TLEF picks

The Turkey Vulture

The Turkey Vulture has somehow acquired a false reputation for vomiting. Actually, the Turkey Vulture very seldom regurgitates. However, if it is cornered by a person who gets too close and is threatening, the vulture may roll over and play dead, or it may project vomit in a defensive manner and this has an offensive odor. Skunks are similar in this defensive maneuver.

Sandbagger has PM'ed his final pick to me:

The Vampire Finch

The Vampire Finch is perhaps the most unusual finch in the world, because true to its name - it feeds on blood!

The Vampire Finch is native to the Galapagos Islands, specifically Wolf Island, also known as Isla Wolf. The Vampire Finch is a member of a large group of finches known collectively as Ground Finches. Within the genus Geospiza, which is the scientific name for Ground Finches, there are 13 different species. The Vampire Finch is unique, however, in its dietary preference. The Vampire Finch feeds on the blood of other birds.

Fulfilling his sea creature requirement, The Rover selects:The Alligator GarAlligator Gar, or Gaspar Lepidosteidas, can grow up to 300 pounds. This fish is the largest in the gar family, and sometimes get to be over 300 pounds. They look a little like the Northern Pike, but with more teeth. Compared to the Tarpon, it is not a great fighting fish, but because of their size and ability to jump, they are always exciting to catch, but certainly dangerous. These fish have inflicted more injuries on our guides than any other fish. When the rivers are low, we can catch dozens on most any type of lure, but with high water, bait is usually the only thing that works well. The "In-Fisherman" publication says of the alligator gar... it jumps, bulldogs, thrashes and rolls, and will take your face off if it gets the chance.
It's not from Lake City is it?

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Feeds on the blood of other birds...hah!

Our owl eats Hawks and Eagles, that thing isn't even an appetizer.

Whatever beast it tries to feed on probably wouldn't even notice until the rest of the death match was over.

Name recognition is nice, but....

reeeeeeaaaaaaaach

Court Jester selects his final Sea Creature:

Basking Shark

This terrofying shark can grow to over 30 feet long. When on or near the surface the basking shark feeds by swimming with its mouth open at a rate of approximately 2 knots with the gill rakers erect. The gill rakers filter particulate matter from the water passing through the gill slits, the volume filtered is estimated to be equivalent to the contents of a 50m swimming pool per hour. It appears that the basking shark is an indiscriminate planktivore, its main food constituent being the dominant species within the layer through which the shark is feeding at any one time. No evidence is given as to the basking shark seeking out a particular plankton source.

I don't know, its the most bad-#### finch I ever heard of. I guess its just whether the polling public takes more notice of the "Vampire" or "Finch" part of its name.

If I didn't have to grab a bride with pick 8, I'd be looking for a Tyranasaurus Mouse.

Yeah, but see I am not going to be fighting humans......I am going to be swallowing "other animals".

Excellent point. If someone is awarded plankton, you'll be owning them.Edit to add: Wait a minute...are you insinuating that Russian Brides aren't actual humans?

I'm seeing some desperate picks of late.

It reminds me of youth, when an opponents will is crushed, and the little fellow just resorts to "tanking" -- as if to show he didn't try in the first place. :(

I attribute this syndrome to TEAM SHARKPOOL/SONNYLUBICK's fatal blow of the late-round sleeper, SEA LEOPARD!

It all but crushed the pride of the weaker teams.

I will now go drink vodka in celebration...and in an effort to find a Russian bride.

Double order of kung pao coming up

The animal draft has seen hide nor hair of PAO all day. I think that's rude. Somebody come up with a good ideaa for his punishment pick and I will find him a Russian Bride

Okay, the next animal is in the family of critters that caused a bit of a stir awhile ago, but the category wasn't closed (I checked.)

7.15 - The Mugger Crocodile - a.k.a Marsh Crocodile - Crocodylus palustris

"This is a medium to large species (4 to 5 m). The snout is the broadest of any member of the Crocodylus genus, giving the mugger a more alligatorine appearance...adults eat larger fish, amphibians, reptiles (mainly snakes and possibly turtles), birds and mammals (e.g monkeys). Large adults have been known to take deer and buffalo on occasions."

Photo - Marsh Crocodile

I figure it's a good value pick at this point in the draft, may even offset the size penalty of the Tasmanian Devil.

Edited to add link with more info on the Mugger:

Hey, no worries - I was just worried I dropped the ball. I'm on my third Negra Modelo, and these things can happen. Didn't wanna get stuck with a really tiny dog or something.

We may have located PAO's pick...

Now Disco Stu will do a Pao pick. Pick any animal Stu and I will drag up a Russian Bride for his last pick. Now remember, Stu, this is a PENALTY pick, be mean, pretend he broke the tape in your Saturday Night Fever 8-Track.

cos please update the first post at some point before I make Noodle's last pick. Once again I am going to be running solo here.
