Lets keep in mind that the protesters in NYC were in fact chanting for the death of cops
That type of idiocy was in fact limited to only one person at one school as far as I know, although I'm sure if you dug around you could find others. Just like I could find hundreds of callous, obnoxious twitter posts by right-wing college kids after every controversial incident. It's stupid to pretend it has any larger meaning. We all know what it is- a right wing blog digging around for stuff that they know will outrage their right wing readers to draw clicks. And it's not restricted to one side of the aisle- remember when everyone went in on that GOP aide who trashed the Obama girls on Facebook? She was stupid, sure, but what she did wasn't news. The people in that article are our future. It's worth discussing, especially since that type of idiocy isn't limited to a few people at one school.Good to see everyone focused on the important issues surrounding this tragedy- playing "gotcha" with a 19 year old girl's twitter feed and poorly edited protest chants in an attempt to pander to people who are already like-minded.
Ironic that he plays one on TVGawain said:Should Ice-T have been prosecuted for Cop Killer?General Tso said:You know, I've developed a coping mechanism to deal with you. I just look at your avatar and imagine all these answers coming from the cat. It works.Officer Pete Malloy said:No.General Tso said:I'd like to think as a country there's still enough commonality between us to draft basic standards outlining what is unacceptable. And by that I mean overt calls for "dead cops" by an angry mob marching through the streets. Can't we all agree that at a minimum something like this should be prosecuted?
Terrible human being, senseless tragedy. My bad.Back on topic, truly horrible act by a terrible cowardly puke. Hope hell is hot for him. Heart goes out to the families of the slain officers.Good to see everyone focused on the important issues surrounding this tragedy- playing "gotcha" with a 19 year old girl's twitter feed and poorly edited protest chants in an attempt to pander to people who are already like-minded.

I understand why people might debate how we deal with people with mental health issues, or gun control, or whether the tone of the protests somehow may have contributed to the tragedy. All that stuff I get. Worrying about what a couple college kids said on twitter, or a handful of other college kids asking for grade leniency related to the protests, or what exact phrase was said at a single protest 500 miles away? That I don't get.
So are examples of cops beating people, shooting unarmed citizens, etc. also "glimpses into the mindset of some of the players in this ####-show"?Glimpses into the mindset of some of the players in this ####-show.Terrible human being, senseless tragedy. My bad.Back on topic, truly horrible act by a terrible cowardly puke. What about Chris Dorner? In retrospect, his entire rampage was about this, it just came too early to be frequently associated. What if Dorner had happened last week?
I think you have the story mixed up. He believed he was fired from LAPD for reporting other officers using unnecessary force. He turned this into a mission to kill crooked cops. He wrote a manifesto saying police violence was worse than during the Rodney King era. What about Chris Dorner? In retrospect, his entire rampage was about this, it just came too early to be frequently associated. What if Dorner had happened last week?![]()
Wouldn't be a key talking point because he's black and it doesn't fit the "evil white cops" narrative the media is harping on right now.

Yeah, I am not supporting what he did at all. Just relaying the events of the story.Chris Dorner had a sick mind.
If Dorner had happened last week the usual suspects probably would have found a way to blame that on Al Sharpton too. What about Chris Dorner? In retrospect, his entire rampage was about this, it just came too early to be frequently associated. What if Dorner had happened last week?
justr to be clear, it was a local affiliate tv station and not Fox news. Stop being part of the lie-spreading problemWhere did Gawker say that Fox doctored the sound? All I saw was an article on the editing - which clipped the end of the chant off.Well now it makes sense what Pinky was talking about earlier. This is really atrocious, and needs to be investigated further. A "mistake" like this can't happen at a news station. That protester's safety was sacrificed and she was put in legitimate danger.http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/fox-wbff-edit-protest-kill-a-copA Fox affiliate in Baltimore aired a segment on Sunday showing footage from a "Justice For All" demonstration in Washington, D.C. in which it edited a chant to sound like protestors were shouting "kill a cop."
"At this rally in Washington, D.C. protestors chanted, 'we won't stop, we can't stop, so kill a cop,'" the WBFF broadcast said.
But the full footage, flagged by Gawker on Monday via C-SPAN, revealed that the chant was "we won't stop, we can't stop, 'til killer cops are in cell blocks."
The protest was attended by Rev. Al Sharpton. YouTube videos of the misinterpreted chant contain labels such as "Sharpton's 'Go Kill A Cop' March."
What's sad about this story is the lengths both the left and the right will go to to bend the truth to fit their agendas. First off, the Fox station HAD to know that this lady was not chanting "so kill a cop" even if it sounded like she was. All they had to do was view the full, original 2 minute clip from CSPAN to hear her say the entire chant, where in full context it is obvious she is saying "till killer cops... In cell blocks". The station has an obligation to explain exactly what occurred, and other news stations in the area should be aggressively covering this story as well. It borders on criminal conduct if they knew the full contents of the tape. And if they didn't know the full contents of the tape, then they are professionally delinquent at a minimum, and somebody needs to be fired.
On the flip side - and far less egregious though still noteworthy, the Liberal news that reported this goes out of it's way to say that the station "edited the chant" to make it sound like "so kill a cop". I listened to both the source tape and the news version and it doesn't sound edited at all. They didn't need to edit the tape. It sounds like she says "so kill a cop" in both versions. But what the news station did do from an editorial standpoint is not show the next line of the chant - "in cell blocks" - which would have helped clarify what she was saying. But rather than explain this, Gawker takes the intellectual low road and asserts that they doctored the sound. It's like going out of your way to frame a guilty man. So unnecessary.
The whole thing sucks. Everyone is full of #### these days. Sad.

Where was the outrage when NBC national news edited Zimmerman's 911 call to make it sound racist?
from some quarters, but many others tried to justify itThere was plenty of outrage on this forum.
Says who?So, uh, do we know who was involved in the "Dead Cops" chant?
This is really interesting, and horrible, but has anyone (outside of Baltimore I guess) here seen this clip before seeing it here now? It seems to me this clip is irrelevant to the overall discussion, unless it is being used to suggest that other pictures, videos or images which are relevant are somehow fake. But if that's the case you should address those images and videos. This one has zero to do with the national discussion or the discussion here.http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/fox-wbff-edit-protest-kill-a-copA Fox affiliate in Baltimore aired a segment on Sunday showing footage from a "Justice For All" demonstration in Washington, D.C. in which it edited a chant to sound like protestors were shouting "kill a cop."

That was supposedly a production error unless you honesty believe that NBC would intentionally air something that could be easily fact checked and found to be misleading by anyone who had access to the original tape (and it doesn't make sense that one of the top broadcast networks would attempt to do that and expect to get away with it).from some quarters, but many others tried to justify itThere was plenty of outrage on this forum.
outrage should have been 100% not a 50/50 split.
On the other hand, I don't think you'll find many defending this local Baltimore station's actions

Here's a crazy idea: maybe instead of dividing the country into two "sides" and assigning every single position taken by some people you consider to be on that side to every person you consider to be on that side, you let people speak for themselves?seems like it wasn't too long ago that your political soulmates were imagining death threats at sarah palin rallies...Good to see everyone focused on the important issues surrounding this tragedy- playing "gotcha" with a 19 year old girl's twitter feed and poorly edited protest chants in an attempt to pander to people who are already like-minded.

After listening to this. I can see where the mistake was made. Her style of speaking is a bit hard to understand. To me it sounds like she said "We won't stop, we can't stop, til kill a cop on cellblock"Annnd I am going to ask a question that will be scoffed at but who cares because the truth is the truth right?

I wasn't going to bring it up because I'm sure it's not received well. However while I agree with you there is also some confirmation bias at play there and also that kind of accusation needs to be checked out. It may have been an accident but even then it's bad (and even dangerous) journalism. After listening to this. I can see where the mistake was made. Her style of speaking is a bit hard to understand. The author of an article was. I assumed you were talking about the Gawker article that was linked in it.Actually it wasn't Gawker. The author of the article was TPM.
What's dishonest about their TPM's characterization is that they say in their article that the Fox affiliate edited the lady's chant to make it sound like she was saying "kill a cop". They didn't do that at all. Nobody monkeyed with the audio on the tape.
It's just another example of the news media being inaccurate. I don't know if TPM is as left-wing as Gawker is, so I'm not as inclined to attach a motivation behind the error. It begs the question, though - is there anyone out there who is reporting the news as it really is? Just give me the facts and left me make up my own mind.
I would also add that being a Fox affiliate is pretty meaningless as to Fox News the tv network. The local Fox station here in NO is not conservative at all and I don't see any political leaning content whatsoever with it, I'm guessing the affiliate in Baltimore is the same.Just to be clear, "Fox News" does not appear in my post, nor does my post attribute anything at all to anyone in particular. Also, is the affiliate a Fox affiliate? When you bring it up on the channel guide, does it say "Fox"? Is its website "foxbaltimore.com"? Because if it's not Fox, it should probably be sued.

You need to read up on the Baltimore protest story with the Fox affiliate and Tawanda Jones. The other stuff with the college girl is bull####. But this story is huge in my opinion. A news channel went out of its way to misrepresent what Tawanda was saying, broadcasting her as advocating the killing of cops, and then linking it to the killings in NY. They put her life in danger. And if you read up on Tawanda Jones, who she is, what she has been through, and the type of person she apparently is - it's even more sickening.Terrible human being, senseless tragedy.
If my choice is between a commie and a gang member. I vote gang member. Is that the call then, it's an older white male gang member?I thought he was implying he was with the Bloods?Perhaps he is a department store Santa who just got off work and also is a bullfighter in his spare time.Annnd I am going to ask a question that will be scoffed at but who cares because the truth is the truth right?

At ~1:28-1:34 there is a man in a red outfit and a red flag.
What does the red flag and his wearing of those colors signify? Anyone?
But what is the significance of singling out one person in a crowd of protestors? Is it that having one such person in the crowd wearing red and with a red flag makes it a Commie organized rally?
I was kind of wrapping the media irresponsibility in running that story in with the pointless discussion of that girl's twitter feed as unimportant distractions. It was a less than perfect pairing. You're right, the actual story of the media misrepresentation is a worthwhile story. You need to read up on the Baltimore protest story with the Fox affiliate and Tawanda Jones. More and more I am coming around to the opinion that a BIG problem in the country today is the news media. Not only are they framing stories to suit their own agendas, but now they appear to be fabricating stories that are putting people's lives at risk. In many ways this is a more insidious problem than the police issue.
Here's another one.If my choice is between a commie and a gang member. Since you mentioned fringe element, that goes with the territory of any group of protestors of any stripe. And speaking of fringe element, the crowd chant was only for about a minute, so was hardly representative of 99% of the those who participated in the protests (kinda like pointing to one Obama caricature sign at a Tea Party rally to prove that the participants were racist). No, note above, before you asked, I said "fringe element."Perhaps he is a department store Santa who just got off work and also is a bullfighter in his spare time.Annnd I am going to ask a question that will be scoffed at but who cares because the truth is the truth right?

I am just asking you - what does the flag symbolize? You think he's from the Baltimore Macy's? Ok. Just an honest straight up question.

I agree, I just think it's interesting. Actually in my view what you're saying is in defense of the main protestors who are largely for reform, and I agree. These people are not part of that.Since you mentioned fringe element, that goes with the territory of any group of protestors of any stripe. Which is what I said in my original post.
And they did edit the chant (by removing the end) and the end result was that it sounded more like what they reported it said - "kill a cop." They did that. It's definitely speculation to say that they did it on purpose, of course.
This really does imply that they doctored the audio, which we know they didn't do. They should have just described it as you and I both did. Or, at minimum, they could have said "in which it edited a video to make it sound like protesters were shouting kill a cop".A Fox affiliate in Baltimore aired a segment on Sunday showing footage from a "Justice For All" demonstration in Washington, D.C. in which it edited a chant to sound like protestors were shouting "kill a cop."
rude classless thugs said:That was supposedly a production error unless you honesty believe that NBC would intentionally air something that could be easily fact checked and found to be misleading by anyone who had access to the original tape (and it doesn't make sense that one of the top broadcast networks would attempt to do that and expect to get away with it).FlapJacks said:from some quarters, but many others tried to justify itrude classless thugs said:There was plenty of outrage on this forum.
outrage should have been 100% not a 50/50 split.
On the other hand, I don't think you'll find many defending this local Baltimore station's actions
Just a shot in the dark, but red is the color of protest in a lot of cultures. You'll also see a woman in a bright red hat in that shot - the French in particular wear red hats when they protest.SaintsInDome2006 said:Annnd I am going to ask a question that will be scoffed at but who cares because the truth is the truth right? Yes, we have 1. vote for a Buddy Ebsen looking Bloods gang member, 1 vote for a Baltimore Macy's Santa, 1 vote for a Cajun rabble-rouser, and 1 "?".Wait, do you really think he is in the bloods?

So, it was a Fox affiliate, "not" Fox. Really? I only commented on what kind of minds sit down and clip a video in order to misrepresent what was actually being said.Put me down for a Super Mario vote.Yes, we have 1. vote for a Buddy Ebsen looking Bloods gang member, 1 vote for a Baltimore Macy's Santa, 1 vote for a Cajun rabble-rouser, and 1 "?".Wait, do you really think he is in the bloods?
Uh, too skinny, old and slow IMO, not to mention appearing at a political march, but ok it's your dollar.Put me down for a Super Mario vote.Yes, we have 1. vote for a Buddy Ebsen looking Bloods gang member, 1 vote for a Baltimore Macy's Santa, 1 vote for a Cajun rabble-rouser, and 1 "?".Wait, do you really think he is in the bloods?
Well, yes - it's in Baltimore, but that's like saying the culture of New York City. As for Communism? Maybe. But the red flag has been a symbol of defiance for hundreds of years. It's why the Communists used it in the first place. It was a symbol of mutiny or a battle to the death for hundreds of years before Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto. It's symbolically meant that the bearer is willing to die for a cause for a very long time.
