***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (7 Viewers)

John Fox on not playing Mitchell Trubisky tonight: "If you watch the game, I don’t think it was an ideal time to put him in."
To be fair to Fox, I kind of agree with him if we're talking about the fourth quarter down 35-7. The team has given up, going through the motions, it's pouring with rain....there isn't much to gain really. Better off putting a line through it, starting over with Trubisky through this extended break and prepare with him for the Vikings. Now, deciding not to go with Trubisky down 14-0 or during the weather delay when you might still be in the game is another story....

That's the trouble with the Bears. They give up on a regular basis.

#Bears coach John Fox: "Everybody just wants to talk about the quarterback. We have more issues than the quarterback.” lol

I swear you just make it to a Superbowl or win a couple playoff games and it buys you ten years
Pretty much. And it keeps you in speculation forever. Cowher and Gruden still get linked to job offers. The only difference is they probably know that can't do it anymore combined with how comfy their life is now.

Exactly. I think Fox realizes that now and just wants out. Word from in the organization is Fox had already checked out during the offseason.

These were the three Ryan Pace quotes on the #Bears' pursuit of QB Mike Glennon in free agency that stuck out most to me. https://t.co/qGVvskWYYn

Pace missed so bad on this and has missed on a lot of FAs. Has to bring into his evaluations.

I guaran-damn-tee you if Trubisky comes into the game at this point the prevailing mentality would be "hell f-ing yes lets do this".  These guys are alpha males, they are driven to succeed, they want to play well, they are looking for any excuse whatsoever to get fired up.  You give them a new QB, one that's clearly the future of the franchise on the field, and they are going to go all out.  It doesn't matter if they can win that game, they are seeing their future unfold.  Anyone that's ever been in a remotely similar situation can relate.  It's a glimmer of hope where there was none.  You know Glennon's not the savior, but this guy might be?  I'm pretty sure there are about a dozen movies that start out just like this.  Those players would kill to be part of that narrative.

While I doubt the veracity of a source, I think it's pretty clear he's just going through the motions and would be content to get fired so he gets paid out.

You can doubt all you. I don't need to justify anything to random dudes on the internet. Offering up what I'm hearing from inside of the building. I don't care what you believe.

I wasn't doubting you had a source or what they were telling you, I'm doubting a source's ability to determine Fox was mailing it in over the offseason.  There are probably three people in the entire building that could accurately assess that at that time.

Receiving core sucks (foot)balls....Thompson lifetime body catcher....Bellamy body catcher....Kendall Wright he is what he is...Wheaton inconsistent catcher........The one guy who actually looked like he could develop (Gentry) on the practice squad....Its probably been decades since season tickets have been available.....That will change soon..

Man, that was a fun lunch.  Place we went to had NFL Network replaying the game with limited commercial breaks, got to see about half of it again...  Some reason lunch isn't sitting too well.

From ongoing press conference:

Fox on the QB situation: "We've got a nice little block of time here. ...We've still got to look at a lot of things and improve."

Fox: "I don't single out one position. There are 11 critical positions."

#Bears coach John Fox: "No QB decision at this point. Lot of things to look at."

Fox, asked to clarify his QB situation: "I'm not really trying to be clear...just the opposite." ...hey, at least that's an honest answer.

Fox on Trubisky: "I've seen steady growth."

79 of the players on the Bears' current 90-man roster were brought in by Ryan Pace. It's his team. That was from before the cuts.

Whatever his own issues, I don't care how competent you are, if you're the head coach and your team's first round pick is a surprise to you, it's gotta dampen your enthusiasm for the job.

He's a big boy and has been coaching a long time.  There's no more excuses.  That's not even a real one

Glennon looks woefully inaccurate and has no ability to throw the deep ball. Not mobile either. A bad combination of traits.  Even with limited playing time, Trubisky has shown he's already better than Mike.  And that gap will only widen with playing time.

Trubisky's stats through 3 preseason games: 34/48, 354 yards, 3 TDs, 0 Ints, 112.67 passer rating

Either way, Glennon will be starting the regular season, but on a short leash.  Tony Gonzalez just said after the game he'd be starting Trubisky week one.  It seems like an easy decision to me. He's better.
And Glennon displayed exactly what I said he would. Too bad Tony isn't  coaching this team. Seemed like one of the easiest decisions ever. Now, they've wasted a month and the players are starting to get disgusted.

Mitchell will start the next game or there will be chaos in the locker room. Glennon was never good. Ton of evidence he wasn't.  27 years old and still bad. 10 turnovers in 4 games.  But nothing would surprise me with Fox. Probably trot him out there again.

My concern is that the Bears have never been good at drafting or developing QBs. In the last thirty years who are the best QBs the Bears have drafted and developed? The last two, I think, were Jim Harbaugh and Rex Grossman. That is pretty sad. The Packers draft a QB almost every year. They constantly draft WRs. They consistently reload at those positions. The Bears treat both positions as a afterthought. Now they are expecting John Fox, who has never developed a QB as far as I can remember, to develop Trubisky.  I think they are going to bow to pressure and throw Trubisky out there before he is ready. I worry that they will screw him up.
