, and listen to the workers.   I was 20 feet away and understood everything.

I hate going to Sam's Club and have the cell phone sales guy ask me what carrier do you use?

I pay a F**king membership fee to be here. I shouldn't have to fight off salesman.

Ooh I forgot about this one but there's usually a DirectTV booth set up near the electronics section inside our Walmart.  I've lost count of how many times I've told that guy "I already have DirectTV" because that's the quickest way I've found to shut him up.

people have been on edge the last couple years... understandably... and also out of practice socializing.

I've had a number of situations lately where I've reacted to a person- in my mind and words, in a respectful and supportive manner, to have them jump down my throat- I think because they were just ready and raring to jump down ANYBODY'S throat that responded to them. most have chilled after a second comment from me... but some can't even hear it and just go into a rage.

gotten to the point where my daughter doesn't want me talking to anybody in public again.

In my little world, "I'm good" is definitely the response when offered something I really, really don't want.
Yea, this has been in my vocabulary since I was a child/

I guess I mostly say it as "Nah, I'm good" or "Nah, I'm all good", but it definitely does not mean I am good.

Also, if you’re ordering hella #### or customizing every detail of your order, go inside and don’t hold up the drive thru. Drive thru is supposed to be fast.

Don't most teens and tweens feel this way about their parents?

I thought that meant that the parents were doing it correctly.  Maximum embarrassment!
We can't sneeze without embarrassing or offending our daughter

My issue with donations is different.

A few times I have donated to a good cause and then I get harassed with mailers requesting more and more and more and more and more. You get the idea. It doesn't matter that I made a one time donation.

What is the point of a good cause when you waste the majority of my donation in postage and paper over the next 5 years???

Similar to this, if you sign an online petition for something, you invariably have to input your email address... which means you get all sorts of stuff from said company related to their cause.  Which in many cases is fine, but it's usually kinda overboard.  Look, man, I signed your petition.  I don't need 500 emails asking for me to do more.

I am in no ####### way giving money to the grad school I went to. Nor the undergrad I went to. Stop sending me ####. I know this is nothing novel, but seriously, I am still in debt from both you ####### places. GTFO and stop sending me alumni :bs:

My dad complained about this.  It was pretty bad.  I fixed the problem for us by dropping money in a kettle.  No one bothers you then.

Now I just donate to charities that don't pull this crap.  Unfortunately, I now get the fallout from my dead in-laws.  The causes they donated to are spamming us.

I told my university to go no contact years ago.  Stuff was still showing up at my parents' house three decades after I graduated.

I had this happen a few days ago:

Mobbin and Lil Mobbin walking out of the grocery store. We step into the crosswalk and a truck that’s going too fast for a parking lot has to stop and gives the visual “oh jesus, you made me stop and now my whole life is ruined”

I give the driver a glance, mostly just to be sure he’s not going to run us over.

He then rolls down his window and we have this exchange:

Him: you have a good day!

Me: Thanks, You too.

Him: You know you should try having a good day.

Me: I’m having a great day, you should slow down.

Him: You’re a real tough guy, huh?

Me: Yep, you should probably stop ****ing with me.

Him: *Pulls the truck next to me sharply, stops abruptly and says* IM HANDICAPPED, YOU WANNA FIGHT ME?!?!?

Me: No, I don’t want to fight you, I just want you to slow down in the parking lot. I also don’t care if you’re handicapped or not. Have a good day sir.

Now I probably escalated it when I said that he should probably stop messing with me but I was not in the wrong. I stayed cool and calm. So many people today do something wrong but when you react to their wrongdoings they act all indignant.

LOL at the "I'M HANDICAPPED"....wtf does that have to do with anything.

You should've said. "why don't you roll on out here and I'll give you another handicap to add to your Medicare"
