Can we discuss pet peeves here? (3 Viewers)

Why do people close their dishwasher doors all the way until they latch when the dishes arent clean?

If a guest interrupts the drying cycle on my dishwasher one more time I might lose my mind. But since they close it to the point of latching every single time, a latched dishwasher has no meaning to them. They just give it a yank every time.

Also if they latch it closed then when the thing is near full I have to look and see if the dishes are clean. Is itatched because it ran a cycle, or is it latched because somebody just latched it.
Maybe I don't follow but my dishwasher door is just like any other door like a microwave door refrigerator door. It just opens or closed.

Why wouldn't I have it closed if I'm not using it? However, my dishwasher has a light on the door that when it's done cleaning the light lights and you know all the dishes are clean. If you interrupt it, you just hit the start button again and restart it
When you close a dishwasher you can close it, or you can close it past the friction point.

The only dishwashers I have ever seen that dont have this are old school dishwashers that had a manual lock.

The little blue light tells me when the dishes are clean, not the door being latched. I don't want to catch me or my clothing on the door.

And why are guests touching your dishwasher at all? Never had that happen anywhere I've been.

We moved to arizona and this winter have had a steady stream of weekish long family stays.

If your sister or brother stayed with you for a week, you telling me you do all their dishes?

That's why we have a dishwasher.

I leave my dishwasher open unless guests are over. I want it to stay dry inside as much as possible. I also let my microwave air out after use if there's any condensation.

Restaurants that tell you their plates are meant to be sharable when they are clearly not. Went to breakfast today and they had plates like a fancy bagel sandwich, and a dish with sausage, potatoes, and one over easy egg.

How is a table of six supposed to share a bagel sandwich that comes to the table cut in half? Cut it further making the whole thing fall apart? And how is a table of six supposed to share a dish that includes one over easy egg?

I feel like restaurants push sharing to sell more dishes. We ended up ordering 8 dishes to share instead of just 6 if we weren’t.

Saying things are "on sale" when the meaning is they are "for sale".

"On sale" means there is a discount applied. So when it's days that "Concert tickets on sale now!", it's not true. They're available at full price. Thus they are FOR sale.

Nobody should ever give a kid a whistle as a toy.

In fact anybody that gives kids any noisemakers is worse than people that dont put carts back.
You only give kids noisemakers if you don't like their parents. 🥁
Pretty sure her parents gave it to her and said go outside and make all the neighbors want to run you over. She is back at it this morning.

Furniture place near me has been having a going out of business sale for over 20 years
Do they sell Oriental rugs? The only places I've seen those sold are in going out of business sales.

I’ve never been inside. But you’re right! Rug places are always going out of business!

That's illegal in Texas.

On the other hand (or foot), the Thai foot massage place by our burger joint has been having a "grand opening" for at least two years.

Jackholes that hold their gross death sticks out their open car windows, especially while sitting at a stoplight. Even if I'm a good 15-20 feet away, that smoke catches a breeze and ends up coming through my vents. Encountered one of these dolts this morning... a morning where it's actually pouring down rain in SoCal. My God, do you really need a fix that bad?

It never ceases to amaze me what a nicotine addict will endure to get their fix.

Yeah, and the stank.... man. I hang at one specific dive bar here in SoCal and they have this small "smoking patio". Some smokers will go out there for a bit and come back in and you can't tell they smoked anything. Others will come back in and I can smell them from 10 feet away. When my wife smoked she would always put a nice-smelling lotion on her hands and arms after being outside for a smoke. Couldn't ever tell she was a smoker.... even her breath.

You would think they would want the windows rolled up. That way they can more fully enjoy that menthol goodness.

Gross.

Probably mentioned in one of the previous 168 pages but I've been getting so bothered lately by drivers who make me wait while they back their car into a parking spot.
I don't get this one. You gotta wait for them to back out of the spot if they pull straight in. What's the difference?

Majority of the time when cars back into spot they block the path, in both directions, so you have no choice but to wait and again not only do you have to wait on them but typically a car coming from the other direction has to wait as well. Key here is if you are behind a car doing this you have no choice but to wait on them.

If they are exiting a parking spot you don't have the right of way and it's generally on them to wait for the path to be cleared to back out which means they wait on you to pass instead of you waiting on them to situate their car.

In short I view it as them basically saying/doing I'm going to take up your time to save me time later which is extremely inconsiderate.

I'm almost sure I've posted about this one earlier in the thread.

Backing out of a spot is basically just as quick as going out forwards...you're moving towards a large open area, and don't need enough precision to require you to do it especially slowly. Backing into a spot requires more precision and is way slower for most people than going in forward. Bonus points for annoyingness when the person backing in gets it a bit wrong and has to pull forward and try again.

I would guess more pedestrians get hit by people backing out of spaces than pulling straight out. It takes like 15 seconds for someone to back into a space - settle down

Here is my point about what should be a mute point. By 2024 we should be living in a society where no car should be required to go in reverse. Every house should have a circular driveway and every parking lot should be filled with middle spaces that can be driven straight out of. Going weeks or months without going in reverse should be a badge of honor. ⏩ 📛

Well unless they are 24/7, they do technically open daily. Maybe those are grand?

Certainly a repeat, but I don't care.

If the speed limit is 45, my inclination/tendency is to go 47-49ish. Why do so many others think 35 is the appropriate speed in a 45 zone? :stabby:
"I'm new here, don't have a license and/or have not taken driver's ed, and don't want to get pulled over."

When backing out of a spot most people wait for an opening. Then they back out into a huge wide area.

When people back into a spot they cant wait for an opening. They start off in the way. Then back into a small spot.

Yep. I think the reason we are seeing more of this is backup cameras.

Moot. It's MOOT.

It's a pet peeve of mine.

168 pages of folks bumping this thread with their pet peeves. Love it!

Mine - How we can post for a buy -in Regular season fantasy league here but moderators were up my rear-end for posting about a buy-in playoff Fantasy Football league. Then they were telling me that I can't bump the thread when posting who paid, and yet we can post here about the many pet peeves we have in unlimited fashion.

Someone should tell these guys that they're in the business of making money off of people like us who pay them to tell us what they're "guessing" might happen. Very tenuous spot. Probably shouldn't bother people who are trying to drum up more business for this great sham.

I HATE the backing into spots. HATE, HATE, HATE.

I will say that it's statistically safer. I worked for a large electric utility that was rightfully obsessed with safety. They know what they are doing when it comes to safety - and they preached backing into parking spots. EVERYONE's bonuses included a sizable (10-20%) safety measure - even office workers.

For the outside guys/gals - part of their measurements were spot reviews of the maintenance parking lots and whether everyone was backed into their spots.

So I can't really get mad when people do it ...but still hate it.

Love backing into spots. Quick get-aways! Mostly from work.
