Can we discuss pet peeves here? (8 Viewers)

I already posted about my hatred of automated phone systems, but for goodness sakes, when I'm in speech enabled systems, WHY IN THE **** DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT I SAID?

It's infuriating.:rant::rant::rant:

Why do men and women have different sizing numbers for clothes and shoes? It's not about the cut of the clothes it's the weirdness of a size 9 women's shoe isn't the same length of a size 9 men's. Women's size 42 pants means what??? It's a minor gripe but I'd like to know WTF the relative size of something is just based on a number... but no.

Men's and women's shoe sizes are different because, on average, men have larger and wider feet than women due to biological differences in bone structure and foot shape, requiring a separate sizing system to ensure proper fit across genders; this means a "size 10" men's shoe will not fit the same as a "size 10" women's shoe, even if the length is the same

Men's and women's pants sizes are different because men and women typically have different body shapes and proportions, with women generally having wider hips and smaller waists compared to men, requiring a different cut and sizing system to achieve a flattering fit on each body type; this means that a "size 8" in men's pants will not fit the same as a "size 8" in women's pants.

imagine going shopping with your wife/gf and the pants size she fits in were an 8 today, but next month they are a 42.

Men's pants are usually measured in inches, while women's clothes use some kind of arbitrary system, and different for each type of clothing.

Another thing about women's clothes. The higher end retailer it is, the smaller the size. If you go to Walmart or Marshalls she may wear a size 8. But at Belk or Nordstrom she would probably wear a 6. Jedi mind games.

Victorias Secret plays this game too. Makes women believe they are D cups, when every other lingerie place they’d be B cups.

I remember my mom trying on a size zero that was too big for her. WTF?

men: usually i wear a 34 but sometimes a 32 or a 36. number doesn't matter to me. i just wear what fits.

women: I AM AN 8! I AM NOT A 10! I WILL NOT WEAR A 10! THIS IS ********! I WILL NOT TRY ON A 10! THIS STORE IS FAT SHAMING AND I REFUSE TO SHOP HERE EVER AGAIN!

nobody is looking at the size tags on your clothes to judge your character

I remember girls in HS erasing the waist size on the Levis jean tag.

And yet, Seinfeld...
was he a size 30 or something??

My issue with clothing sizes is the non-uniformity of it all. There should be a metric system for all sizes. So an XL would always be a certain, fixed size across all brands.

When people ask me my shirt size I always shrug my shoulders because it is so heavily dependent on brand. I have shirts that are L and I have shirts that are XXL that all fit me the same way. So annoying.

This is why clothes are the thing I buy online the least. Seeing something up close with my own eyes beats guessing and then having to send it back. The main exception is something I've already bought before.

He would change the number on the tag on his jeans.

This one is a peeve within a peeve...

I think moving clocks forward and backward every year is ridiculous. If it was up to me, we'd go year round on DST...

But that's not the REAL crime here. Why on earth do the US and UK not change the clocks at the same time? I'm working for a company that has employees in both locations, and every just had their calendars trashed by any recurring meetings owned by someone on the other continent moving, while meetings owned by someone on the same continent stayed at the same time.

This might be worth going to war over.

32 ---> 31 (which makes it that much funnier)

Much less important than what you have to deal with, but that temporarily messed me up with some communication when my family and I took a trip to the UK around this time a couple years ago and I was clueless about it. We also walked by a store selling "last minute" Mother's Day flowers and I had a quick moment of panic that I somehow forgot all about planning for Mother's Day... until I remembered it was still only March and learned it's not on the same day over there.

Just try celebrating July 4th there. Nothing. Not even a firecracker.

Stupid layouts for drop-downs/buttons on Microsoft products.

The one that gets me at least once a week if not more is on Outlook. I use the flag/reminder function for emails. I flag an email, set up a "custom" reminder, which brings up a little pop-up window where you can select the day and time you want to be reminded of said email. It ends up being my to-do list, in effect.

Well, the little drop-down selector thing for the time you want to be alerted of the email ends up covering up the "Cancel" button. So, if you slip just a little bit and instead of hitting 11:00am, for instance, and hit the "Cancel" button, it kicks you out of the functionality completely and you have to start over.

It only results in maybe 5-10 seconds' worth of a re-do, but it's just annoying. You'd think MS' developers would notice that and re-imagine the functionality.

Reminds me on Teams....an incoming call and they put the hang up button as Red (and pickup Blue). Your initial instinct is to hit the colored button and it's been many times I hang up on the call when I meant to answer it.

Also somewhat related to this...

I'm in NY state, where they don't allow plastic grocery bags and charge for any paper bags you use. And this screen is part of the self checkout at one of my local stores. I use the self checkout for the speed and efficiency, and Just about every time I'm using one or two of their paper bags, I enter the number and hit the big green button on the bottom right, because that's what you usually do to hit Enter on a screen like this. Of course, I might just be slow.

That's okay, hun. We understand. The big button says, "No bags."

:lmao:
Yeah, that always dawns on me right after I hit the button. At least I usually don't use bags and it's after I've already typed in a '0', so it doesn't make a difference. Like I said... I'm all about efficiency. Why hit one button when you can hit two?

This drives me crazy with my wife. She returns about 80% of the clothes she orders on line. Guess who has to take them all back to be returned ?

Sometimes I will come out wearing a shirt that my wife says fits perfect. She will ask me the size and I say Medium. Other times she will say my shirt looks too big on me and ask the size. Of course I will say, Medium. WHY ?

How about you just say no?

Like I said. I understand the shape and cut needs to be different. But a size 10 woman's shoe is not close to a size 10 men's even in length. Why?
And what kind of F'd up metric do they use for pants?

What in god's name is going on with NBC Nightly News? Halee Jackson is running around the studio chasing cameras and pointing at all these different monitors showing the same thing. It's one of the craziest things I've seen. Who on earth is sitting around coming up with this stuff????

Agreed. Caught it last night and it looked like she was having a hard time keeping up with all the camera positions/layouts.

In honor of the first day of NFL free agency:

"Hingle McCringleberry is signing a 3yr/$40M deal with the London Silly Ninnies. Deal negotiated by agent Ari Gold."

Any supersleuths out there who can figure out where the reporter got that scoop?

Obviously, we all know how transactional the reporter/source relationship is. But do you have to be so blatant about it?

This kind of stuff is mostly harmless. But I still recall when Dalvin Cook's agent clearly leaked a story to Schefter to get out in front of a domestic abuse allegation. How can any self-respecting reporter allow themselves to get used like that? And why should any of us trust them?

I'll add that my viewing of "Free Agent Frenzy" on ESPN today lasted less than 90 seconds. This nonsense where these reporters are so busy and so important that they're filming them on their phones makes me want to do bad things, man.

day 1 of NFL free agency where every player signed is an overpay, your team isn't doing enough to sign the best players, your team signed someone who sucks and paid way more than the player deserved, every player your team lost in free agency is a bum who got overpaid.... every other team is making better decisions than your team and your GM sucks.

Packers got the best offensive Guard available. Chill.

Or Dallas. Their GM really does suck.
