Cleveland Browns (1 Viewer)

We traded for Amari and signed the FA WR/KR from Chicago.  Its a deep WR class and its a given we'll get at least one in the draft.  The FA WR market has been tapped so I don't anticipate any other WR signings unless its in the 2nd wave and we land a bargain but the draft will 'likely' be the extent of any major additions.

We are nearly set at WR.  Not sure anyone with the Browns is sweating the FA WR market.
Agreed - a WR will be added in the top 50 and if a second one is not picked in the top 125 or so then I'd expect another acquisition post draft. Pencil in a mid round TE too.

Any comment on the rest of my post other than just WRs?

I'm not concerned about vets that are indirectly impacted by the QB. No matter who our QB is in 2022 there will be some level of uncertainty needing considered.
I think you are being a bit naive if you think this is a nothingburger for the remaining free agents.

I might be, but it's because I trust the current brain trust. If I do then I'd think those connected in league circles do too. It's an uncertain world to us on the outside because we don't know their plans, but those on the inside are sharing more info than what we're privy to.

It's okay, I think I may have lost the narrative you were getting at too. But it's probably not worth figuring out.
I just don't understand how the Browns should have handled this differently because not considering upgrading the QB position is a non-starter. I think the 'adult' leak was poor form though.

I dont think they should have handled it differently.  However, there is some fallout.  Fallout I'm sure they anticipated and felt was worth the chance of getting the QB they wanted.

Also, who knows if they said "adult" or not.  Total conjecture at this point where that came from

Someone within the front office did, which is a big no-no in Andrew Berry's world. We obviously don't know who it was, but I'm highly confident it was not him nor Stefanski. If it was anyone but Jimmy I'm sure they got a beating about it too. Right or wrong Berry's group doesn't manage via leaks.

Ok  :oldunsure:  We were more set last year heading into the year and it turned into a ####show pretty quick.

I see a lot of hardcore Browns fans in here trying to kid themselves we're going to have a good season, all is well and Baker is going to be Super Baker from 2 years ago. I don't see it, I think the season is pretty much #### right now, even if Baker comes back, he's going to play like #### assuming his reconstructed shoulder holds up and we're going to waste another year of Myles Garret and Nick Chubb.

It's old Brown's thinking, I know but I've seen this act too many times in the past. This isn't going to fix itself just because the FO says so. I'd love to see Baker come back motivated as hell with a chip on his completely healed shoulder but I don't see it. He thinks he's a lot better than he is and deserved better.

Pretty sure I read something from Mort that said "adult".  It wasn't a direct quote from the Browns, but rather Mort's take on the climate.

I think it may have been wise to have a phone call with Mayfield explaining that given his contract and injury situation they were going to explore all options.  It may not have made any difference to how Mayfield felt but at least he wouldn't have learned about it via the internet.

Maybe they did make the call and id so, never mind.

The "adult" comment was also totally unnecessary.

Browns are giving Deshaun Watson a new deal, per sources. The $184M over the first four years of this contract is a $48M raise over the $136M he was scheduled to make over the same four years on the previous contract - a $12M a-year raise in that span

Uh huh.

I wonder if Denzel Ward or any other major players are part of the deal.  This is shocking.

Baker is not part of the deal.

The Browns could have drafted Watson at pick 12 (they traded pick 12 in the 2017 draft to HOUSTON !)

Would been a lot cheaper to just draft him back in 2017.

Browns and Texans still are finalizing official trade compensation for Deshaun Watson, but it is expected to include three first-round picks, a third-round pick and potentially a fifth-round pick, league sources tell ESPN.

We wouldn't have Myles Garret or Ward though, lol

Game changer.

Love the Browns overall roster. I'd have picked them if I were a top tier QB this offseason.

#### OFF BAKER!!!! 👍 You'll get what you want now and can destroy the value of a new set of skill position players elsewhere.

We drafted Garrett #1 that same year so we would had him.  Ward we would not have we got that from Houston trade pick 4.

Sounds like we only gave up picks makes that trade a lot better if true.

Full trade terms: #Texans are trading QB Deshaun Watson and a 5th-round pick to the #Browns for THREE first-round picks, a 3rd-round pick and a 4th-round pick.

RObbery. We did it!!!!

or the browns could have drafted Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson the following year instead of Baker, but then last two weeks would not have been any fun. :football:

grats Browns fans, hope he earns his pay in a big way. watson cooper chubb looks like a winning combo to me.

Yesterday, BEFORE THE TRADE Mike Clay posted his grade chart of every team's positional grades.

>>>> 📊LINK to chart of every NFL team positional grades

We have a few low grades, at QB BEFORE THE TRADE we graded a 1.8 at the QB position.  Not sure that will move since Watson is facing a suspension and the Texan QB grade was .6 the fourth lowest in the league so I'm curious to see how much of an improved QB we'll 'eventually' get.

Former Browns GM Michael Lombardi has been a critic but explains the skills that Watson brings.

Lombardi: Browns now the AFC North's most complete team

..., the Browns collected talent and built a solid team -- even winning a playoff game. In spite of Mayfield’s limitations, they proved they could compete against any team. Now with Watson they have closed the gap.  In the Kevin Stefanski play-action scheme, Watson will be hard to defend.  He will be effective on the move throwing in either direction, and if they get behind in a game, he has the dropback passing skills to lead his team back -- something Mayfield lacked.  With a good offensive line and a great runner in Nick Chubb, the Browns’ talent around Watson will be the best of his career.  Remember, he never had a good offensive line the entire time with the Texans.

... to me, the Browns now have the most complete team

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a lot to unpack but one thing that Watson brings is elite franchise QB talent.

teams don’t have to pay game checks during suspension, correct?

I’d imagine they have to be able to fit the whole contract under the salary cap, but do they get to carry those amounts forward to the next year?
