I've been trimming doom & gloom from my library. Not overtly. It's probably just a product of getting older. It's still apparent in my library and it's quite evident in several of my selections so far, but I've been shedding some of its fat over the years and don't recall replacing it. i.e. I never thought about why I removed Down In A Hole and Would? from my library I don't remember how long ago. But then this exercise made me realize that I did it because I preferred the somber unplugged version more.
Makes sense.   Those unplugged versions are excellent

How did the protest go?  I see you are alive, which is good.
It was a noontime one at City Hall.  The mayor and Jamie Foxx spoke so I guess it was the ***official rally.  Decent crowd, everybody in masks, nice sunny day.

It felt good to do something other than mope around the house.  My daughter liked to march in protests when she was a toddler in a backpack so it's good that hasn't changed.

There's a bigger protest planned here on Wednesday night.

30.34 the Go-Go's Beauty and the Beat 1981

Getting this record and Duran Duran Rio so late makes me very happy.

Our Lips Are Sealed

We Got the Beat

80's party!!
Damn was on my radar like 10 rounds ago and totally forgot about it. Lust to Love is my jam.
There's a musical comedy featuring the music of the Go-Go's that ran here over the holidays.  We were going to go but somebody got sick.  It was written by the same guy who wrote Avenue Q which I thought was hilarious.

33.23 - Live at the Olympia - R.E.M. (recorded 2007, released 2009)

Artist drafted at 8.2 by @simey (Reckoning) and 8.8 by @Dr. Octopus (Life's Rich Pageant)

R.E.M. was four years short of the end of the line when they performed a five show residency in Dublin.  The setlists spanned their career and included a lot of deeper cuts.  I love it for that because they were never about the hits.  The other thing that strikes me is how comfortable they (mostly Stipe) seem in their skin.  They play fast and loose and rock more than they have in years.

Circus Envy

Wolves, Lower
I'm pretty sure I have this CD still.

32.34 C'est Chic 1978

I was crushed when I saw Chic on the doc.  But then, I realized it wasn't this.  I hope this is still available.  Lotta love for me here.

Songs GOTTA be.

I Want Your Love

Le Freak

33.25 - Richard Buckner - Since (1998)

Mining both my love for the bleak and my late 90s Chicago Years again.  Buckner has another record that's equal to or better than this, but this one sounds darker and a little more lush, for a better fit on my Island of Sorrow.  I feel like his voice and phrasing would fall into a distinct love/hate dichotomy, and I'm squaring in "love."

Songs:

Ariel Ramirez  Sorry, unlike for The Verve, this time I'm going to choose that one that was in that ubiquitous ad in the 90s.  It haunts me, in a good way.

Goner w/ Souvenir  The structure of this song is so odd and compelling.

Oof. My next pick and I was here an hour ago. Pfff. If you saw the vid of me, my sis, and kid on an empty Lake Tahoe, just a few minutes before that we were anchored in Emerald Bay, and I had it on some Chinese buds you recommended long ago. Definitely fast and loose, but Stipe sounds fantastic. Nice tracks too. #####le

Today was the biggest crowd I've been a part of since March 13.  It actually felt good although it would have been a lot less comfortable if more crowded or indoors.

Demonstrations always involve a lot of people watching because (a) you can't see anything and (b) you're always looking for good signs or people you know.  My new sport is imagining people's faces under their masks.

Still thinking about the other album, but I will grab my 32nd rounder and what I think is a steal since I would consider it one of the best albums of the 90s.   Didn't take it earlier because I always talk about it and took it in the last draft, but I guess none of y'all want it, so....

32.40:  NINE INCH NAILS - THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL (1994)

Songs:   NOT Closer.

Let the record reflect that Chinese buds refers to chi-fi headphones and not cannabis.

I had to think about it, and then assumed it was headphones. I still have some kind bud seeds from about 25 years ago in an old messenger bag in the closet. I wonder if they'd grow if I planted them. I'd already have tried it by now if it were legal here. There is a large piece of property...

I feel like drafting rap here is like drafting a kicker. I have a couple more sleeper albums that *might* be on a drafter's radar that aren't rap and there are a bunch of serviceable rap albums but they are mostly interchangeable and not in high demand. Do I go with the old school gangster rap? The newer mumbling stuff that I have to look up the lyrics? 80s sampling phase? There are so many choices. I am going to start with nostalgia I suppose. This is the first album that I know if my mom found out I had I would get physically beaten (along with NWA). It was well hidden and only came out late at night - or at friend's houses who had oblivious (the best kind) parents.

Definitely NSFW - or family friendly Spotify mixes - so no need add it to the Spotify list.

Round 33) Eazy-Duz-It - Eazy-E (1988)

Boyz-N-The-Hood

Eazy-Duz-It

Curfews provide legal cause for indiscriminate arrests
The curfew is to try and stop the building burning, busting out of windows, and looting. When you have hundreds of people downtown, and then some start causing mayhem, innocent ones get caught in the crossfire. They are shutting it down at dusk for better control.

Detroit has 8pm curfew starting tonight too.

29.11... Plants and Animals- Parc Avenue

Good Friend

New Kind of Love

I grew up in Southern Marin County... in and amongst a bunch of rock people and hippies. was classmates with their kids. the grateful dead were (eta: literally) omnipresent and as a newwave/post-punk kid...blech. these guys are about as close as I can get to that sound... and it works because I remind myself they're canadian and coeval with arcade fire.

No curfew on my island

My Spotify likes to freeze up whenever I click a link to a song someone drafted, and it doesn't go to youtube, but it does go to Spotify.

My new sport is imagining people's faces under their masks.
Too many concerts and too much practice with firearms has damaged my 58 year old ears. Using a tone generator, I still hear the lowest bass thumps, but I lose the high end around 11khz. Constant tinnitus too.

Boat rental guy in a mask mumbled something with traffic whizzing by and I said sorry I read lips. I look at people's mouths not their eyes when talking. But the hearing isn't that bad, just weak. So three minutes off the dock he video called me to say I was going the wrong way. he put his lips on cam and made me laugh. He was watching the wrong boat. With cam on I showed him I was going the right way. Anyway, that's some good customer service right there.

Dang, for some reason I had mentally crossed this off my list because I thought it was already taken. Alas.
