I don't read anything into projections. These "experts" over at ESPN, etc. are just blowholes. They ripped Heckert for drafting Ward in the 2nd... IIRC, they said that Ward would have went in the 4th round at the earliest, then after the draft, reports came out that multiple teams were going to grab Ward in the 2nd.Projected - Undrafted
Some DT named John Hughes. I seem to be having trouble finding more than that...What did I miss?
Shut your trap, whore.I'd rather have Mike Adams
Thanks... will take a look. Some DT named John Hughes. I seem to be having trouble finding more than that...What did I miss?
I hear you...but when I click on a guys name I expect to at least see some info...glad somebody found some goods. Seems like a questionable pick...I don't think that can be disputed.I don't read anything into projections. These "experts" over at ESPN, etc. are just blowholes. Certainly seems so with the Hughes pick. I mean at this point in the draft, teams are still picking from their top 50 for the most part right? I find it strange that a guy like this is in anyone's top 50.Seems like we have been reaching some this draft. A hint of desperation from the front office. They know more than I do so I will keep the faith
Maybe so... I don't watch a lot of college football and like I said above, the "experts" are blowholes... guess I'm just more relaxed this time of year than others. I would be happy with either or both Joe Adams and Greg Childs from Arkansas. Adams is smaller but explosive. Great punt returner too. Childs is bigger and slower, reminds me some of Little. I wouldn't mind the Browns taking both in the 4th and seeing what they could bring to our WR corp. What about Greg Childs? He was highly thought of before the ACL injury... might be worth a shot.
ZINGSo it looks like Heckert only had a few WRs rated highly and has been content to pass on the rest so far. At this point it's just going to be a late round flyer if we pick one. I'm guessing we bring in one mid range WR through FA or trade somehow.Tell your boyfriend to aim better.I have a swollen bottom lip right now.rizzler...just save yourself from carpel tunnel...we know what your gonna type.
@twithersAP#Browns GM Tom Heckert doesn't view wide receiver as a priority or a need in this draft. "We're not going to just take one to take one."
@dpbruglerOk #Browns fans, my notes on DT J. Hughes: Naturally strong, very raw fundamentals - doesn't use hands effectively, tight, streaky motor@dpbruglerMore notes on DT Hughes: Can sink & anchor at POA but limited range and needs to use eyes better, skill-set of a NT but needs to refine tech
@MarkSchwabThe Browns traded Julio Jones for Phil Taylor, Weeden, Greg Little, Marecic & the 4th rounder sent to MN to ensure Richardson.
No. The first problem is he never got a chance with weapons around him to show other teams what he can do. The Browns must trade him now though and I think they know it. You tell the kid he's the man and that your not going after a qb in first round and then do exactly what you told him your not going to do. I think they lost McCoy now forever. McCoy can't ever trust what the franchise tells him. I'm guessing he will be moved sooner than later.Any chance the Browns can move McCoy for anything of value now?
LinkHe (Shurmur) also dismissed a report that the Browns were shopping McCoy on the second day of the NFL draft Friday, but didn't rule out moving him in the near future.
"We've drafted a quarterback to come in and compete with him -- at this point -- and that's where it's at," he said.
He also said a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Browns told McCoy Thursday that they wouldn't draft a quarterback in the first round "was absolutely false. For the record, we don't consult our players about what we're doing in the draft. I think it's ridiculous to assume that we would say those things. I just want to be strong about the no."
I see Massie is still out there too. It's very easy to look at McShay's, Kiper's, and Mayock's best player available and wonder what the eff is going on when we "reach." Keep in mind though that while we hacks cruise the net at work, watch limited films, and read, this stuff is the front office's full time job. We don't have the luxury of having the players in for interviews. We as fans aren't able to reach out to a college coach to get scouting reports. We don't have the luxury of pulling up every single game tape of a said player's college career and isolating that player. It's easy to look at the Schwartz pick and say "Why not Massie?" It's easy to look at the Hughes pick and say "Why not Joe Adams? Criner? McNutt?" But there's more to it than selecting what appears to be the best player available. There has to be a culture fit. Each coach has a style of player he likes, each team has an identity they are trying to establish. Richardson runs over people. Weeden is big and tough. Schwartz and Hughes have a mean streak. It seems like we're building for some smashmouth football, guys.
Ya think? In 3 years, Weeden will be a 31 YO QB that's still developing. On the surface I don't believe in 2-3 years the fans will do cartwheels over this draft...at the same time I feel sorry for fans in Cleveland. I just don't see the player that is turning around this franchise right now. I guess if you take TRich, you gotta try and build up more of the OL.
If Cleveland bombs this year they have a good shot at grabbing a franchise QB next year. If Weeden pans out quickly, better days ahead.
You can spin this a couple ways.
Rich Gannon was 34 before he went to his first Pro Bowl...In 3 years, Weeden will be a 31 YO QB that's still developing.
Kurt Warner is a nice example too.Maybe Weeden is the next Warner or Gannon, but I just don't think the 1st round is the place to take that gamble.Rich Gannon was 34 before he went to his first Pro Bowl...In 3 years, Weeden will be a 31 YO QB that's still developing.
Actually, with the new CBA and an extra 1st rounder it's exactly when you want to take it.'pollardsvision said:Kurt Warner is a nice example too.Maybe Weeden is the next Warner or Gannon, but I just don't think the 1st round is the place to take that gamble.'msommer said:Rich Gannon was 34 before he went to his first Pro Bowl...'pollardsvision said:In 3 years, Weeden will be a 31 YO QB that's still developing.

The best case scenario for Richardson is that he'll have had a couple of good seasons, which means he'll be looking to get paid. Of course, it's always a very dumb move to pay big bucks to a RB, but the Browns will have to because, you know, they pissed away the #3 pick to draft him.
Or, he'll be frustrated from trying to carry a crappy offense and be trying to figure out his way out of CLE.
The 2nd scenario isn't actually the worst because, at least in that case, they won't have to pay him.
Wait, Browns fans are celebrating the use of the #3 and #22 picks on a RB and a 28 YO QB?My apologies for interrupting.Go troll somewhere else ladies.'pollardsvision said:Ya think? In 3 years, Weeden will be a 31 YO QB that's still developing.'Ministry of Pain said:On the surface I don't believe in 2-3 years the fans will do cartwheels over this draft...at the same time I feel sorry for fans in Cleveland. 22 is a place where you either get starters at less flashy positions such as nose tackles and guards, or you gamble on a skill player. There is no such thing as a sure thing at skill position at 22. QBs, RBs, and WRs have some flaw there; if they didn't they would be top 5 players. Players lasting more than 6-7 years are the exception rather than the norm so if Weeden can give us 5 good years at his full potential, I don't just accept it, I am thrilled.'pollardsvision said:Kurt Warner is a nice example too.Maybe Weeden is the next Warner or Gannon, but I just don't think the 1st round is the place to take that gamble.'msommer said:Rich Gannon was 34 before he went to his first Pro Bowl...'pollardsvision said:In 3 years, Weeden will be a 31 YO QB that's still developing.

I wasn't aware that having the opinion that those weren't great picks constituted trolling. I guess this thread is just for celebrating the many brilliant decisions of the Browns. Look at the big picture, man. Cleveland has a better than average defense, 10th overall and on the rise. Our pass offense is for crap. After countless three and outs, the defense broke a bunch of times in exhaustion. The explosive running back will eat up clock, keep the other offense off the field, keep our d fresh, and actually close out games for us.I wasn't aware that having the opinion that those weren't great picks constituted trolling. As I think about it, the Weeden pick isn't completely terrible. If he's a really good QB for the next 7-10 years, his age won't matter. I wouldn't have done it, but it's justifiable.
I just don't see any good reason for the Richardson pick.
I got bashed for criticizing the Titans for giving CJ that contract. My reasons for that apply here too.
Investing limited resources, be it cap space or valuable draft picks, to try and secure one elite RB is a terrible idea.
Travis Benjamin? Are you kidding me?
Go ahead guys, jump off the ledge, I'm tired of trying to get you back in the building.Travis Benjamin...because one Josh Cribbs ain't enough.
