Okay...so when a coach is fired we tend to see/hear thinigs from players wishing him well.  I haven't heard a peep from anyone on the team yet in social media.  The most I've seen is this one...

Nothing wrong with swinging for the fences. The last thing you want to do is rehire a failed NFL coach. Failed at HC, OC or DC doesn't matter. Stay velar of recycled garbage. More times than not it is a recipe for mediocrity.  I'm sure the Jeff Fisher weasel is making calls but he's a known loser. Rarely will you ever get a Belicheck. Bring new blood, new ideas into the game.

Technically, the Browns had Belichick already.....

Sean McVay? As in coach of the 8-0 Rams? Why would he leave a team where he is having great success to come to the Browns? I have to assume I missed something in the news or whatever? Because this makes zero sense to me.

Why is Sean McVay the favorite? 

ANY list of potential head coach hires in October for the next season is basically a stupidity tax.  Whoever put out that list probably figured that idiots would recognize McVay and Belichick and think, oh no way would the Browns stand a shot at McVay or Belichick but I'll put $20 on Bill since the return would be $400,000 even if he stands no chance.  The people who put out the list know psychology of the moron betters because they know they'll never pay a dime on any of the sucker bets but you can be sure that a couple of hundred people will lay down something and they deserve to lose their money.

Williams is not even being considered?

He is/will be.   He's got the best shot right now since he's got a half a season and he only has to do better than Hue to get his name in the hat.  

I think he's got a good shot to keep the job if he handles things right.

He's got to keep Baker healthy, he has got to do a better job of clock management to compliment the defense, he simply has to do a better job than Hue of reducing penalties.  

He can do it, he's got a great opportunity.  No one should expect a winning record but if he keeps things close and doesn't lose the team and eaks out a few tough wins, yeah he can force Jimmy to let him keep the job heading into next year.

It's to drum up clickbait and conspiracy.  McVay is an Ohio Guy (born in Dayton and went to Miami University in Oxford, OH).  Every time the CLE HC spot opens up, the top names on the initial lists are composed of OH Guys.  Throw in the fact that prior to the combine earlier this year, Baker was spotted sitting next to McVay on the flight to Indy.  Speculation is there is a bit of a mentor/mentee relationship there after that trip.  Take it for what you will.

On a Southwest flight from L.A. to Indianapolis for the combine, Rams coach Sean McVay took his seat then looked up to see Mayfield standing there smiling, motioning towards the middle seat. They spent the next couple of hours talking ball.

“I don’t know how much I can say here without getting in trouble,” McVay says. “But he’s got a presence and a swag I respect, in terms of being a competitor. You talk about bringing guys with you and raising the level of play, he does that. Didn’t seem like any moment was too big for him. You can see he’s a likable guy, I bet his teammates love him, comfortable swag where it’s not a cockiness. It’s a confidence.”

After the first hour, there was a lull in the conversation. Then McVay turned to Mayfield: “So tell me about this Oklahoma offense.”

Having said that, it's a pipedream designed for clickbait.  New odds that came out last night have McVay moving down the list with the young gun coaches shooting to the top (Riley, Taylor):

I like Taylor (Rams QB Coach), Riley, and Toub.  Flip would be interesting, if he's willing to come back.  He had to suffer through another one of our darker times with a HC.

I'm not a big Williams as HC fan.  He's fine for the interim and finish out the year, but I think he's one of those guys who is better suited as a DC than a HC.  With that said, whoever is the new HC will want to bring in his coordinators.  If it's a young college type, then there is a chance Williams stays on as DC.  But those relationships need to be explored a bit prior to hiring/retaining just to make sure they can work together.

I don't want to step on any toes here, but since the very beginning, one particular aspect of these 'Team Threads' that's different from other threads in the SP, is the banter between homers, which takes all sorts of forms. I've been around for a great long time, and as long as I've been here, no one has stepped in to regulate homers being homers. I know and respect that it's your town, but in a sense, playing the heavy regarding some of the interplay going on between thread regulars who have been engaging in these type of dialogues for such a long time, with no admonition, seems like the town police going into someone's home, and telling them how to behave. Due to how long it's been going on, and how it's the nature of homers both on message boards and IRL (think sports bar conversations), to interact this way...I'm not saying you're being heavy handed, but it feels like a bit of a reach, where it's not as big of a deal as you might think. Sometimes, it might be OK to respond to those complaining by telling them that you appreciate their concerns, but as long as it's just harmless 'homers being homers'' that's part of the dynamic of these particular threads, and unless it starts going over the line, it's OK. Team Threads are unique in that sense, and I think a lighter hand in them , when it comes to how Thread regulars/homers are interacting, might not be the worst idea. Just my 2 cents.

I was going to comment something very similar to @nittanylion , but he/she nailed it.   Yea, there's a little back and forth between us (8 lol) occasionally, but it's ALWAYS football related.   With all the news and changes in CLE recently, it's understandable there are more "visitors" here now.  I agree all of us should have an open mind in these team threads.  Especially when they're 400+ pages long and growing.

IMO the team threads with their local takes are the best part of the pool.

It wasn't ever going to work here with Gordon.  And to spin it to a positive - moving him arguably expedited yesterday's events.  Can't imagine that offense would go south that quickly had he still been around.  Demaryius and Tate are good fits where they ended up and for reasonable prices, but neither of them would have much impact here.  We need someone that does their work down field.  That isn't either one of them.

There is misinformed people and information all around. I've seen many player threads where people say he (head coaches name) drafted the player or cut/traded the player, when it's The General Manager that is the only one that can do that. Sure the Head Coach can and does have some input on things like Gruden did when Reggie McKenzie asked him about trading Cooper for a 1st round pick. There is only one Belichick. He does buy the groceries.

I think it was the best option available to Dorsey.  Hue was gone, and Haley has consistently proven to be difficult to get along with - both w/ players and peers.  And while not perfect, the D is at least outplaying the O thus far.

RE: Williams.  I'm good with it and if he can manage to put out this dumpster fire and maybe win 4ish games, he will be considered.   I can get past the bounty gate.  I'm sure he wasn't the first, but probably the last DC to do something stupid.  I will say I heard a former Williams player interviewed, and he said he's a hell of a motivator - said his guys would "run through walls" for him, and then another one if asked.  

Let's see how we play next week.

I agree.  If he does have a winning record over the last half of the season, I see that more as being validation that this team had playmakers here who should be winning.  That this team is better than the record they started with in the first half.  That would make Dorsey's day, and set a very appealing picture to help draw top HC candidates to CLE for 2019.

it's extremely unlikely to happen, but if he pulled that off, i'd think you'd have to make him the head coach.  (maybe a two year prove it deal?)

i don't know where that line is though.  if he goes 6-2 i think that would still be pretty impressive.

I'm leaning on 3 more wins this season...and thats being optimistic I think.  If the defense can step up and they tailor the offense to Baker's skillset, then I might switch Falcons and the other Bengals game.  So 5 wins is the best case scenario for me - but realistically probably 2-3 wins before the season is out.

it's extremely unlikely to happen, but if he pulled that off, i'd think you'd have to make him the head coach.  (maybe a two year prove it deal?)

i don't know where that line is though.  if he goes 6-2 i think that would still be pretty impressive.

looking at that list i think they'll be lucky to win more than two more games.

Too much will change between now and Cincy to go beyond the next two games.  If Sunday goes well I like our chances against Atlanta though.

Very unlikely but I think if he goes .500 he would/should be offered the head coach position.

Pure gut feel but I think they want to make sure they get a full run at the coach they want. 

I think part of why Williams was chosen is there seems like very little chance he could get the real job. I think they don't want a situation where the interim guy gets hot and some momentum and then there's public pressure to make him the permanent coach. In other words, they don't want an Ed Orgeron at USC thing. When instead they'd rather pick their guy. But that's purely my guessing.
