***Chicago Cubs Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Strop and Rondon did both look shaky last night, but Sutcliffe suggesting the Cubs should go get Rafael Soriano was ridiculous.
i thought strop looked alright... getting a little gimmicky with the quick pitch, and then did a longer pause with a high leg kick on one pitch... just needs to focus on pitching

rondon definately didn't "have it" last night. got through the inning though with a lucky strike 3 call on zimmerman

I've been so impressed with Fowler. Gets on base. 11 steals. Has hit for some power with 16 extra base hits. Defense has been at least adequate. He hasn't been a liability there as so many had suggested he would be. I wish he was signed for more than just this season.
at least the 1 year deal gives the cubs some options this off-season, and if fowler wants to stay, the cubs might have the inside track... but with hayward and justin upton both free agents, the cubs might get their pick of the litter

hayward is only 26 and upton is 28. fowler is 30. upton would probably cost the most

Luckiest moment was getting away with that pitch Harper laced to center field, right at Fowler.

Fowler is a Boras client. I can't stand Heyward. He's awful at the plate. Upton, ok, but he can't play center.

Almora is probably ready defensively, but they need to let him develop his bat a lot more. If Baez can mature his approach you might solve the problem internally anyway by putting him at 3rd and Bryant in left. Put Almora in the 9 hole. They'll probably make another stop gap move for 2016 if none of these scenarios work out.

I also think the big money they spend this off-season will be on pitching. I don't see them going after Heyward or Upton.

Strop has the better stuff, I agree. I love the guy, but yeah, he does seem to have a bit of an immaturity streak out there sometimes. I think he'll eventually be the closer, but Rondon has been adequate. At least, not bad enough to merit a switch.

I wish Soler could get it going.
Any discussion that Soler might be nursing an injury? His power is gone, both doubles and homers. It's only singles and walks right now.
I haven't heard anything about an injury. Still really struggling to make an adjustment with his plate discipline, as far as I can tell. Absolute miracle that he's hitting north of .270, considering how bad he's looked.

It seems like half of his hits have been little duck snort bloops into short right. He did hit a missile on Monday, but his swing is still soooo long, and he hasn't made an adjustment in laying off things he couldn't hit with an oar.

If they are running away with the Wild Card, maybe they will bring him up a little earlier. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Sept call ups are eligible for post season play.

I'm trying not to get too antsy or excited. It's really difficult. I want them to make "win now" moves too, but there's dynasty potential here if they're patient.

Do the cards ever lose?
Apparently the devil magic today came in the form of suspicious called strikes with two on and two out in the 9th. Plate ump saved Rosenthal from himself.
I knew there had to be some kind of black magic at work here.
There usually is.When DeWitt bought the team from the brewery, he had to agree to a 10-year dormant period for the club's dark magic. Once that period expired, it's been one good break after another.

status update: 9 game road trip coming up (3 @miami, 4@ Washington, 2(?!?!?) @detroit). lost 5 of their last 8 games. 4 games over .500. 6 back of the cards and only 1 up on the pirates.

I'm just enjoying watching them be competitive. There are still a lot of holes to fill. Soler is driving me nuts though. He's tough to watch on an every day basis.

Baez is heating up a bit. I imagine he'll be a trade chip here in a month or so.

Soler is infuriating.
His at bat yesterday against Davis drove me nuts. He managed to work it full somehow, but as soon as Perez went to the mound I knew Davis was throwing a slider nowhere near the plate. Sure enough, Soler flails at it. The situation doesn't even cross his mind. He's such an easy out.

Soler just needs to adjust. He'll do it. :prays:

Just 40.6% of the pitches he sees are in the zone. Tied for 8th in the league. So, pitcher know to just not throw him strikes.

(#1 is Harper btw, 36.8% zone%)

I'd start giving him 0-2 and 1-2 take signs. Bat him 9th. He can only swing on 2-0 and 3-1 counts. Seriously. He'd get walked four times a game if he'd just stop swinging.

Weird lineup with Bryant in LF and Lake hitting cleanup. Montero also on the pine vs a lefty. Hopefully Hendricks is on tonight

Javier Baez watch

Yesterday Baez went 1-for-3 with a walk in Triple-A and is up to a five game hitting streak. He also notched his first start at third base and has already played 15 games at second to go with 16 appearances at shortstop. Baez continues to punish minor league pitching to the tune of a .325/.397/.550 line before yesterday’s game, and at this point I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get a call up soon. He’s trimmed his strikeout rate from last season and is even running more. As Baez adds value to the big league club with his defensive versatility, count on him getting the nod shortly. Whether or not Addison Russell or Baez eventually takes plate appearances from Starlin Castro remains to be seen, but the Cubs can’t allow Castro to hit for an empty .267 with sub-par defense for long.

Is it a bad idea to wear opposing teams shirt/hat in the bleachers?
Bleachers?

Where?
Wrigley Field, not sure where, just somewhere in the bleachers. We plan on getting there early (June game)
Oh, because I was going to say there are no bleachers right now

No, you should be fine......Cub fans are a pretty easy going bunch.

Have fun
Ok guys, how about parking. Best places, worst places with not so far to walk. Any shuttle service? (and not so much $$$)

Anywhere near the park is going to be expensive. Upwards of $50(could be lower if you look around)Google Cubs shuttle.....there used to be a shuttle from devry that cost $6 per car. Pretty sure it still runs on nights and weekends
