"I think when you stop and look at it, it's truly, really about Baker Mayfield," Jackson said on ESPN's First Take. "I think they want to do everything they can to put him in the situation ... I mean, you got the first pick in the draft - who I think is going to be a franchise quarterback, who's going to be a sensational player - and he's not playing as well.
"So again, here is the perfect storm to move forward and move on."

(Rotoworld) Browns OC Freddie Kitchens is expected to use more spread packages with Baker Mayfield. Analysis: The Browns fired Hue Jackson and ex-OC Todd Haley for not building their offense to Mayfield's strengths. Cleveland plans to incorporate some of the Air Raid schemes Mayfield ran at Oklahoma with their move to Kitchens, who comes from the passy-heavy Bruce Arians tree. Mayfield's ROS outlook is slightly up after the Browns' coaching shuffle. There's high-scoring potential in Mayfield's Week 9 matchup with the Chiefs.

This is a step in the right direction, the fact that Haslam is willing to loosen the reigns for Dorsey and give him more responsibility. I am hoping this is a first step into what could be a new structure where the HC reports to the GM who reports to the Owner. A simple, yet stable structure that the Browns haven't had in forever. I'm sure Haslam will want to be part of the HC search and interview process, but glad to see Dorsey will have plenty of input into who will be brought in and how they will help nurture/build up Baker and this team.

So this is a joint decision between Jimmy and Dee - that is a really good sign for Dorsey and a potential leadership change in the organization structure. They are building trust in Dorsey, and he is making good on capitalizing on that trust. Only good things can happen from here.

Age and Scheme/Fit are my biggest concerns with Arians. I like what he's done with Manning and Palmer, and I have no doubt he'd be a solid HC in CLE. But I would like to see a HC that is young enough to grown with Baker over the next 10-15 years. Make them a solid tandem, like a Brady/Belicheck combo. I don't see Arians fitting that role in my mind. Maybe if he brought along a young OC to build up and hand over the reigns? Or flip it, have Arians as an OC for an up and coming HC as a mentor? Maybe...

I like Riley, just not sure he's ready yet. NFL coaches have been seeking him ala Chip Kelly a few years ago. Yet I don't see Riley as another Chip Kelly type of NFL coach.

I'm pretty sure McDaniels will not be in the conversation, based on Dorsey's friendship with Ballard and what McDaniels did to Indy last year during their HC search. I wouldn't be surprised if McDaniels is blackballed from HC searches for awhile.

It's crazy talk, but I like the meaning behind his story. If you're making a big time hiring decision, go big-time. Don't settle and take the safe route. Be willing to take the chance because you never know what will happen. I think Dorsey did that when he took Baker #1. I'd like him to do something similar with the HC. Take a chance and go for the overall best candidate - even if you don't think you have a chance at landing him. I have no idea who that is, but don't settle for the list of HC candidates the league produces each year. Go bigger!

Can’t remember the last win where I felt this good. Run William, run? All facets clicking today. Kitchens has been pretty much solid both games scheming and calling plays, quite refreshing after 2.5 yrs of garbage. Sure helps when your offensive tackles aren’t getting bulldozed every play though. A couple more wins like this and Dorsey’s job might get pretty easy as far as the HC search goes.

All of a sudden the Browns remaining schedule may not look so bad. Could a 4-2 record (Wins at Cincy twice, Balt. and Denver) down the stretch make them consider taking the interim title off Williams and keep Kitchens as OC?

Just to be clear, I meant Dorsey’s job getting easier regarding top candidates really wanting to come here, not keeping Williams as HC.
Seems like we could be headed towards another situation where we like our coordinators (I know some of you despise Williams, I don’t) but don’t want to, or can’t, force them upon a new HC.

unlikely, but imo, they would have to take a hard look at the current staff if they were to go 4-2. they could always flush the staff next year if they don’t like the options that are available this year.

Agreed. I think 4-2 opens the conversation of keeping them around, but nothing short of a Playoff appearance would seal the deal to keep them in place for 2019, IMO. I don't see it happening, but if it did, I don't see how you turn Williams and Kitchens the door.
It's amazing just how well this team has played the last two weeks. What's even more amazing is just how poorly Hue and Haley had this team playing the first half of the season. Two completely different teams in CLE. Great win and fun to watch!

#### draw for Williams but I guess you can spin as an audition. Rebuilding his career here would absolutely open some doors for him next year.
I know there isn't a lot of support for the theory in here but it's hard to watch the team we've seen the last two weeks and not think that Haley was intentionally ####### Hue to get a shot at the HC position. We've all said it, install a system that works to your players strengths. I can't guarantee that's whats happening now but it sure looks like they are calling plays that highlight the best of what the players they have can bring to the table. You're going to be hard pressed to get me to believe otherwise about Haley right now.

It isn't that complicated. Two conflicting agendas were more concerned with whatever it took to get or retain power instead of just using what they had to the best of their ability. Rid yourself of the cancer then put people in place that will do just that - do what's best for the team.

Based on what I've seen the last two weeks, I'm going to have to change my predictions a little for the ROS. If Freddie keeps tailoring his offense to the skillsets of his playmakers (Baker, Chubb), and Gregg plays smart/attacking defense without running players into the ground, and if there are no major injuries (I know, I know...too many "If"s)...
vs Chiefs - L (2-6-1)
vs Falcons -
at Bengals - W (4-6-1)
at Texans -
vs Panthers - L (5-7-1)
at Broncos - W (6-7-1)
vs Bengals -
at Ravens - W (8-7-1)
Dare I say our first winning record in the last decade?! With this style of play, I think this team could go 4-2/5-1 over the last 6 games. They are raw, young, and hungry enough to keep teams guessing. I think they sweep the Bengals and finish off the Ravens. The Bronocs aren't too special offensively and holes in the defense can be exploited. Houston makes me a little nervous, but they are beatable as well. If this team can stand up to an offense like ATL and hold them in check, why not Houston and Denver as well?
I don't think this extends Williams' foray as a HC into next year, but it does open the question enough for Dorsey to really consider it.

But as I wrote 2 weeks ago too much changes week-to-week in this league. We ride the waves based on what just happened. It was doom and gloom until Baker was forced in against the Jets. Then the P word started floating around. Then after a rough stretch we were wondering if we'd win any more games. Now after a win we're back to talking about a winning record again?
We may draw Cincy in a good spot. Let's start there - see what we can do on the road, a place we haven't won since China had a one-child policy.
