Deadly Animal Draft (2 Viewers)

Captain Hucklebuck, by proxy, selects:

The Bronze Whaler Shark

It is implicated in more attacks on humans than anything but the Bull Shark (according to this page)

Also, the guy writing the page says he "once shot one three time with a shotgun in the head and it still would not die, taking a fresh bait when one was lowered back into the water."

Now that's taking one for the team.

I wonder how many my Basking Shark could swallow in one gulp??500?1000??
Your basking shark sucks in FINGERMONKEY!!. FINGERMONKEY!! grabs a gill on the way by uses it to avoid going down the throat and then starts ripping gills out by the handful! Your basking shark is losing oxygen intake now, everythings getting dark, uh-oh passed out plankton eater, easy cleanup for the pilot whale. Did I mention that FINGERMONKEY!! can hold his breath like forever almost? Its scary. And I saw someone talking about thier bride using sign language to communicate with thier ape, big deal! FINGERMONKEY!! Don't need no stinking sign language he'll be our on the field general leaving destruction in his wake. Lubov will follow him anywhere and will do his bidding, your brides don't want to meet this "widow" .
Forgot the alias

It looks like the only thing we are now waiting on is a Russian Bride for Kovax. I did not find one in my PMs. Please post it here. Interviews are over, let the losers fly back to Russia and tell us your keeper.

Okay, I just got home from work (In Los Angeles, for those wondering where I bartend) and have seen all of these posts.
As a fellow local, and always searching for the perfect drink (or better yet, the free one), curious as to where you tend bar?

With its last pick in the 2003 DAD draft, Team Kovax selects:

Alexandra

What most dont know about Alexandra is that she is well versed in Jungle Warfare. Her adept skills allow her to formitabbly match against any competitor in this draft. Your like standing there and BAM, Alexandra pops out of the jungle with a NINJA kick and you are looking for your fangs. As she grabs your snake and hits you with it, your out ... for the count ... dead!

Nice team. Shark double team was a nice touch. The Cassowary is prolly the most vicious bird on the board...

Team sandbagger:

Owner: sandbagger

1.12 Giant Squid

Giant squid are carnivorous mollusks that have a long, torpedo shaped body. At one end, surrounding a beak-like mouth strong enough to cut through steel cable, are five pairs of arms. One pair, thinner and longer than the rest, are used to catch food and bring it to the mouth. Just past the mouth are the eyes. Eyes that are the largest in the animal kingdom, getting as big as eighteen inches across.

All squid move through the ocean using a jet of water forced out of the body by a siphon. They eat fish, other squid, and perhaps some argue, in the case of the largest species, whales. The legend of the Kraken, a many armed sea monster that could pull a whole ship under, may have been based on the giant squid.

2.05 Komodo Dragon

When dealing with smaller prey, it may lunge straight for the neck. However, the basic strategy is simple: try to smash the quarry to the ground and tear it to pieces. Strong muscles driving powerful claws accomplish some of this, but the Komodo's teeth are its most dangerous weapon. They are large, curved and serrated and tear flesh with the efficiency of a plow parting soil.

Its tooth serrations harbor bits of meat from the Komodo's last meal, either fresh prey or carrion. This protein-rich residue supports large numbers of bacteria, which will kill prey if its teeth and claws don't.

Komodo Dragons can run up to speeds of 20 kilometers per hour. There's no escaping this beast.

3.12 Tamara

At 55 years of age, Tamara isn't the most spry of Russian brides, but that's what I get for trying to pick the Fossa out of turn. Odds on Tamara having the finger money break her hip: 3:2

4.05 Fossa

The fossa was as sleek and feral a mammal as I'd ever seen. Though it's a member of the viverids, the civet and mongoose family, it looked superficially like a panther, with a long, streamlined body covered in brown fur lightening to chestnut underneath, strong legs, and a muscular head with long whiskers and those cat-like eyes. It was clearly designed to kill, with powerful jaws filled with canines as formidable looking as any guard dog's, and long claws on both front and hind feet.

"Its feet are reversed," Dollar said, holding up a hind paw, on which the biggest toes lay on the outside rather than on the inside as ours do.

"That's so it can grip trees," he added, turning the paw to face inward toward the body. Fossa can run up trees and snatch lemurs before they knew what hit them. Indeed, the fossa, as its species name suggests, has a fearsome reputation, and Malagasy kill it with impunity whenever they get the chance.

5.12 Pygmy Hippo

The pygmy hippopotamus is about half the size of the common hippo. They weigh around 350 - 650 lbs and stand at about 75 - 100 cm (2.5 - 3.3 ft) at the shoulder with a body length of 15 - 28 cm (6 - 11.2"). The thick hide of the pygmy hippo is greenish black on top with grayish sides and grayish white to yellowish green under parts. Just like the common hippo they are basically hairless and excrete an oily red substance from their pores to prevent sunburn. But unlike its bigger counterpart the pygmy hippo has a rounder head and its eyes are located on the side of its head instead of on top.

While not as big as the overall first pick, the Pygmy Hippo is the poor man's Hippo and great value being drafted in the late 5th round.

6.05 African Warthog

The warthog's huge tusks are unusual: The upper tusks emerge from the sides of the snout to form a semicircle; the lower tusks at the base of the uppers are worn to a sharp cutting edge. The lethal tusks are used in fights between males and when being attacked by predators. The sharp tusks can inflict fatal wounds.

Quoting one scientist:

"Warthogs are to many people, just ugly African pigs with grotesque heads. To me the warthog represents far more than a dust coloured beast with warts and huge tusks, The warthog is in reality a fine example of courage. No matter the situation the warthog displays an awesome amount of courage and determination when confronted with some of the most dangerous animals on the planet. Warthogs seem to not know how to give up! Man can learn much from the Warthog"
The African Warthog is my team captain with his courageous persona.6.05 Stingray

Unlike other rays, which spend most of their time buried on the sandy seafloor, the pelagic stingray spends its time in open waters. They are distinguished by their diamond-shaped body with a rounded snout and streamlined eyes that don’t protrude out from their body. The pelagic stingray is dark purplish above and purplish to gray underneath. This coloration makes the ray harder for predators to see from above, as the ray’s dark back blends in with dark waters below, making the ray almost “disappear” from view.

Furthermore, stingrays feed on jellyfish, a useful weapon against teams with those animals.

7.12 Vampire Finch

The Vampire Finch is perhaps the most unusual finch in the world, because true to its name - it feeds on blood!

The Vampire Finch is native to the Galapagos Islands, specifically Wolf Island, also known as Isla Wolf. The Vampire Finch is a member of a large group of finches known collectively as Ground Finches. Within the genus Geospiza, which is the scientific name for Ground Finches, there are 13 different species. The Vampire Finch is unique, however, in its dietary preference. The Vampire Finch feeds on the blood of other birds.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a team of diverse talent and raw power. The size and power of the giant squid is unmatched by even the largest of the whales while the stingray provides quick striking power underwater. This combination will rule the seas.

My land animals are composed of the highly deadly Komodo Dragon, using its teeth, claws, and mouth-filled bacteria to kill opponenets. The Fossa is the pound for pound deadliest animal on the planet. With the ability to climb trees and strike from anywhere, the Fossa is a Puma on crack. The Pygmy Hippo gives me a smaller version of the overall 1st round pick while the African Warthog is a fierce, albeit small competitor.

Finally, the Vampire Finch feeds on other birds' blood, sucking the life out of it's opponents in the sky.

the rover does not match up well at all with my team. He has a mongoose, but what good will that do him since I have no snakes? His sea creatures are a couple of alligators, no match for the giant squid alone, let alone a stingray as well. I think I'll give the stingray this match off as he won't be needed. On land we match up decently as he has the smallest of the elephants and a wolf and a jaguar. Are these three a match for the komodo dragon, the fossa, the pygmy hippo and the warthog? It will be a close matchup, but at the end of the day my strength in numbers will prevail as the mongoose will be an early snack for the fossa.

He has the vampire bat, I have the vampire finch. A push.

Tamara is a 320 lb. beast that Anna will have a hard time beating. Once Tamara has finished off Anna, she'll be squaring off with the Asian elephant for sure.

None of my animals have been handicapped in any way so they are all at full strength ready to take down any challenge before them.

These battles are all about matchups, and rover just doesn't.

I can't believe the Leopard and Cougar went undrafted. Give me a fierce 190 pound predator over a cow, dog, anteater, or pig anyday.

Mountain lions and cougars would have been nice additions to anyone's lineup. I'm also surprised that the girafe category wasn't hit earlier/harder. Not to vicious, but pretty dang big.

Amen to that. It was killing me to not write something about a mountain lion but for the good of the order....

The top undrafted free agents according to Mrs. Lindsay's are probably the Turtle ("There are over 260 million kinds of turtles. A turtle is a reptile and is cold-blooded with scaly skin, and lay eggs. Turtles are the oldest group of reptiles. They have been on the earth for over 200 million years. In the winter turtles hibernate. All turtles have shells and many can live to be over 100 years old.") and the Giant Panda ("The giant panda is endangered and there are not very many left in the wild. They live in bamboo forests in China. They eat bamboo stems, leaves and bamboo shoots. They need to eat about 30 pounds of leaves and stems a day. They can eat for 12 hours in one day!")

Nice job by all. I am a little amazed at the value still out there on the waiver wire. First the true pound for pound terror of the animal kingdom remains available in the shrew. Granted his diminuitive size is a handicap, but if this beast of the animal kingdom could teach his ferocity to his team mates it would be game over. If this bad boy were 1/2 the size of the fossa it could take out the blue whale. Compared to the shrew the temperment of the wolverine is down right docile. The Aligator snapper. Some have "death from above" arial attacks, some have mastered the seas, but no one sought to include armour in their battle lineups? This nasty bass turd would make Gen. Patton proud. Fully battle ready covered in armour and with a death grip bite, come on, surely he could have found his way onto a roster. Elk. 800lbs of horn and testosterone. I've seen these bad boys hump minivans and nearly destroy them in the process. I picture this bad boy mounting the elephant from the rear. When the Pacyderm turns its head to see whats going on it will expose it's juglar vein to the death grip bite of the alligator snapper. Result, dead elephant, happy elk, well feed snapper.Cougar/puma. Natural predator of the elk (the elephant humper)Great Horned Owl. That's right, not any of your lesser owls. Talons, beak, size, and we all know how smart these puppies are.Mastiff, all slobber and teeth .Oksana Baiul, O.K. technically she is not available as a russian bride but she should be. The chick has "Killer" legs, and is death incarnate when drunk and behind the wheel of a Mercedes 500.

Hey guys - very very bad news.

I've just learned that Fast Eddie's Mom passed away yesterday morning - that's why he hasn't been around.

I'm sure I can speak for all of us that we send condolences and prayers to Eddie's family.

In the meantime, I'm officially taking over the team.

3.14 Australian Eastern Brown Snake

4.03 The Harpy Eagle

5.14 Giant Clam

6.03 Wild Boar

7.14 Spanish Bull

8.03 Olga os6390

I sorta liked the African Wild Dogs. Not the biggest animal, but very agile and fast, both in short distances and over sveral miles.

The prefered prey are medium sized Antelopes but African hunting dogs are also able to kill larger Antelopes and even Zebras.

I also thought the skunk would be a nice pick, but they are susceptible to hawks, owls etc.

The 'cat' category was closed.

Lion, Jaguar, Cheetah, Panther, Tigers, Mongooses, and Elephant categories are CLOSED
If the intent was to close out all big cats that should have been specified IMO. But the lynx was allowed? The Puma, Lynx, and Ocelot are all members of the Felinae Subfamily, while all those listed as closed are members of the Pantherinae Subfamily (with the exception of the cheetah which was a surprise addition to the list considering it wasn't drafted and has its own subfamily). Not that it matters...just seems weird.

Well that was why I asked, but we all know how that turned out. Water under the bridge now. I've since gone back and found where he said to stop PMing, so that was my mistake. Would've liked that ocelot though... it's a good thing I didn't just take it or I would have ended up with a dragonfly or something. I've got confidence in those anteater claws. He has been known to kill a jag.

Not that it matters...just seems weird.
yeah - seems weird. On the other hand, fourteen deadly animals and two Russian brides battling to the death in an imaginary cage of half water and half land... now that I can accept.

Blah, blah, blah, you could have had a team and wouldn't take it becasue it has a RABID cat. Quit yer yammerin'.

LOL. If I had taken it that team would be even more handicapped as it sounds like my next two picks wouldn't have been accepted. Teaming the tiny housecat with a Yorkie and a starfish would have been entertaining though.
