you likely know, but you have rds 49 and 50 left if you wish to make them.Steve Tasker said:I took Post-Nothing somewhere in the middle of the draft. Someone else got Celebration Rock earlier on.
So, I was familiar with the big song from this one before listening. Overall, it's a very good album of electro/psych pop-rock, not unlike a lot of other bands I listen to - the poppier ones leaning towards MGMT and the more rocking ones maybe towards a Dear Rouge or something.Børns - DopamineOut cruising around this afternoon. I'll listen to whatever album someone posts first (that was drafted).

My favourite songs were 10,000 Emerald Pools, Dopamine, Holy Ghost and Electric Love.
The one negative for me and what keeps me liking it and not loving it is his voice. I imagine this could be a selling point for other people but an album full of falsetto wore me out. A feel like a woman's voice or a deeper/more direct man's voice over the same songs I would really love.
...yeah, that live album is as hallmark as any selected, Jim's the biggest personality of any of 'em on the stage.I almost took this for my Rd 49 pick, but felt I needed the soothing peace of the violin and piano duo I took. I can visit the other Doors islands. Waiting for the Sun was probably their most experimental album. My favorite tune on the album is Love Street. I also considered Absolutely Live if only to hear Jim's wild scream on Backdoor Man. That could have been the first thing anyone heard as they step foot on the island, and they could decide from there if they wanted to stay.

Hell with it..... I'll do it if there's room. I stopped at 45 albums, though - don't know if that mattersSecret skeptic? count me in -
I had 12 female artists, not counting The New Pornographers who are 50/50 or bands like Arcade Fire/Rural Alberta Advantage who have one female singer. Probably others had more than me.ETA: probably lead the league in 70s (18) and female artists (9) and least 21st C albums (tres). and classical...
I looked at both of our islands and we are so far opposites, this is the closest I could see possibly hitting a meeting of the minds other than like an obvious U2 or Bowie or such.Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kidok - free til dinner. gimme sumn to review

no - i want your best. and i'd prefer a studio album for concept. i'll still check Elbow and do it, but gimme the hardest time your island has right offI looked at both of our islands and we are so far opposites, this is the closest I could see possibly hitting a meeting of the minds other than like an obvious U2 or Bowie or such.
Nice, I’ll queue up yours for an afternoon walk.I'll roll a d50 and take one of your albums for a noontime walk to Alamo Square
ETA: I'll do one of pik's picks after that
Have you listened to the first albums by Franz Ferdinand (2004, self titled) or The Strokes (2001, Is This It? ). That's what I'd throw at someone trying to get the early 00s rock that I love and doesn't make your island.no - i want your best. and i'd prefer a studio album for concept. i'll still check Elbow and do it, but gimme the hardest time your island has right offI looked at both of our islands and we are so far opposites, this is the closest I could see possibly hitting a meeting of the minds other than like an obvious U2 or Bowie or such.
i've listened to FF all the way thru, but it's been a while. close to my favorite of the 21st C bands. i've tried Strokes a dozen times and quit. which to you want me to do?Have you listened to the first albums by Franz Ferdinand (2004, self titled) or Strokes (2001, Is This It? ). If you know those grab a new one. Courtney Barnett? The New Pornographers? I'll do one of yours shortly too. heard a good bit of both (tho Barnett only w Kurt Vile). i'm not deeply familiar with any of em, i'm old and flush all memory as soon as i determine i dont need it, so it'll be a pretty fresh listen on all of em. pick one and tell me if you want top-o-my-head impression or double-listen analysis. i love #### like this - i only never do it cuz nobody gives me a reason anymoreIf you know those grab a new one. MAC_32 said:4 or 5 should be good - I like what you did with my island. Randomly assign me an island, based on my interests have that island suggest a handful or so and I pick 2 or 3 of them. Then I pick 2 others on my own.
I think this is about what I was going to try, but I will be honest - some islands I could go 20+, and some maybe a handful, so I really want to keep it loose and open to other people's schedules and music tastes.Buffaloes said:Yeah I'm thinking I will choose 1 or more, have the islander give me at least one "blind" suggestion just based on what the islander is feeling and maybe a suggestion based on my feedback and then see if kp will give a random 50-sided die roll for a totally rando album. Kind of want some immersion on the island I'm assigned to.
i dont really know what's goin on. i said "shoot", NV shot, after my review tomorrow i'll fall in line or be odd man out for Secret Skeptic if there's not an even #Everybody starting this without me??!!![]()
So, it looks like the only other poster to say they are in today was @wikkidpissah?
That will bring us to 21.
I will put out the bat signal to @Nigel Tufnel since he was waffling a little and reiterate that there is no minimum albums required and no elaborate writeups required. Just listening to a few from an island for something to do...
I am still in. That was just a side thing @Eephus and I did. We even got in before you posted the pairings.Everybody starting this without me??!!![]()

enjoying following along ...OK, back up and running, on with the list!
Desert Island Take VI
Pick 19: B-52's, Cosmic Thing (1989). From comments earlier today, looks like I wasn't the only one who thought this needed to be drafted. I thought the extra musicians on this version of the band gave them a more rounded out sound without losing their punk edges.
Pick 20: Pandora's Box, Original Sin (1989). Yep, more Steinman. This band idea apparently came from an idea of his that he wanted multiple lead female singers, all of whom sounded like, in his words, "horny angels". Since this never got a lot of notice, a lot of the songs got re-used in later Steinman projects.
Pick 21: Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, In Step (1989). Got my ZZ, now I need some Stevie Ray to finish up my Texas Boogie set. Stevie Ray was one of those artists that was really just getting started when he was taken from us - when will the great ones learn to stay off of things that fly?
I didn’t expect we’d be paired in parallel, such as I listen to yours and you listen to mine, but that it would be round robin, for which we don’t need even numbers. KP?i dont really know what's goin on. i said "shoot", NV shot, after my review tomorrow i'll fall in line or be odd man out for Secret Skeptic if there's not an even #
Correct - I am just going to shuffle numbers and assign my list of names another person. # of participants or even/odd matters not.I didn’t expect we’d be paired in parallel, such as I listen to yours and you listen to mine, but that it would be round robin, for which we don’t need even numbers. KP?
one may almost always successfully assume i'm in on any opportunity to improve y'all w my opinionsOk, now I am confused - are we pairing up, or do I shuffle the names? Wikkid in or out?
Lol. Fair enough.one may almost always successfully assume i'm in on any opportunity to improve y'all w my opinions
Shuffle names. Wikkid is in.Ok, now I am confused - are we pairing up, or do I shuffle the names? Wikkid in or out?
Alright, basically a triple shuffle. A little overkill, but I have my list from the post above of the 21 participants. I am going to do the number sequence randomizer and click it 9 times - at 7 I will write the names of the reviewer, and at 9 I will stop and line them up with the island they are visiting.7, 9
In post #8 it looks like Uruk is saying he is in.Ok, now I am confused - are we pairing up, or do I shuffle the names? Wikkid in or out?
wow, good call... surprised Jett went undrafted.Pick 23: Joan Jett, The Hit List (1990). Wait, what? Nobody drafted ANY Joan Jett?? Hunh? She had multiple albums that should have found homes somewhere. I'm particularly fond of this lesser known album, where she does covers of other people's hits and adds her own sharp, rockabilly style to them.
