Culpepper to Miami (1 Viewer)

Considering the Dolphins acquired A.J. Feeley :lmao: for a 2nd round pick, getting Culpep, injured or not, for similar compensation is a massive improvement.

Great news for Phin fans.

Any word if its a 2006 or 2007 pick?
I'm hearing from a few sources that it is indeed a 2007 2nd round pick which hopefully will be about 10 spots higher than this years pick.

Still better than nothing.Precludes the Vikings trading up, though.

Culpepper had been talking to the Dolphins for the past week, expressing his desire to be with the Dolphins along with showing a willingness to rework his contract to fit into the Dolphins salary cap.
This is fancy speak for "After 1 year I'm going to demand you restructure my contract."

Dan Marino played for the Dolphins when he set the record for most total yards in a season (5,077) in 1984. Now they have the guy that set the new single-season record (5,123), and all for a second round pick. If I was a Dolphins fan I'd be jumping for joy today. They may have landed one of the biggest steals in recent football history.

Culpepper doesn't have NEAR the psyche that Marino did. The first time the Dolphins question "why did we give up ANOTHER second rounder for this", he'll crumble like last years Girl Scout cookies.

I'm amazed at how down people are on CPepp.

The Dophins have had Fiedler & Frerotte for the past few years for crying out loud.

Marino vs C Pep? Wow.....Maybe AFTER Marino tore his achillies......and got old.
 C Pep is gigantic and mobile, that's part of his overall game. Marino, even in his early record setting days, was as mobile as a totem pole.

CPep hasn't been NEARLY as mobile the last two years after his first knee injury. And how mobile do you think he'll be now?

50x more mobile than Marino ever was...

This guy was more mobile than Marino.

I agree with those saying Culpepper is being sold *way* short. I'll chalk it up to fans detatching, because Daunte's stats are beyond debate, when he's been put in a position to succeed. Miami fans should be ecstatic.

You're taking me too literally. The very fact that someone is trying to compare the two is a joke. One of them is a hall of famer.....the other has had two good seasons.

I like the deal obviously as a Fin's homer.Saban has done wonders with this team in short time.I'm really starting to like the shape this team is heading in.

As a DolFan I would like to have seen if Schaub was worth it, but I'm EXTREMELY happy that we got Culpepper.

I hope he doesn't get too over anxious to prove himself and try to rush his rehab to be ready by the start of the season. Without any reps or practice in the offseason, he won't be truly ready until the 2007 season anyway.

You should be his PR man. Utterly historic.....Still, comparing him to Marino is a joke.

That says a lot. I was just telling some friends the exact same thing. This regime gets it just a tad more than the last :sarcasm: As a Dolphin fan I am thrilled. I don't think people realize that this is a guy who for his career has an over 90 QB rating. It is even better when you think about one of the major factors that the QB rating overlooks is scrambling ability. Culpy does fumble (BTW, I believe you wrote 81, but he has fumbled 34 times and lost 13 in his career according to ESPN) but even if that negates the running ability he has been above the 60% completion mark EVERY year of his career! I also liked passing on Brees. I see Chad Pennington there and that is too fragile for me for such a large investment. Saban has his act in gear! :hifive:

Great, great trade by the Vikings. Getting a 2nd rounder for Culpepper was a coup. Many people mistake Culpepper's fantasy stats with real stats. He is not a disciplined qb at all, he used to just heave the ball as far as he could and Moss would track it down. Bad signing by the Dolphins.

Yeah, because only a PR man would say that setting an NFL yardage record (as mentioned) and NFL passer rating record (110.9) in a 41 TD/11 INT season is utterly historic? I can't believe you'd quibble with that, it's beyond debate.

I assume you're referring to my post, but I didn't "compare" Marino to Culpepper. There's no comparison needed -- Culpepper broke the record for the most total yards in a season in the history of the NFL. Marino was second. Is it a joke to "compare" Jerry Rice to Isaac Bruce?

How about to "compare" Jamal Lewis to Eric Dickerson?

:goodposting: Let's not forget that Marino's two best seasons BY FAR, came in his 2nd and 4th years. He had exactly one more 30 TD season in his career.

This wasn't my battle, but YES in both cases. Jamal hasn't done nearly enough in his career and it is almost insulting comparing any WR to Rice

Are you in the will? I know the stats. Historic fine. How'd he follow it up? Tarnishes that "historic" season for me. Give me a player that can be good for years and years. Not "historic" one year and abysmal the next. And the 34 fumbles for 13 losses is only from his official rushing stats, not all the times he had it stripped while being sacked......or all the times he just dropped it.

I thought the number was low myself but I checked the rushing numbers for Collins and it included fumbles from sacks. Therefore, The ESPN numbers should be for all cases including sacks. Can someone confirm?

I geuss the only way people are going to be happy about a new QB is if it's Tom Brady. But than again he did play bad against Denver.

I'm a dolphin fan and I hear what your saying. I'm not as high on this trade as most fin-fans but i will tell ya this. Having Mike Tice coaching C-Pep all those years didnt help. I think under saban anc company they can get the most out of Culpepper and get him to were he makes sound football decesions. If Murlarky can make Stewert look good....I think he can do wonders for Culpepper. Time will tell.

I'm not sure what you want me to do. Rice and Bruce are 1-2 on the all-time single season receiving yards list; Rice only topped Bruce by 67 yards though. If you want to add a few hundred yards to Rice's total, I suppose that would work.

Eric Dickerson set the league record with 2,105 rushing yards; Jamal Lewis is second all time with 2,066 yards. It's not my fault that Lewis came within 39 yards of Dickerson's record; if you want to take a few hundred yards away from Lewis, I suppose that would work.

So basically your problem is my saying "utterly historic" instead of "historic"? My god, how argumentative. Hopefully you blew off some much needed steam on that anal observation. Rather than asking if I'm in his will maybe I should be asking if he peed in your cornflakes or dated your sister.

NFL trades are always contigent on a player passing a physical. Physicals are normally done after a trade is agreed, not before. This is perfectly normal. Nobody did anything stupid.
