Dan Morgan to miss remainder of Panthers season

Also: Running back Williams out for Sunday's game

Carolina Panthers linebacker Dan Morgan will miss the remainder of the season, Coach John Fox said Wednesday.

Morgan has been out with a concussion since the season opener.

Fox said the decision came after Morgan met with team doctors and other specialists who advised them that it was not in his best interest to play this season.

Fox said Morgan still wants to play next season.

"He definitely wants to play again, when he's healthy," Fox said.

The Panthers have not placed Morgan on injured reserve, but are expected to this week so they can sign another player. Chris Draft will continue to start in Morgan's place at middle linebacker.

"Chris has done an outstanding job for us," Fox said. "He's a veteran guy who understands the defense.

Meanwhile, Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams will not play this Sunday against Baltimore. Williams sprained his right ankle last Sunday against Cleveland.

The Associated Press contributed.

I just heard about this on the radio here in charlotte. man, you guys are quick. Who might they be targeting as a player to sign to replace Morgan? Who's available?

I want to know how long DeAngelo is gonna be out...they were worried it might be a broken ankle...if it is a sprain there are a lot of different degrees. I sprained mine in my Senior Year of HS and I had to actually put it in a hard cast for 4 weeks...I may stretched some ligament in there too.

And I remember it was still awfully sore after...in a redraft league Williams may be cut material.

:rolleyes:when does Carolina finally cut this guy loose? what's he play, 8-9 games a year?
I think 8-9 games per year would be considered a tremendous success for him.I've never seen a guy get injured as often as he does. For the past 4 years it's been.....get hurt and out 4 games, comes back for a game or two and makes one decent play, but on that play he gets hurt and out 4 games, etc. It's ridiculous really.

Packer fans still kick Wolf for drafting Bubba Franks instead of Dan Morgan.

no idea why. Bubba plays at least.

Classic coach killer.

Remember the Super Bowl? 20+ tackles, ect.

GM and coach just keep thinking "If he stays healthy..."

There is very little available free agent wise this time of the year. Teams often sign players they've cut at camp's end. Keith Adams fits that bill for the Panthers, but he's with the Dolphins now and not a MLB anyway. Signed Rod Davis last week to provide some extra depth but he's not the answer. Also had Sam Cowart in for a look-see last week and passed -- but he may be signed when Morgan goes on IR.Draft will probably fill in for the rest of the season. Adam Seward was given a shot earlier in the year and was lost in all phases of the game.

Wasn't that the Reynolds draft?I think it was the year we took Reynolds even though Wolf had Morgan ranked as his #1 defensive player...ETA - yes it was. 2001.

This guy is finished. There's no way the Panthers can continue to pay an unreliably healthy player the kind of coin Morgan is making.

Hopefully this means Steve Smith won't be sprinting through the Bears secondary with his fourth TD in some playoff game.

Well, Sherman's trainwrecks DO all tend to blend together. Bob McGinn has written about how both Wolf and Sherman blame each other for the Reynolds pick. One thing is for sure - it was the beginning of the end. Morgan obviously has health issues, but he would have been a 100% improvment over Reynolds. (Obviously)
