***Chuck*** thread (1 Viewer)

Awesome is definitely awesome.
Jeffery: Have you ever had a dream not come true?

Awesome: ......No.

Not long after that gem, Lester was wailing out Toto in the Buy More. If that episode happens to be the pinnacle of the series, I'd be fine with that.

I really appreciated that they made Lester a terrible singer. I was convinced he'd really have the voice of an angel, but that wouldn't have been very funny.
Lester does have a bad voice for most of the performances, but he nails "Take on Me" in the Series final episode.

I also am re-watching, almost done with Season 3. I love it though Brandon Routh is a horrible actor. Has no emotion at all

Chuck will always be in my Top 20ish and I look forward to rewatching it at some point, so many laughs/cheesy action scenes/hot broads/etc. It is a hard show to recommend because trying to explain it makes it sound like a show for hs nerds. Thanks to Dexter for simplifying things, "Younger Hannah McKay is a sexy spy for 5 seasons, try it out".

Great opening by Cake too. I watched this before Arrested Development so it will be hilarious to go back and see Buster run a Buy More. Seems like he plays the same character in both shows.

Polished off Season 2. Holy #### balls, that was one of the greatest seasons of TV I've ever seen (well, top 20 at least).

I can't imagine what it would've been like to watch that season live, not knowing if the series would get another season.

That's pretty much the only reason I decided to check it out.

Loved the show, watched the first 3 seasons live but lost interest in season 4. The funny thing is that it wasnt getting Chuck & Sarah together, that part still worked well and that usually kills shows when its "will they or wont they?" It was still entertaining but something felt missing to me, once Chuck stopped being a bumbling nerd trying to be a spy and actually was one kicking ### all the time i think that is where it lost its magic for me. Plus all his family & friends knowing he was a spy took away from it as well. This is one of the few shows I own on Blu-ray and I showed my fiancé a few weeks ago, she immediately got hooked and we've been doing a marathon ever since and are now in season 5.

It did suck originally because it got such little support from NBC. The writers strike shortened season 1 IIRC, and season 3 was only a 13 episode order and they got picked up for more episodes after they had already planned out the series end. So the tail end of season 3 feels off compared to the rest of the season. Theres also tons of obvious product placement to help pay for the show like the constant Subway sandwhich references. I disagree that the end of 2 or beginning of 3 are bad, end of 2 is one of my favorite stretches.

With no football, I went most of the way through Season 3 over the weekend.

S3 has mostly held up compared to the amazing S2, but I must say, I got pretty annoyed with pretty much everything involving Shaw and everything leading up to Chuck and Sarah getting together.

Some plot holes glaring through, and while I get it, Sarah's "no kill policy" on Chuck was starting to piss me off. Chuck can't off a guy, so she goes running into the arms of yet another cold-blooded killer? Apparently, they can only be together if Chuck becomes a spy, but when he does the deed to become one, she's out? Ugh.

The double-standard makes sense, I guess. Shaw was always only going to be a fling, so it didn't matter. A spy girl's gotta get her rocks off, right? But you expect more of the true love.

Anyway, all that felt forced or fumbled or something, but it didn't matter. They needed the drama before the pay-off. It was worth it. Chuck vs. The Other Guy was some fantastic stuff, and the episodes I saw with the crime fighting couple seem like that's going to work very well.

Who knows how long that'll last well, I guess you guys do), but it seems like it'll be fun until it does. I assume they've got at least one big break-up and probably some more Shaw's and Hannah's before ending up back together in the end. If any of that's right or wrong, please don't tell me. I know I enter this thread at my own risk though.

Still great stuff throughout the mid-late S3, even with some hiccups along the way. At all times, the show is just damn fun to watch.

Oh, and thank heavens they finally got Morgan involved. His character was really starting to be pretty useless, but he's great as a member of Team Bartowski.

Sucks he can't watch "Pretty in Pink" anymore though.

Wait till the end of season 4
I should be more embarrassed about this, but the PV household has gotten a dusty on a number of occasions watching this show so far, and never moreso than Chuck finally telling Morgan. So happy for both of those guys.

At the same time, you've got Jeffster up stairs wailing out "Fortunate Son". For my money, not many shows will ever achieve such a wonderful moment as that.

Anyway, excited to see what Morgan can do.

Been good so far. I saw Morgan do a successful "Morgan" on the train, which was all kinds of awesome. And it's nice to know that knowledge of your best friends comic book buying habits can help the country.

End of S3 was fantastic. 2nd to last episode had my stomach in knots.

S4's started out well, but boy, they really start to test your patience with neurotic, insecure relationship Chuck. Spent 3 seasons rooting for Chuck to get the girl, and it only took 2 episodes into S4 to make me wish she'd dump his whiny ###. I'm sure they'll work that out though. All the seasons seem to start kind of slow and end with a fury.

And if there's ever been a creepier line that made me laugh than "you got room in that womb for two?", I'd love to hear it.

Quality definitely dipped a bit for most of S4, but I thought they really got it going again over the last few episodes.

Same as with Morgan in S3, getting Ellie involved pretty much saved her character. (And of course, Intersect Morgan should be fun)

I want to see a spin-off of Casey hanging out with Mrs. Winterbottom.

The whole sequence with the vows and Sarah in the hospital was rough. Not sure I've been that upset about a living character since Kima got shot.

Finished S5. Holy ####, what a ride that show was.

It's amazing how that show sneaks up on you.

It's a breezy spy comedy that doesn't take itself very seriously or seem very ambitious.

But next thing you know, you are crying like a little school girl.

Also amazing, for a show that you knew would never go dark (for very long at least), and would always have a happy ending, I was panicked for these characters.

So many very serious and dark dramas trying desperately to make you feel that way never could. But somehow this stupid spy comedy with plot holes galore can.

Just amazing work and I'm still not totally sure why. But I know there weren't 10 shows I enjoyed watching more.

Well, we still aren't sure if it ended 100% happy, but I think it did.

And I was   when she said "Chuck...Kiss Me"

The show was definitely more than the sum of its parts. I think mainly due to the likability and chemistry of the cast as a whole. I'm hard pressed to think of show with such a deep cast that all added something to the show. I think I would seriously have watched a show with just the Buy More staff... well, at least if YS was in it with her Wienerlicious uniform.

Yeah, the last last line was pretty much perfect.

Emotionally, I hated watching the last 2 episodes. The series felt like it was heading towards a victory lap of sorts (after Shaw, which I think was on of the many Chuck episodes written as a possible series finale). That was probably a horrible idea for a TV show, but that's what I wanted to see.

I wanted 3 sappy episodes chocked full of extended Bartowski family dinners.

Next thing I know Sarah's getting her memories destroyed. What a jarring scene, btw. Strahovski was, as always, phenomenal. It hit a little close to home (my wife had a massive brain injury a week after we got engaged), but it also screwed up the 'Chuck' ending I was settling in for.

I hated almost every minute of it, but it was probably brilliant.

For a show that never really went dark, they went dark in about the cruelest possible way you could imagine in the end.

Not just for Chuck, but for the audience. I know I was already a little sad that there were only a couple of episodes left to spend with these characters, then they prematurely took Sarah away. I have no doubt she came back, but the audience never saw it.

Also brilliant that for a show that made things a bit too tidy oftentimes, they didn't cop out on anything at the end.

They stayed true to the characters and squeezed every drop of emotion out of the viewer. For Chuck, there's no more fitting end.

So true.

I could see that (losing interest in Season 4).

Not sure how far you are into Season 5, but they really pulled off an amazing turn-around. Usually, shows that look like they are losing it late in the game don't get it back, but they did. I think the middle stretch of Season 5 might be the show's best stretch ever (or at least approaching S2 greatness).

Intersect-free Chuck helped them get back to Chuck's goofy, nerdy roots.

I disagree about the family knowing being a problem. I think Ellie should've known far sooner (probably Morgan too). For both characters, as we got further from S1 without them knowing, they were becoming more and more useless. When they found out, it opened up a new world of writing possibilities and interactions.

I loved those damn Subway ads. The Siena and Corolla ads too. I don't mind product placement at all, and I appreciated that if they were going to do it, they were going all the way with it. They generally added a good bit of comedy too.

Not really sure how i felt about the finale storyline...
Not sure either.

Part of me hated it, but they probably couldn't really do my personal preference of 3-4 episodes of Chicken Pepperoni dinners.

They probably had to put the relationship in some sort of jeopardy, and this was probably the best way to do it.

Not having the Sarah that we'd seen develop over 89 episodes royally sucked, but it was a worthy ending I think.

Maybe the movie will really happen, and it if does, that would pretty much take any sting out of the ending.

I just watched the season 4 finale with their wedding. Couple of thoughts.

Morgan never said Sarah's name when they were doing the vows. Sarah said "I do" before Morgan could read the name. Didn't want her real name spoken?

And then who walked Sarah down the aisle? Was it Casey? Devon? Big Mike? My money is on Casey

Could be. I remember just thinking she was just eager to say it. I don't remember much about it though.

Sadly, it probably won't be long before I've circled back to it. I'd like to catch up on The Americans and House of Cards, but I just want to re-watch Chuck.

Speaking of, I saw Chuck vs. The Best Friend again, and I'm not sure an episode of TV gets much better than that. You had:

-Sarah/Smooth Lau car fight

-The birth of Jeffster. And you know., Africa

-Jeff dropping 8-mile to get Lester to perform

-Sarah's reaction to the car blowing up

-The scene in castle with Chuck explaining why Morgan's so important to him (if that doesn't cause to tear up, you aren't human)

-Chuck, shortly after, having to humiliate Morgan to save him

-Morgan telling Chuck to "butch it up" as this sappy bromance is getting out of control

-Awesome being Awesome ("Ever had a dream not come true".."no" and "fine, if you're okay with the drive thru after you've gotten used to fine dining"

Perfect blend of the action, comedy, and emotion that makes Chuck so great.

That episode is one of the best. And don't forget Sarah saying, "It's tough because I don't have anybody in my life like that" and Chuck saying "Yeah you do".

And I think that fight was one of the most brutal they had on Chuck. Loved the fight in the car

I just finished the rewatch and ended on Season 4. I don't think I want to watch Season 5 again, yet...It was too inconsistent for me and the first few episodes with Morgan as the intersect were so bad IMO

Just plowed through this with the girlfriend recently, finished it tonight. What a great, great show. So hard to describe why but a few posters on this page nailed it. I think it would have suffered less from the "this is the REAL big conspiracy...just kidding, THIS is the real big conspiracy...really though, these are the string-pullers!" stuff if they weren't always afraid of being taken off the air. They had to escalate each season like it might be the last, but they made it work. Kinda sad it's over for us now, what a great, fun show filled with a surprising amount of heart.

Chuck was Awesome. I watched it from the very beginning when it was on tv. Maybe it will get Netflixed and we can get another season or two of Chuck someday.

They were almost getting pulled of the air every year. I was a fan of the show, and it was always praised yet getting crushed in the ratings. Still, it was a cool show and I enjoyed it up until the Chuck/Strahovski storyline turned into Chuck pouting an often lot, enough to make her seem cold and Chuck unlikable.

Rewatching it again...Just finished "Chuck versus Santa Claus" in Season 2. One of the finest episodes they produced.

Will watch through Season 4. Not sure if I will slog through Season 5 (But will watch Sarah's Mom episode and the finale).

The whole series is streaming on prime.  Watching with the family for the first time (saw a few episodes here and there).  Towards the end of season 1 now.  Great stuff.

fun!  If you like the first season, you are good to go for all 5.  Wonderful show, very under rated imo.

Just rewatched again myself.  Loved this show. Even though it’s <10 years old, they’d never be able to “objectify” like that today.  There was some serious eye candy in that show.
