***Chuck*** thread (2 Viewers)

It's official: NBC renews 'Chuck' (but there's a catch)

Never underestimate the power of a $5 footlong.

NBC has finalized a deal to bring Chuck back for a third season, multiple sources confirm.

That's the good news. Here's the bad news: The 13-episode pickup came after Warner Bros. agreed to make significant budget concessions, including scaling back the number of episodes several members of the show's stellar supporting cast will appear in and, per one insider, possibly eliminating one actor altogether (R.I.P. Anna Wu?). The show is also expected to cut two of its staff writers.

But back to the good news: Chuck lives on! Celebrate in the comments section!

For up-to-the-minute renewal-cancellation-pickup scuttlebutt throughout the weekend and into upfront week, stay close to both my blog (the one you're reading now!) and Twitter feed. And to track the status of your favorite bubble show, there's my Fall TV Cheat Sheet. Finally, for the official schedule announcements (beginning with Fox tomorrow) proceed to the Hollywood Insider blog.
:kicksrock: I hope. It is a great show and hopefully the budget cuts don't impact the end result too much. Part of the greatness of the show was some of the smaller role players, kind of like how some of the smaller role players in The Office add the great lines/comic relief.

So it's not starting back up until the winter?
Closer to Spring. It won't start until after the Winter Olympics air.But on a brighter note, some of the cost-cutting doom reports might be overreactions. Here's an interview with the creator of the Show from EW.com:

don't know about you, but NBC's official renewal of Chuck has been the highlight of upfront week for me. (ABC's cancellation of According to Jim finishes a very close second.) But it's time to bring the victory celebrations to a close and get down to business -- the business of asking questions. Will a tighter budget lead to a less awesome (and populated) show? Does the massive Subway deal mean an end to Sarah's yogurt shop? Will the midseason launch kill the show's momentum? Will Chuck and Sarah start dating for real? Will exec producer Josh Schwartz answer all of these and then some in the following exclusive Q&A? I can tackle that last one: Yes!

NBC said the show's budget will remain unchanged from last season. I'm hearing different. What's the deal?

JOSH SCHWARTZ: I can tell you that [Warner Bros.] asked us to make budget cuts to meet a decrease in the NBC license fee. That's how it was presented to me. That's as far as I know. My job is to then be able to produce the show at the number the studio is able to deficit it for.

How will the cuts affect what we see?

SCHWARTZ: Hopefully, you won't be able to tell. I don't think the look of the show is going to change. We might have certain episodes where Chuck's mission is such that we don't get the opportunity to go to the Buy More [as much]. We love our cast and, obviously, we want to use them as much as possible in as many episodes as possible.

I heard Julia Ling [Anna] might not return. True?

SCHWARTZ: No. We have plans for Anna to return.

Has she been taken off contract?

SCHWARTZ: We actually haven't finalized all of our actor deals yet. It's all being sorted out. But, like I said, we're going to do whatever we can to try to keep the ensemble together.

Will the show's central trio be in every episodes?

SCHWARTZ: Yes. Chuck, Sarah, and Casey are in all episodes.

Will Sarah be working at a Subway next season?

SCHWARTZ: [Laughs] You know, I don't know the full details of the Subway integration yet. I know it will be significant. Chuck is a show that happens to be well positioned for effortless product integration, especially because Chuck works at an electronics shop in a strip mall. If Sarah or someone worked at a Subway it would hopefully be no more intrusive or unrealistic than Liz Lemon working at NBC.

Are you concerned at all about the show being off the air for 10 months?

SCHWARTZ: It was really a tough choice that the network faced: Put us on Friday or [hold us until] midseason. I really believe Chuck is the little show that could. Our fans are clearly passionate, clearly loyal, and hopefully all we'll do is get them more and more [excited] for our return. And we'll come up with fun ways of stoking the fans throughout the fall. We also have something very, very fun planned for Comic-Con this year.

How about a season 3 spoiler in honor of the show's renewal?

SCHWARTZ: The biggest thing, obviously, will be dealing with the ramifications of how we ended the season. What does it mean for Chuck [and] how will it manifest itself? And I think for anyone who is concerned that he's no longer going to be the Everyman, or an accidental hero, fear not.

I'm cool with him still maintaining some of his geeky 'everyman/accidental hero' schtick, but I look forward to him kicking a little more ### as well, or maybe even, dare I say it, killing some bad guys. Chuck isn't some teenager still under some childhood innocence illusion, he's a man who needs to realize he's in a 'kill or be killed' world. The show and Chuck need to evolve, not try to repeat the past 2 seasons.

Nope, still can't explain it. The writing isn't anything amazing (although the "Sam Kennison and the Indian Lesbian" line from the finale they re-aired Friday on Sci-Fi is up there) and there aren't any amazing acting jobs on it (although Yvonne is amazingly hot). But Chuck is, by a large margin, one of my favorite shows on TV. It has picked up right where it left off, and, until LOST is back, it's the highlight of my TV week.

did what i think happened at the end of episode 3 happen or is it just a cliffhanger?

i don't want to ruin it for others, so i won't post what 'it' was

you didnt see anything happen at the end of epidode 3, so what you think is likely incorrect.

I seriously hope that's not what happened. The end of the episode had me feeling pretty bummed. It would be a huge mistake IMO.

Next time, just use the [ SPOILER ] tag. But no one died at the end, if that helps, as he is in the previews for next week needing Chuck's help. (and the ep. name is Chuck vs Operation Awesome)

I like the new girl more than Sarah. Didn't expect to ever type that...
Kristen Kreuk was supremely annoying in Smallville. So far, that isn't the case on Chuck, luckily. She was very likeable, and I'm looking forward to see where it goes, but I still prefer Sarah.

:lmao:
kristen kreuk was downright perfect in this episode. ridiculously cute.
She got annoying in Smallville, but she was still one of the reasons I watched it as long as I did. Still haven't watched anything from this season, but I did catch up through the end of last eventually.

I missed some episodes last season. How did Capt. Awesome find out Chuck was a spy?
He snuck into Casey's apartment because he was worried that Casey was a stalker, and triggered a security lockdown in the apartment as he found all the surveillance on Chuck. At that point, there was no way to lie it away, so Chuck told him

I'm about three years late to the party, but just saw a preview of the show and didn't realize that Ricky Lindeman from My Bodyguard is in this.

I can't believe I've somehow missed this thread for three bleepin' years.

Chuck is one of my favorite shows, and Yvonne Strahovsky is firmly entrenched in my TopFive. She's outstanding.

And to add one non-hormonally produced admiration post, the fight scene with Chuck and Sarah handcuffed was nicely choreographed, and the Casey/Morgan portion of the fight was nicely reminiscent of the first season fight with Chuck tied to Casey's back. A definite  to all the non-Yvonne's panties sections of last night episodes

There were fight scenes?

I was still picturing Sarah in her panties.

Hoping they can keep the good shows coming with chuck and sarah now officially together.

Just saw a show the other day about tv blunders and they listed off all the shows that crashed and burned after the main characters finally got together.

Once again the writers know what we want with that opening scene and Sarah wearing her nightie :excited:

I'm also a bit worried that they've put Sarah and Chuck together.

The great part about this show is that it was a sitcom without being a sitcom; and an action show that didn't take itself too seriously. The real energy of the thing was the contrast between the silliness of the Buy More and Chuck's attempt to have a real life while being the poor man's James Bond.

If it becomes a boy meets girl story then it will begin to decline.

And really, Chuck? No guns in the house? Why don't you try and man up a bit, buddy?

And really, Sarah? I could never love Chuck if he killed that guy on the train tracks? Even though I, myself, am a trained killer. And even though that guy was going to kill Chuck and not think twice about it.

The Casey and Morgan thing has some legs, though. I hope they play that out a bit.
