Its nice - better than the original in this case? NFW - not close, not in the same universe.Puddle of Mudd did Gimme Shelter better than the Stones.
I wouldn't say better, but a fantastic performance. You can tell how impressed Page, Plant, JPJ - and President Obama - were.I am one of the biggest Zeppelin fans there is, and I don't know if Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven is better than the original, but it's pretty dang close.

The Wilson ladies have always channeled Led Zep amazingly. Probably mentioned well upthread, but I think where they really did outdo Led Zep was with Battle of Evermore.

No pressure gals 'n' guys, it's only Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones watching from upstairs.

Ann Wilson has one of the best voices ever. I like how she is able to knock hers down a bit deeper so she sounds more like Page.
Like this comment from the YouTube. Must have been a bit nerve-wracking!

As I was watching it, I could see JP was really enjoying it. He seemed to be mouthing notes as the guy was doing the solo. All three were pleasantly surprised when the screen when up to the large chorus. And John Bonham's son as their drummer - talk about knocking it out of the park. The fact that it's live makes it more impressive.I wouldn't say better, but a fantastic performance. Not better than the original, but as far as tributes go, the Foo FIghters doing Overture from 2112 by Rush at the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction was great, down to the costumes to match Rush from the 70s.I am one of the biggest Zeppelin fans there is, and I don't know if Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven is better than the original, but it's pretty dang close.

Greatest Love of All
I Will Always Love You
Saving all my love for you
All the man that I need
Just the lonely talking again
I'm every woman
And so on..
Waits is a good one to cover, songwriter supreme but can be outdone vocally.
No way. Maybe if you're going all the way with a magical voice, like Neko's Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis. Even still...Tom's is better.Waits is a good one to cover, songwriter supreme but can be outdone vocally.
C&C RULESCoheed and Cambria cover The Smiths - A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours
For those unaware, the youtube channel The A.V. Club is great for covers.
Probably because Waits sucks. I'd rather hear Chris Berman armpit fart the theme from the Banana Splits than listen to waits sing.
I have never understood the attraction of this song. A droning mopey score just destroys it, no matter how great the lyrics may be.Jeff Buck;ey - Hallelujah is the definitive version of the Leonard Cohen song

Not at all familiar with C&C, but Ive always liked this. Not better than the Smiths, but really nice. That AV Club series is great. If you haven't seen them, the Punch Brothers tunes are classic. Also liked Low's Africa and Owen Pallet's Game of Pricks off the top of my head.Coheed and Cambria cover The Smiths - A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours

Not bad, though I wonder where the keyboards come from?Rush fans will like this one even though it's pretty damn tough to come close to what they do.

Mountain - Theme For An Imaginary Western ups Jack Bruce's original (which is really good itself) to a new level.
I had never seen that version - Heart did a great job in a very cool performance. Not as good as the original but wow.I am one of the biggest Zeppelin fans there is, and I don't know if Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven is better than the original, but it's pretty dang close.
