**Dallas at Philadelphia**(-8.5, 48.5) 8:20 NFL Kickoff on NBC (9 Viewers)

[/QUOTE]
I guess this game should be a blowout on paper. But they don’t play games on paper.

I think it’s a given Philly is going to score a lot. The key match-up will be DAL Offense vs Philly D. The big question marks on Philly D are CB2, Safety2, and EDGE.

Dak is really good at making pre/snap reads and making adjustments at the line. Putting CD in the slot plays into the Eagles’ strengths, because Coop is one of the best nickels in the league already. I see a lot of CD and Pickens on the outside, so they can exploit Jackson and Sydney Brown.

The gamesmanship is how Vic decides to cover up their weaknesses. Does he travel Q with CD and bracket Pickens? And if he does bracket, do you use Brown (yuck) or Reed? Then you leave the other guy alone in deep center? Brown is just flat-out not good in coverage.

People say Dak is the ultimate ‘garbage time’ QB, but the 2nd half is when he shines because he’s seen all the tendencies of the D and makes adjustments to pick apart the weakness. There are going to be some big plays to Pickett, CD and Tolbert/Mingo. There might be enough to keep the game close.

I bet the Eagles cover the spread, and bet the over.

Philly 31
Dallas 20

Mingo is on IR.

It’s Flournoy and Turpin after Tolbert.

Flournoy is starting to shine and Turpin (fastest man in the NfL) is supposed to be used more this year in the slot.
Thanks! I worry about Turpin on ST, because he is a game breaker. Has he taken a lot of reps in the slot in TC?

They allegedly have plans to use him all over as a gadget guy. Carrying and catching the ball more in an attempt to give him the ball in space.

I’m not a huge fan of undersized anything (except pass rusher) and there’s always these reports of plans to do this or that which often never materializes but we’ll see.

First. I know it's Eagles - Cowboys, but please dial back the noise a good bit. Keep it 100% on football and not other posters. Moderators can't handle all the reported posts.

Second, this game is a mismatch. 8.5 for the line I'm seeing now and that doesn't seem nearly enough. Philadelphia roster is tons better than Dallas' roster.

Eagles should win this one easily based on talent.

I know it's a fun matchup but this seems like a terrible choice for an opening game.
And here I thought we were being nicer then usual to each other?!

I’m focused on the over myself. 47.5 seems low for this matchup.

Hard to say though - I’m not sure what to expect from Dallas D without Parsons.
nah, defenses are usually ahead of offenses. Look at this weeks college games, lots of defensive minded struggles between top teams.

Teams routinely won without gaudy passing numbers in the late 80s/Early 90s.

How old are you because now you’re wandering into territory that I don’t think you saw.

QBs didn’t throw for gaudy passing numbers because defenses were allowed to hit people.

Do you remember the two step rule? You used to be able to hit the QB AFTER he threw the ball. As hard as you wanted to. Prior to 1995 there was no two step rule and guys like Montana got CREAMED way after they threw the ball and it was rarely if ever called.

Not to mention the countless other rules that have neutered NFL defenses over the years .

I do not think it’s harder to win a SB in this era and I certainly don’t think it’s harder for quarterbacks to put up big numbers.
disagree to an extent. Not sure a one off Super Bowl is any harder, but It's much harder to keep a good team together and keep going to them

Jalen Hurts has a better career completion percentage than Troy Aikman with more TDs passing per game than Troy.

How about that!
and Troy Aikman has 3 Super Bowl rings !!!
Both were 26 when they won their first.

But the Cowboys dynasty is my favorite now b/c all the arguments against Hurts/Eagles, you can just go back 30 years and say the same thing about Troy/Cowboys (except the rushing stuff)

Great RB? Check
Best O Line in Footbal? Check
Great defense? Check
Anyone can play QB with THESE weapons! Check
Not the best passer/doesn't throw enough TDs. Check
Clutch when it matters most? Check
Litany of excuses made for success? Check
GM ahead of his time, for the time? Check

You’re being disingenuous, again. Completely different league entirely.
I'm here bro, care to flesh out your position and how I might be incorrect here?

I'd say its even HARDER to win in Today's NFL than Troy's with the run first style that was prevalent back when Troy Played.

And ya know Free Agency came and there went the Cowboys dynasty right after that happened.

So yeah, IMO its even harder in today's NFL.

Teams routinely won without gaudy passing numbers in the late 80s/Early 90s.
LOL
So much easier now ?
1- You could actually hit a QB when Aikman played.
2- WRs were routinely molested back then.
I'm confident Jalen Hurts is a throwback type of player that could succeed in the 90s.

I'm not confident Jerry Jones could put together a team like he did back then under current Free Agency rules, b/c well....he hasn't.

I stand by my comparison - both the criticisms of Troy and Hurts.

Yall give me guff over what I said and this dude is talking about:

Jerry having to build a team in the 1990s under today’s FA rules

Hurts transcends all of time

QB in the 80s and 90s didn’t throw for gaudy numbers -suggesting they weren’t good quarterbacks.
Not how I read it. It's hard to compare QBs between the decades though with the changes that have been made.

It's not really a question of being nice.

It's the endless back-and-forth slapfights clogging up the forum and taking away from actual discussion about the game.

I will ignore or be super nice to them but I will only be able to handle so many backhanded compliments at the end of every single post.

I will do my part.

You guys lost Sweat!?!?! That’s awesome news.

What other good players did you guys lose?

Cowboys

Offensive starters - most didn’’t play in the preseason.

Booker = first NFL game against two monsters in the middle.

Guyton (LT) missed almost all of preseason

Dak hasn’t played since November-ish?

Dak hasn’t played with Pickens yet.

Kenny Clark - gonna be watching him. GB fans all love him.

Sam Williams - Most people don’t know this guys name due to injury and suspensions but this guy is an absolute evil monster. He’s gotta play with discipline and not hit Hurts late (unless he knocks him out!)

For the Cowboys to win they need to shake the rust off fast and get off to a quick start. Don’t want to get too far behind.

How we feeling about Saquon on his first game back from his Super Bowl Season?

I’m confused. What would we be concerned about?

I googled and found this??

(Can’t use the quote feature on
phone atm ,this below is what I found)

Highlights of Barkley's injury history

Torn ACL (2020): While with the New York Giants, Barkley suffered a torn ACL in Week 2, ending his season.

Ankle injuries (multiple): He has suffered several ankle sprains over his career, including:
A high ankle sprain in 2019 that sidelined him for three games.
A low ankle sprain in 2021.
Another high ankle sprain in 2023.

Other injuries: Barkley has also dealt with a hamstring sprain (2018), a neck stinger (2022), and an elbow sprain (2023).

The 2024 season and recent updates
Despite his injury history, Barkley had a career-defining season in 2024 with the Eagles, rushing for over 2,000 yards and winning Offensive Player of the Year.

His health is currently a focus for the team, which plans to carefully manage his workload to avoid injury.

No its the best matchup of all time

Hasn’t the Superbowl winner traditionally played opening day as of late? I feel like this has been a thing for awhile.

Yes. It’s pretty typical for the champion to open at home.

I went to the Dallas/TB game in 2021. Good times.

How we feeling about Saquon on his first game back from his Super Bowl Season?
I think he is fresh and ready. He made a point of actually just resting A LOT this offseason over the constant endless grind of training.

As far as production goes I’d project 18-1900 total yards but maybe an uptick of TDs. Just feel the new OC is gonna want to put his own spin on things and less rushing attempts for Hurts overall is a good thing for the direction of the team.

I’m also projecting the Eagles to set a franchise records for points so there should be a lot of points to go around for everyone.

I'm of the belief that tonight's game might be a little closer than many are expecting.
Suer Bowl hangover could lead to a back door cover this evening if the line has gone up over 7-8 now

Plus many folks have the QB and WR1 of both teams going tonight, Saquon for sure, lot of interest for front line players on a lot of rosters
Want to see what the offense is going to look like in Dallas with a new head coach and expectations being on the lower side.

Dallas always draws a lot of fans so if the game is competitive, I think we will see a lot of folks tuning in.
Dallas getting blown out is not what i would predict is the highest % outcome although it could happen and set them up for a long season

Hoping the return of Dak energizes Dallas and we see a competitive game into the 2nd Half.

How many new players are the Eagles starting on defense? Hoping this thing turns into a shootout. That O/U suggests some points.

Dallas should be able to score points tonight. The Eagles CB2 and S are huge question marks and Dallas could exploit that with their receivers.

But they're going to have a hard time stopping Philly's O. I don't know what the O/U is but 50 points seems to be where I think the total could be.

Sneaky DFS play this week: Jahan Dotson.

WR3 for Philly, an afterthought who made some big plays last year in the playoffs and SB. Has had a really good camp this year, worked with Jalen in the off season. Probably draws coverage from Kaiir Elam.

EDIT: Go Birds!

47.5. Opened at 46.5.

I'll say Eagles win 28-20, in a game that is NOWHERE NEAR as close as the score. Dallas gets an entire quarter of garbage time, and makes it look like it was close. Like its 28-6 going into the 4th,

I think Philly has zero issues running the ball, both Barkley and Hurts, and Hurts should have plenty of time to throw some deep balls to AJ Brown who will see either nowhere near 100% Trevon Diggs, or Bills castoff Kahir Elam, as Bland likely follows Smith in the slot.

I think George Pickens has some success as he likely will draw new Eagle Adoree Jackson more than Lamb will. Lamb will still get his, but this will be one of his quieter games if he doesn't get a TD.

I think this is a Devonta game, more than an AJ game. Devonta usually gets the majority of throws vs zone D. AJ against man coverage.

I say this is a Jalen game. While you are correct, AJ will give Diggs a double move at some point for a big gain.

People expecting a Philly blowout may wanna pump their brakes a bit. Dak has a great rating when playing against his own division:

"In his career versus the Philadelphia Eagles, Dak Prescott has a 9-4 record and has thrown for 3,402 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions across 13 games, for an average passer rating of 100.6. He also has 193 career rushing yards against the Eagles."

I'm hoping for a score fest. Don't care who wins though I guess I'm rooting for DAL since Philly is a crap hole. :poop:

Dak's winning % as a starter for the Cowboys against the Eagles: 69.2 %
Hurts' winning % as a starter for the Eagles against the entire NFL: 69.7%

This is for any of those Cowboys takes I have heard over the years "Dak owns the Eagles" which would then mean Hurts "owns the NFL"

Is Dak Prescott in anyone's line up tonight?
Many who took him in the middle rounds typically paired him with another QB in the next round or two

Some might have a Prescott-Goff combo and trying to figure out which one to play
Dak- Purdy
Dak-Love
Dak-Murray

Lot of combos where Dak was taken first but not necessarily an auto-start every week

He's in my lineup. But then again, the only other QBs I have are Rattler and Danny Dimes. 🤢

Yeah he's in my lineup. I had a super awesome Dyno startup last year where I took Anthony Richardson and Matt Stafford as my QB.

Traded Demario/Richardson for Dak a week before Micah left town.

Feel good about it now.
