It's still too early, but if this is the scenario then Cleveland holds the cards at pick #4. Y'all know Denver's picking the QB. If you want him then you need to deal with us. And this includes Denver. Make them pay to move up one spot, so we get the guy we'd pick at #4 anyway plus more ammo.

I'm generally not in favor of taking a running back with a top pick but if you take a RB that high then they had better have one of the all around most impressive RB workouts at the Combine evaah and Saquon nailed it.

It doesnt matter what their ratings are right now. It also doesnt matter what their rating are on draft day. What does that have to do with this? This isn't Mayfield specific. If they plan to draft a QB at the top, waiting till pick 4 would be risking that they get their 3rd rated QB, no matter what their ratings are.
Simple. It's idiotic to mess around with QB like that.
Well, unless they magically have all three QBs ranked the same like some have suggested as a realistic possibility.

You're second point is exactly right, things aren't equal --- we don't football win games like other teams do --- and is the reason why your first sentence doesn't matter. Which brings me to your third point about "good players want to win" which loops us right back to where we were. I don't think we're losing football games because we can't attract these good players to take less money with us.

Not being able to attract the very top free agents to take less money in Cleveland is not why those numbers are in the history books.
We locked in a couple good FA's last year. Do that again this year, and draft well again this year, then we're onto something. Build the strong foundation, win football games, and they'll come.

Seriously tho, I've been in the camp of get the QB first then use 4 for BPA (which I thought would have been Barklety, B.Chubb, or Minkah). But having seen some of this, I'm leaning more towards Barkley at 1 with your QB pick at 4. NYG sounds like they're sticking with Eli and most likely go OL or DL. Indy is a bit of a wild card, but I could see them trading out to get more picks - or draft Luck's replacement at 3. One, if not two, of Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield will be there at 4. Unless there is a clear cut top QB out of these three, I wouldn't mind waiting til 4 to grab a QB after taking Barkley 1st.

If you dont take barkley at 1 and you roll,with darnold or rosen. I think,nyg or indy takes barkley...then clev probanaly,trades back w nyj or denver or takes chubb.....i think id rather have barkley and baker.....

That's it exactly. If one QB is head and shoulders above - take the QB. If you have them grouped as very similar, you take Barkley and draft the QB next.ghostguy123 said:

That's because many have been FF GMs but not NFL GMs. Nor do they know any NFL GMs. Or have ever talked to an NFL GM. Or been in the room with an NFL GM. I also imagine many in this thread that think they think like NFL GMs actually have no clue how an NFL GM really thinks. So there's that.

If you have actually followed football or have any sense of logic, it's not difficult to figure out how NFL GMs think (that's not meant as an insult to you, I'm speaking in general terms to defend my position). No NFL GM, worth his salt, would even\r "settle" for the second or third or fourth best QB in the draft when he had the chance to take the best one - and if he did, his credentials should surely be questioned. It's also not logical to assume that after the whole process is completed that Dorsey would see 2-4 QBs all as "even". That would also make me question his credentials.
I guess I should learn to never speak in absolutes, but at the very least I would be shocked if the Browns take a QB at 4 (unless they get an outrageous package to trade down). Assuming they are going to take a QB at all, they will take him at 1 otherwise.

Who could possibly criticize the track record of the GMs with the Browns?
A constant trickle of veterans leaving was one thing but not signing Alex Mack to an extension when he was promised that by the previous regime so he rightly got upset and left. Not signing Schwartz to an extension on top of losing Mack when both were in their prime leaving a huge hole. Curious draft decisions that left people scratching their heads like Justin Gilbert, CB with pick #9 >>> 12: Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Giants No. 13: Aaron Donald, DT, Rams but only thirteen picks later. 22 Johnny Manziel, QB. >>> No. 32: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Vikings 36, Derek Carr, QB, Raiders.
Just a few of the glaringly bad GM decisions without even bringing up the QBs who have last names beginning with W.
I loved 'some' things that our GMs have done but on the whole... I mean really? Putting down fans who have the audacity to think they could do better?
We're not talking a high or even average bar here.

I have actually said I wouldn't want to spend the assets it would take but if Mac had a guy and went for it I would be fine with the move. I also said if the Browns get a great package, then I could see not taking a QB at 1 (but that would be the only way).
How does anything I say effect what actually will happen? Answer, it doesn't so what good would having an agenda do?

Dorsey has said that he was open to taking calls for the top pick. With two top-four picks he could move one of them and still get a blue chip player.

If the Browns got a great package to move out of 1, while I probably would not agree with them doing so (eventually you need to get impact players instead of always trading down), I would at least understand the move. If the Browns use the top pick on a non-QB and take a QB at 4, I would seriously question their GM, that's all. I actually think Dorsey has a good track record so I'm expecting that he will make the right moves, on paper at least.

The Browns will get calls for the first pick. Kirk Cousins will go to a team but others will want to move up. The Browns will very-likely select a QB with the top pick and more than likely another QB will go #2. With Barkley's phenomenal Combine on top of his solid production it would not surprise me to see him go #3.
A QB that someone likes will very-likely be available with the #4 pick.
IMHO the great Combine by Saquon Barkley increases the trade opportunities for the Browns pick at #4.
The key IMHO is landing the franchise QB first and foremost and then getting a blue chip player.
If we can trade down from #4 and still get a blue chip player then I'm all for it.

I like taking Barkley at 1 and Josh Allen at 4. Cleveland would be my new favorite AFC team. Can you imagine Allen to Gordon all day?

I'm not sure the Giants take a QB at 2 anymore, Recently I have read they like Barkley or even Nelson there. That of course would actually make the Browns #4 even more valuable though if the Colts took a non-QB.

I don't and have never bought the G-Men passing on taking a QB with the #2 pick. I think they want Rosen.
If we could trade down from #4 their are three that I would want to come away with.

As much as people love the brash a-type personality, I wonder if this isn't a flaw. Who are the HOF QBs who came out of college with this attitude? Does Elway qualify? Bradford is damaged goods, McCarron makes some sense as he knows Hue and can hold the fort down until Daronld/Rosen/Baker are ready. What about Kizer though? I know hes terrible but throw him to the wolves early season too is a possibility
Bradford is hurt and should never be counted on for a full 16 but they might believe he can be a mentor to a young QB and be a short term bridge until the QB they take at 1/4 is ready.
The way Kizer was treated might have ###### his growth but if they commit pick #1 or #4 on a QB he is in a bad spot. Young developing QB's need reps and I'm sure they'd rather commit those reps to the QB they pick. This is why I believe pairing a QB picked at 1/4 with a veteran ready to play now appeals to them.
FWIW I only saw the tweet I posted when Joe Banner retweeted it saying this was most accurate thing he'd seen put out.

The Browns ideal situation is:
Browns trade the #1 overall to the Broncos for the #5 overall and the Broncos #1 in 2019. Broncos would take Josh Rosen. Giants would go Darnold or Mayfield. Colts go Barkley. Browns take either Darnold or Mayfield at 4. Browns then call the Jets and tell them someone wants to trade up to #5 for Josh Allen. Jets agree to trade the #6 plus their 2nd rounder to the Browns for the #5. Jets take Josh Allen. Browns select Chubb or Fitzpatrick at 6.
Browns come away with something like Sam Darnold, Bradley Chubb, a second round pick in 2018 and a first rounder in 2019.

Technocally Bradford is not hurt right now, but it would be anyone's guess howlong that continues. What I don't understand is, he's made over 100m dollars is salary only, he's 30.
Why the heck continued when your knees are already ####ed up??
Maybe he's already come to terms with the fact that he'll need artificial knees by the time he's 40, so may as well completely wear out the ones he has?
