Ghost Rider

Similar to the LZ one. What the heck, I figured, why not? :)

You can pick as many songs as you want.

We'll give it three days for this round. Be curious to see how much interest there is here. :)

I really like the one where the drummer sets a lively pace which is interrupted by several disconnected riffs and a whining unicornucopia of juvenile lyric imagery, but i cant remember its name.

Everything in the first section with the exception of In the Mood. Everything the section section with the exception of Natural Science. Everything in the third section with the exception of Between the Wheels and Big Money. Nothing in the fourth section.

Didn't expect this one so fast, but why not. Don't anyone jump the gun on me for Floyd though. <_<

Given my synth-light bias, found myself voting for tons of them prior to Signals, but only a handful thereafter.

several issues

1. Not too many top40 hits and therefore people vote for what they know vs what they don't know or don't understand. 2112 is simply not for everyone.

at laylist. Not many bands when they are done playing do audiences openly talk about not playing the songs they wanted to hear. I love Tom Sawyer as much as anyone but there are lots of other fantastic songs, many the band will likely never play live but fans would really enjoy listening to them play it. Actually, Rush is pretty good about playing a little from many albums but some folks are completely into 1 album, very educated fan base but also pretty picky to boot.

3. I'm glad you are posting up the songs but I would list the hots, the songs that are critically acclaimed and I might throw a choice up for a few songs but you might end up with some bizarre seedings with this vote...for example I would bet the house that most of the #1 and #2 seeds in this tourney will fall.

Good band to run the tourney on, should be interesting. A lot of folks seem to want to do one of these for the bands. We should let everyone have a go, Ghost took Rush, good call.

"Xanadu" from Exit, Stage Left. Mostly because of the drum sound and Peart. Possibly my favorite of Peart's drum style in a performance. I can tune out the stupid lyrics and just listen to the very musical drum parts and fills. Great use of flams too.

"Subdivisions" - I think Rush's signature tune.

Wait, where is the option where you can get away with not voting in one of the polls? I tried to edit it that way, but couldn't find anything. Am I blind, or can you only do that in the initial setup?

:lmao:I voted for Working Man because thats the only Rush song Ive ever heard that I liked

I don't know the entire Rush catalog, not one of my bands, although I do like a lot of what I've heard.

Anyway all my options are in the first two lists,

Red Barchetta

Passage to Bangkok

The Trees

But I can't vote.

Wonder how many other bands had as precipitous a fall as Rush. Awesome debut album, incredible run through Moving Pictures, then the wheels start to fall off and after Hold Your Fire, the wreck is complete.

Great, great band. But I think they tour because their albums don't sell because the music isn't good.

Their albums still sell pretty well, at least compared to those of their peers of similar age, and considering the overall dropoff in sales over the years thanks to the internet. 1993's Counterparts (a GREAT record) debuted at number 2 on the charts! And while their music of the 2000s isn't as great as the music from their peak era, it is still pretty darn good. Good luck finding a band that's been together for 33 years that made an album as good as Snakes and Arrows.

Not really a huge fan of their music. However, I was invited by a friend to go see them a few years back, and I have to say, they play their asses off. What great musicianship. Blew me away.

Passage to Bangkok

La Villa Strangiato

Entre Nous

Jacob's Ladder

The Camera Eye

YYZ

Red Barchetta

Marathon

Time Stand Still

Mission

Different Strings from the Permanent Waves album/CD should have been included in the poll. :banned:
That is another one that pained me to leave off. I love that song.
Nobody's hero? Really?
It's getting votes. I probably should have gone for Cold Fire over it from Counterparts, but I doubt either would go very far. But I wanted to go with an equal balance of songs from each album, while still giving more weight to the classic era.

Way too few votes for "The Camera Eye" - such a great song.
It is, but not only it is probably only the 6th best song at best off of Moving Pictures, it is, for me anyway, one of their least best "long" songs. As good as it is, it cannot touch 2112, Xanadu, La Villa Strangiato, Natural Science, Hemispheres or Cygnus X-1.

It's my favorite off the album, but that's me.As far as other long songs, the instrumentals "La Villa Strangiato" and "Jacob's Ladder" are also getting shortchanged IMO.

La Villa Strangiato and Jacob's Ladder (which is just mostly instrumental ;) ) are both in my Rush top 5, so I hear you on that one.

I went out and saw the Time Machine tour just to see The Camera Eye played live. It was always my favorite on MP. This harshing will not stand! The La Villa Strangiato was just a bonus.

Agreed to all but I prefer TCE over Cygnus X-1. Cygnus has not aged well for me.

That's a great top 20   , and I am especially glad to see both Mission and Marathon in there; both would be in my top 20, and one of them might break the top 10. I'd have several from Counterparts in there as well - Leave That Thing Alone for sure, and maybe both Animate and Everyday Glory.

Like I said...it is so hard to come up with 20 tunes. I love Cut To The Chase, Alien Shore, Cold Fire, Totem, Armor and Sword, Far Cry, Vaportrail, I could go on and on and on.But one thing is for certain 77-87 is the very best period of Rush AFTK-HYF was Rush in their absolute prime.BTW fellow Rush breathern I have very strong insider info to the upcoming tour that:2112 will be performed...not just side one....the entire album. Remains to be seen but it is on very strong information inside the band.

You've stood at the top of the mountain and had China sing to you?

Hard for me to argue with that, although I'd go back a year to 1976. I loved the synth era, which I know some did not. But I always have. It helps that Power Windows was one of the records that got me into Rush.
